$5mm a year or so - good deal for a 16-game starter at DE.

Good for him. The guy deserves it. He has worked his butt off and just makes plays. Good move by the front office. :rocker:

Great deal!!!!!
What's going through Spikes head right now? NE extends a very effective, multidimensional three down DE for only $5 mill/yr.

Guess the numbers!!
Not having a clue...I'll guess 3 years $18.243 mill.....$9 mill guaranteed

Im thinking more like 3 for 12

Ninkovich is an unsung hero for the Patriots and he's always doing whatever the team asks him to do - whether it be LB, LS, or pass rusher. He never gives less than 110%.

Great news this morning. Now, it's time to go out and get that W.

I don't really think he's an unsung hero anymore, he's always credited anymore during broadcasts, in fact, EVERY broadcaster out there refers to him as an unsung hero. ...how unsung is he in reality when everyone agrees?

Always found that funny.

Really happy for him though, he's not flashy, but he's always for 5+ sacks a year and is great against the run. Seems to be a lot smarter than he is talented, which in our defense, isn't bad. Bill loves those guys who can use their brains to beat someone.

LOL a blast from the past...maybe I'm just getting old but I thought that this would be a better TD song than the one they have now. LOL

Can't beat kool & gang

a very good news, well done !

molto bene

Love it. Good job BB.

@MikeReiss: Filed to ESPN and @ESPNBoston: Patriots and starting DE Rob Ninkovich have agreed to contract extension through 2016, per source.

It’s an excellent deal for the Patriots in my opinion; Ninkovich is a 3 down player who plays the entire way generally so 3 years for a max value of $15 million is great value in my opinion.

Cool! Well deserved plus he's BB's boy. Anyone who can be a "Jets Killer" by BB Gets a No Brainer Extension.

Great signing. Ninkovich will only be 32 at the time this deal expires, so the chances of him falling off a cliff seems pretty low. He is a durable, reliable player for this team and has a knack for making big plays in key moments. Hard not to like it!

There are a number of very good inside linebackers entering free agency after this season, so Spikes is not going to be highly sought after in my opinion.

In no particular order:

London Fletcher
Perry Riley
Donald Butler
Jason Worilds
Dan Connor
Jonathan Vilma
Patrick Angerer
Wesley Woodyard

Spikes may be better than some or even all players listed but he also has some injury concerns and character issues that will limit his appeal on the open market.

It's a three year extension, he was to be a UFA after this year. Nothing weird about that.

Great news, I think Talib is our only significant UFA left for this coming offseason now.

Ahem. Edelman.

Ahem. Edelman.
And Wendell, especially considering that Connolly is a very enticing cut this coming offseason (saves $3M against the cap, already have a guy pushing him for his job in Cannon).

I remember him constantly being called a JAG when he first started.

People were calling him a JAG this offseason.

I consider Ninkovich a good litmus test of someone's ability to rate a good football player - the type of player the 2001-2004 team had in spades. People who call him JAG are the sorts who use spreadsheets to evaluate a player like it's ******* baseball.

And Wendell, especially considering that Connolly is a very enticing restructure/extension this coming offseason (saves $3M against the cap, already have a guy pushing him for his job in Cannon).

Even if he's not a starter, he's a darn good backup, and I don't want to see him playing anywhere else.

Great move by the Pats. Can't wait to see him playing in the years to come.

And deservedly so. The man has been a beast this season. They have used him in almost every defensive position in the front seven. He's smart, durable, and CLUTCH. They made the right decision in re-signing him.
