Dez Bryant vs Devin McCourty

Would Bryant even be able to mentally process this offense? The guy has a lot of talent but I'm not sure he'd be a good fit here.

Still McCourty for me.

There have been reports of teams game planning to avoid him - how often do you hear of teams trying to avoid a SAFETY? I can only think of 2 others from recent history.

That hit on Julio Jones that should have been an incompletion shows he can hit too.

On top of that - who really, honestly thinks a moron like Dez Bryant would be able to learn the Patriots offense? It would be like Ochocinco with much more of a headache for the team - doesn't he have 2 babysitters employed by the Cowboys just to make sure he doesn't do anything else dumb?

IIRC, the league told the Cowboys they can't do that without counting those minders' salaries against the salary cap.

Bryant also has to be managed off the field like Hannibal Lector on holiday. McCourty seems able to exist without a nanny. Of course, after Hernandez, we can't say that 100% about anybody, but point in McCourty's favor so far.

More like Lindsay Lohan.

3 years later...who would you rather have on our team? I remember screaming at the TV when we passed up on Dez in the 2010 NFL draft. I knew he would be a star.

Can you imagine if we had drafted Dez along with Gronk and Hernandez That would be one of the greatest offensive drafts of all time

As valuable as McCourty is to the Patriots, Dez is a rare breed in the NFL. He is a star, and would instantly make the patriots a much better team.

Dez is a stupid DIVA dunce who could never learn the Patriot Offense. BB would not have put up with his antics. For what the Cowboys paid for him, they don't have much to show for it..

Well, since we have made the playoffs all three years and Dallas hasn't, I guess I'd go with McCourty...

1. The first three years, McCourty has by far been the better player.
2. McCourty is a top 5 safety and top 10 CB
3. Bryant is a top 10 WR
4. Top end WR is more important than top end DB
5. McCourty is a team leader and high IQ guy
6. Dez is a punk and imbecile

Madden-wise, it's a no brainer. But since this is real life, it's a lot harder. I can't really fault anyone either way, but just as a pure player Dez is clearly the guy to have going forward. WR is just so much more valuable than any DB. McCourty's intangibles (and Dez's lack there of) are the only thing that make this a 50-50 IMO.

Dez on the Pats would make Ocho Cincos stay here appear to be the Resurrection of Randy Moss.

I'm not sure why this thread was bumped when nothing's really changed:

Bryant's still the better player.
McCourty's still the better fit.
Cunningham's still the problem pick in that draft.

Dez Bryant is the most overrated player in the NFL, he had 1 good season last year and people are saying hes better than AJ Green lmfao.

Cunningham's still the problem pick in that draft.

And how is Cunningham relevant?

Because if you've got a gripe about that draft, Cunningham is where you should be looking, not McCourty.

I seriously hope no Patsfan is debating that, Brady throwing to Dez White would be unreal.

Assuming he hadn't been cut two years ago because he is a basket case. :confused2:

Demaryius Thomas would have been the better Patriots WR pick in that draft, not Dez Bryant.

Maybe they would take Dez Bryant's talent with Devin McCourty's work ethic/personality. There must be a reason why they haven't taken a WR in the 1st round, they don't value WRs with high draft picks. BB has only taken one WR in the 1st round of the draft, and that was when he was in Cleveland.

Demaryius Thomas would have been the better Patriots WR pick in that draft, not Dez Bryant.

Not sure you're saying that you'd pick Thomas ahead of McCourty, but no question he'd be a great fit here, far ahead of Bryant. Couldn't agree more.

Bump. Dez Bryant is tearing it up once again this season five touchdowns already And he's made some ridiculous catches. Devon McCourty is a good player but dez is a game changer. I stand by my original assessment I would rather have Bryant easily

4-0 go pats!

Yeah

Dez Bryant is such a "game changer" and yet............the Cowboys never win.

The stupid things some people post.

Even if you discount Bryant's lost first 2 years (and you seem to have done that). Even if you discount McCourty's well deserved probowl in his first season. The fact he had a better and more productive season than the oft injured and mentally missing Bryant in his 2nd, and supposedly down year. And even if you discount that while Bryant had some great INDIVIDUAL numbers last season, McCourty's contributions to the D had more of an impact to wins and losses for the Pats , than Bryant's gawdy numbers did for the sub 500 Cowboys. Even if you discount the fact that Bryant, while physically talented, is a complete mismatch to this offense.

Finally even if you discount all of that, you are left with the fact that good WR's are the easiest position to replace. We are seeing it before our eyes. Even in this short sample Kembrall Thomkins is far more productive that Dez Bryant was his first year, and this kid was an UDFA.

There is a reason why BB has never drafted a WR in the first round. When are people around here going to start to get that. This was a bad thread in September, its an even worse one now.

Whatever nonsense you are trying to push here kid, has been debunked completely over the course of this long thread. For you to come back and try again, only shows you have about the same common sense as Dez Bryant has shown throughout his career

Well, since we have made the playoffs all three years and Dallas hasn't, I guess I'd go with McCourty...

Any by that logic, you'd probably take Jerod Mayo or Rob Ninkovich over Demarcus Ware, right?
