Dr. Thomas Gill confronts columnist in locker room

I thought it was hilarious when Felger referred to him an DR. Kevorkian last night.

The media isn't questioning the infection, they're questioning the decision to have surgery vs letting it heal itself. Ask the Gronks how they feel about that decision. Oh, and the decision to clear him to play only to have him rebreak it again on the first play (yeah yeah, I know it was in a "different area" of the wrist. whatever). Then there is the Fenenae/NFLPA situation and his Red Sox tenure.

What do you expect the media to do? Do you think their job to gush about how great everything is all the time?

What did the Gronks say? I've never seen a quote. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't but I tend to look for quotes and names when I read my news. I don't swallow every piece of crap they try and serve to me.

Gronk chose to have the surgery. Gronk chose to play vs Houston.

Thats the point. They arent Doctors but they are questioning the treatment. I want another Doctor like andrews to say this. Iam not a doctor just like the media but they have mikes and papers to write so they can write it to the world.

Why shouldn't they question the treatment?

Good. Dr. Thomas Gill does not work for the Patriots. He works for Mass General and has a reputation to maintain and he has every right to defend himself from attention seeking hack jobs.

I'm sure Gronk was aware of the risks of surgery. You can have surgery without signing a consent form which indicates you are aware of the risks. Gronk probably did come back too early. Like all young men his age he probably believed "that won't happen to me". The whole thing sucks and there is plenty of blame to go around.

Why shouldn't they question the treatment?

Probably because every expert out there said this was the common treatment and that setting the bone in this way promoted correct bone healing. We're not in the 1950s anymore.

Besides, the initial surgery did not have ANY infection problems.

Ummm.....

During his second surgery on the injured arm, an infection was discovered.

Patriots TE Gronkowski to Delay Surgery on Injured Forearm

Gronkowski has been battling an infection discovered during the process of his second surgery to repair the second break of his left forearm.

If it was discovered during the second surgery, that means the problem came from the first surgery, unless you're going with some "instantaneous occurence" theory...

I have not read the article, so I do not know if it was fair to Dr. Gill, and I am aware that many in the media are self promoters with little concern for the truth, however, poking your finger in the chest of someone is not civilized conduct, particularly on the part of a medical doctor.

Many doctors are less than humble. If someone did that to me I'd grab his finger and bite it.

well, Norm...I agree...you are right...BUT...I suggest you NOT be around if I ever get the chance to publicly confront Codger Badsmell...I won't be poking A finger....offering five finger sandwiches would be more like it....:violent:

Has there been any corroboration of this story, or is it only being "reported" by Lou Merloni? If this happened in the locker room, as Lou stated, it would be hard to imagine that it went unnoticed by someone else.

I have long had some discomfort with the way stories are made public through talk radio. It doesn't seem that people like Merloni are always operating under the same principles of journalism that applies to print journalist, so in general I find myself quite sceptical when I hear about this kind of thing.

With that said, it definitely raises a possibility in my mind about the Gronk story reported by BSPN yesterday. I wondered how it is that Ed Werder, who to my knowledge has never before been the first to break a story about the Pats, would be the one to break this one about player grumbling. If the Merloni story is correct, then Gill comes across to me as a loose cannon, and that in turn would lead me to wonder whether he was the source for the Werder story.

I guess we will never return to the days when a majority of the reporting was about actual football. Too much competition among the media and individual self-interest at stake. It is beyond tiresome.
