Love it. Good job BB.

@MikeReiss: Filed to ESPN and @ESPNBoston: Patriots and starting DE Rob Ninkovich have agreed to contract extension through 2016, per source.

Good News! Solid player all around.

Excellent, we're beginning to extend the guys we need to in the future...only 2016 is interesting though...that means what? Four years counting this one right?

I remember him constantly being called a JAG when he first started. He's come a long way and I'm glad he's being rewarded for it.

Mike Vrabel 2.0, right?

But seriously, good for Nink. Solid player. Great guy. Well deserved

Smart move. If he plays the entire year like he did the first two games, someone was going to overpay him in free agency.

only 2016 is interesting though
It's a three year extension, he was to be a UFA after this year. Nothing weird about that.

Great news, I think Talib is our only significant UFA left for this coming offseason now.

great news........Talib and Devin next up please.

Good news indeed! He's one of the most well-rounded and reliable players on the defense, and a major (under-reported) locker room leader. Not to mention an inspiration to every guy who's been cut three times in his first 3 seasons in the NFL.

Reiss called it this AM!!

Quick-hit thoughts around NFL, New England Patriots - ESPN Boston

3. When it comes to dependability and reliability, receiver Wes Welker and running back Danny Woodhead rated highly among Patriots players in recent years, and it seems fair to say the team misses that right now. So looking ahead, I’d put defensive end Rob Ninkovich in a similar category. Ninkovich is in the final year of his contract and working to extend his pact now -- using some of the team’s excess salary-cap space -- would be a smart move if the sides can find some middle ground. As NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said on the Sept. 12 Patriots-Jets broadcast, Ninkovich might be overlooked by some, but the more you watch him play the more it’s easy to appreciate what he does.

The Pats typically do three year deals over four. Besides, Ninkovich will be 32 in 2016 and 33 by the 2017 season (in fact he will be 33 if he plays in the Super Bowl in the 2016 season). If he is still playing at a high level then, he will still come cheap.

Ninkovich plays a tough, smart game - the type of player Belichick loves.

He might not be the prototypical athlete fans love at DE, but he is never out of position, plays with the right technique, and tends to avoid major injury. Hits hard enough to generate turnovers. Good for the Patriots.

Guess the numbers!!
Not having a clue...I'll guess 3 years $18.243 mill.....$9 mill guaranteed

Nice.

Next priority should be Talib because they still have McCourty signed through 2014, so there is more time to get a deal hammered out.

Very Nice!!!

Very nice.

Next up: Devin McCourty, because Talib/his agent will probably want to wait until the end of the season to maximize the $$$ he can get.

Christopher Price ?@cpriceNFL 3m

Per @RapSheet, Ninkovich reached a 3-yr extension worth more than $15M. $8.5M guaranteed. 3rd highest-paid Pats defender.

Great news. Glad he is getting rewarded for playing some great football.
