Before I made that post to him, I was honestly wondering what the chances are of that actually being Chung.

huh?????? What did this mean? you sent Deus' post to Chung?

are you saying you and DI are one and the same and have been running dual accounts since 2006 (amazingly enough - same join date [below]).

If so, MUCHOS RESPECT DUDE, not One but Two over mega-post (36K and 22K) accounts.

Chung is so good...can't believe we let him go

No one is suggesting that Chung is so good.

The patriots chose not to pursue Chung as a re-sign because it was clear that he could get a better contract elsewhere.

I would note that a healthy Chung would have been in the mix at competing for our #3 (and certainly #4) safety positions this year. After all, we have Harmon, T Wilson and Ebner.

No, I'm NOT saying that we should ahve signed Chung. Belichick chose A Wilson as an upgrade. Curiously, he ended on IR, injured as Chung often was.

This board's problem with Chung is that people were rushing to anoint the guy the next elite safety just like they did with Meriweather. Hell, people had Dowling pegged as a shutdown corner after the first 2 games he played.

As always, most of these guys are not as great as they are when they are prematurely crowned and they're not as bad as they're made out to be when they fail to live up to the hype that only existed on this forum.

Stomper, Chung & Glas-IR had no business whatsoever being chosen with the 24th, 34th & 33rd
overall picks of their respective drafts. That's how I and others felt at the time those picks were
made, and unfortunately our fears have all been confirmed.

Should have picked William Moore instead. I know a few of us were clamoring for the Pats to draft him.

Chung was not a good cover Safety in college. And we needed a safety who could cover. I don't know why BB picked him.

I remember being stoked about the kid coming out of Oregon. For a short time early on, aside from struggling a bit in pass coverage, the defense seemed better with him on the field than off. However, that didn't last. I never understood why he struggled so much. All reports were how he watched so much game film. Oh well. I wish him the best.

Being a good guy and a good safety are not the same thing. As a safety, he was garbage. Those of us that saw it from day one and got piled on for the better part of three years for it (at least until it couldn't be denied anymore) are simply pointing out that those issues in the secondary weren't schematic. Philly was supposedly better tailored to his strengths as a safety and it turns out he still sucks.

Belichick's fault for bringing him and indegibo here

they shoulda drafted Tommy Chong...at least we woulda got some cheap laughs out of it...

Kind of crazy to think that both Chung and Ihedigbo are starting safeties right now, albeit bad ones on teams that have among the worst safety positions in the NFL. Heck, both Huff and Ihedigbo were completely invisible against the Broncos (and not in the good, McCourty way), and it was Huff that was benched rather than Diggy.

So, teams are desperate enough to start two special teamers and backup safeties.

I'm not at all sure the 2013 patriots have better backups/Sters than Chung and Ihedigbo. Perhaps, we do; perhaps not.

Perhaps there are those here who think that we have players able to start in Wilson, Harmon and Ebner. I suspect that they would look as bad as starters as the two we criticize. Of course, those who are gone are always worse.

Well Chung also has a $3M cap hit this season. If you're going to have a bad safety, he might as well be cheap (like Wilson, Harmon, and Ebner), at least.

I agree 100%, when we made the decision was made and now, in hindsight. Chung wws going to get paid as astarter, just not by the patriots.

But Chung was a value pick.

The Pats passed on Clay Mathews and Hakim Nicks to get Chung, Brace and Butler.

.....and Gronk and Edelman.

Why didn't you mention the Pats also passed on Donald Brown, Eric Wood, Kenny Britt, Ziggy Hood, Beanie Wells, Brian Robiskie, Alphonso Smith, Rey Maualuga and Eben Britton?

Oh right, they're all busts

Why did the pats draft him so high if he is a dumpster fire at coverage? Great metaphor.

That's what most of us have been trying to figure out since April of 2009.

My recollection is that we knew Chung couldn't cover pretty much when he was drafted and ultimately it was no surprise that he couldn't cut it long term.
