Gronk likely to play vs Saints

Peyton winning a SB

With Wes catching the winning pass
-More injuries for us (Talib, DMC, CJ, TB, etc)
-The Jets winning the division

As bad as things are, this season has convinced me that it can ALWAYS get worse.

I really don't understand this. Its been months since the infection was cleared. If it isn't healed by now whats the chance that it will ever heal this year? Is this really a case of a problem or a player being overly cautious? I mean he is fine enough to train and practice but not to play? Seems odd to me.

to win the whole thing requires some luck, something this team has none of this year with so many injuries to key players, gronk, ridley, vereen, wilfork, possibly kelly

Big difference is that he's not absorbing the hard blows in practice that he would in a game situation.

Some people posted on the board last year about having plates put into their arms for the same reason.

It's not like this is some radical form of surgery.

The infection is what screwed everything up.

The plate caused the rebreak in the divisional game.

I'd imagine if he is doing any sort of lifting, which I am sure he is, then there is quite a bit of strain and stress being put on that arm. Also if he is doing any sort of blocking drills I am sure its the same. The only thing I would imagine being different is if he took a helmet hit specifically to that area, but again I am sure he'll be wearing some sort of protection during the game. If it really is that fragile then when will it ever heal? Bones don't take that long to repair.

Speaking of Kelly.... is absent from practice today as well....

Arm and bicep exercises don't typically put a whole lot of strain on the forearm. From what I've seen from the videos and clips posted, he hasn't participated in blocking drills and has otherwise been limited. Your last two sentences and Schefter's report are what really worry me and the reason why I said he might go on IR.

Wholly crap this story is getting so blown out of proportion.

Player Breaks arm. Team and Player want Player back for playoffs. Dr provides a way for this to happen. A flukey second break occurs and due to more surgery an infection occurs.

I fail to see where anyone has done anything wrong up to this point? Sux that rushing him back may now wind up career threatening but its not like anything new or crazy occured hear. The only thing that would make me feel diferent would be if it were to come out that the team and Dr hid the risks of the procedure from Gronk and no such report has come out yet so IMO this is NFL business as usual.

Now fast forward: I cant blame Gronk for not wanting to rely on Gil anymore but that doesnt change the past.

I guess more time to heal the arm would be beneficial but at some point isnt it what it is. A player who will now have to play a career with a weaker bone? At some point dont you just have to take the leap of faith and play otherwise time to retire. Now I am not saying that point has been crossed but short of IRing him and giving him a full year how much is another a few weeks or a month or two really going to do?

The time to poop or get off the pot is nearing.

The plate caused the rebreak in the divisional game.

The plate didn't "cause" it. Falling awkwardly with all his weight on his arm caused it. Before this break happened, there were unaffiliated doctors who talked about the plate surgery, and they said the bone would heal faster and stronger, and that beyond this, the only risk was the very slight and rare possibility of a break at the screw of the plate.

And then that's what happened.

But even that is not the reason for Gronk's troubles.

The reason for those troubles is an infection after the second surgery, and this infection lead to possibly compromising the bone at that area.

But this is no more than hindsight.

What I heard before this was that the surgery would make the first break stronger, that a break at the screw would be a very rare risk, and even if it happened, it would not be a permanent setback.

Then came the infection.

If you're going to worry about infection, you should never have ANY surgeries whatsoever.

I think people should adjust their expectations regarding Gronk, I fully expect news of forearm complications and for him to be placed on season ending IR.

You'd all have happier lives if you did likewise

Schefter on sportscenter just said he still could be cleared within the next 24 hours and this could be just a way for "team gronk" to have power over when he plays and not "team pats"

If he was active and just played one snap, all this Dr gill conversation wouldnt have happened. More time goes, more theories will be concocted and everyone will play doctor.

We have a Dr jupiter now in the house.

“And the questions continue to go on. He’s out there at practice, he’s been cleared to practice, just hasn’t been cleared to play in a game. And that may be Team Gronkowski’s way of exerting some control over the situation so that Team Patriots doesn’t have the final say over whether Rob Gronkowski is out there Sunday or in any other game.”

I dont believe a line of this. its schefter's own interpretation with "may be"

Thank you for your expert opinion.
You act like people on a message board reading conflicted unconfirmed reports about what may have happened cannot be experts about the health of a player, whether he is committed to getting back on the field, or just being a wimp, and what the proper analysis of all the medical decisions that occured up until today cannot be experts.
Wow, you set the bar awfully high.

*By ESPNBoston.com | October 11, 2013 10:25:35 AM PDTWith the news this morning that*Rob Gronkowski*looksless likely to play Sunday than was anticipated*earlier in the week, “SportsCenter” checked in with ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter to get his take on what’s going on between the Patriots and their star tight end.*“In this particular case, basically there are two teams we’re talking about: We’re talking about the Patriots’ team and we’re talking about Team Gronkowski, which is his family, his advisors, all the people on his side. And Team Gronkowski right now is being very careful in its dealings with team Patriots.*“And Team Gronkowski wants Rob Gronkowski to be cleared not only by Dr. Andrews, but by Dr. Jupiter, an independent doctor in the Boston area [who performed the fourth and final surgery on his forearm]. Neither one of those doctors has yet to clear Rob Gronkowski to date.*“That could happen at some point here in the next 24 hours, but I’m told this morning there is less optimism today that Rob Gronkowski will be able to play on Sunday against the Saints than there was earlier in the week.*“And the questions continue to go on. He’s out there at practice, he’s been cleared to practice, just hasn’t been cleared to play in a game. And that may be Team Gronkowski’s way of exerting some control over the situation so that Team Patriots doesn’t have the final say over whether Rob Gronkowski is out there Sunday or in any other game.”Tags:New England PatriotsRob Gronkowski

As I said about Armstead, until I actually see Gronkowski out on the field and contributing to their offense, he's a non-factor to me.

Not going to expand any more energy worrying about injured/non-contributing players. Like Brady said, if he plays, he plays. If he doesn't, he doesn't.

Yeah I don't understand what he means by that, they already have control and final say on when Gronk plays.
