No Tavon Wilson tomorrow.

Two players on this week's injury report have been downgraded to out: Rob Gronkowski & Tavon Wilson.

Reiss adds this:

With Tavon Wilson out, now explains, from this view, promotion of LB Ja'Gared Davis promotion. Special teams help.

It appears the Patriots are more concerned with stopping the Bengals ST unit from scoring than the Bengals O. Truth be known, it's probably a wise mentality when Andy Dalton is your starter.

I have to admit, I just don't get it.

Mike Reiss @MikeReiss
Promotions of Kanorris Davis (safety) & Ja'Gared Davis (linebacker) seem to be mostly tied to special-teams considerations.

Dane Fletcher, Chris White, Steve Beauharnais and Ja'Gared Davis seems like over kill in my opinion.

So in terms of players basically only on the 53 man roster for special team coverage and kickoff units we currently have:

Slater
Ebner
Washington
White
Beauharnais
K. Davis
J. Davis
White

Add to them players who barely see the field like:

T. Wilson
Bequette
Fletcher

Seems like a lot of redundancy and wasted roster spots in my opinion.

To be fair, some of the players on your list are there because some of the others aren't active.

If Slater were healthy, at least one of the Davises would still be on the PS.

DT's
Perhaps Belichick will consider acquiring a veteran NT. In the meantime, we only need 3 DT's on the active roster, plus Jones as a sub DT. Therefore there was no reason to put Forston or AJ Francis on the 53.

Special Teamers
With Slater, Cole and Wilson all out, help was needed. Both Davis and Davis are special teamers.

Are you counting differently from me? Who are your 3+Jones?

I count four

1) 2) Vellano and Kelly.

3)Chris Jones as the rotational Dt and backup.

4) Chandler Jones as sub package DT (with Buchanan taking over a DE spot)

Are there sub-packages that can get Spikes on the field to help out with stopping the run while not leaving the Pats open to getting burned by TEs?

Are you sure? Last week we saw a pretty decent kickoff return, plus a punt that bounced into the endzone without any Patriot nearby to down it, plus Edelman didn't attempt any returns.

Nothing that unusual.

What the heck has Tavon Wilson done to cause himself to be injured?

Its looking like ...possibly more ...of a 3-4 defense.....as I would have thought they would have brought another DT up....with the loss of wilfork

They brought up jones a week early. We have gone with basically 3 DTs all season. To play a 34 we would need to put all 3 of the 43 DTs on the field, so I don't see that.

He has played a lot of special teams. About 20 snaps a game, I believe, which is about what a rotational guy on offense or defense would play.
I would imagine 20 snaps on special teams leaves you more likely to sustain an injury than 20 on regular O or D.

Spikes actually does a good job as a blitzer so its not unreasonable to have him in on passing downs and mostly blitz. Not sure that solves your concern though.

I think you are overstating.
First you list White twice,
Second both Davis' are only on the roster because Slater and Cole are not and Wilson is inactive.
Additionally Beauharnais is not a special teamer but a backup LB who is usually inactive. Bequette doesn't really apply, because he is a backup DE/sub DT who plays about as much as the 4th DE would without injuries. Fletcher is the same thing, a backup LB who is deep enough on the depth chart to be needed, but not yet used due to health.

Yeah, you are missing your top three special teamers. Of course there is going to be redundancy this week. Does anyone believe that either Davis would be promoted if those guys were all healthy and active?

I could be wrong, but I believe the patriots have never won in cincinnati playing 6 or more undrafted free agents. History is not on our side...
They have whenever they have rushed more than 30 times...

Just thinking his run stopping skills would be helpful today, but he perhaps isn't the best in coverage.

Yeah I'd like to see us use Spikes a little more to stop the run, now that Wilfork is done
