Immediate Game Thoughts - I think the Pats just punted again edition

I'm sure everyone is crazed but not interested in reading the panic. There are plenty of concerns about this team. It's going to be a struggle and potentially one of Brady's most difficult seasons.

That said we will definitely improve down the road. KT and Donson will hopefully get better as they are needed to play a bunch of snaps. Then we get players healthy. Bottom line is 2-0 is a very good thing. If we had lost one of these I would be quite worried but they pulled it out.

Don't think it's gonna be comfortable, but anything can happen.

Arrington did come back into the game after being shaken up.

The Jets are garbage, on both sides of the ball. The Patriots are killing themselves with mental errors - most of which are correctable. Any offense would like steaming dog **** if their top 3 offensive weapons were out.

The secondary is quickly becoming the strength of the D again after it's been a sieve for awhile now. The coverage downfield was great on a lot plays.

Wilfork must be injured or something. There's no way a scrub like DuCasse should be handling him like that. Thankfully, Jones and Ninkovich picked up the slack.

Why are the Jets garbage on the defensive side of the ball? After 2 games it appears they are anything but defensive garbage. Their run D looked especially stout. While final season stats may show the D is good or bad or mediocre, at this moment in time calling the Jets' D "garbage" is wholly unsubstantiated. But there have only been two games played and the Jets D, so far, looks capable.

I suppose we should just be lucky to be 2-0.

After all, our home opener last year was against a team thought to be far inferior, and we lost to those Cardinals.

Of course, when we had bad days last year you just chalk it up to 'one of those days' vs. right now where our team without Gronk/Amendola look lost.

Getting bailed out by drops and mental mistakes isn't what I'd call "good" defense. Their run D looks above average, but beyond that, their secondary is garbage. The Patriots easily could have won that game by 21+ points without shooting themselves in the foot. It's unnerving that it was even ever as close as it was.

In fairness to the Jets, their D played considerably better than I gave them credit for coming into the match. That said, Gronkowski, Amendola and Vereen were three big, three fairly important names that would have made a considerable difference.

Milliner looked every bit the rookie where Richardson looked like a seasoned vet.

So much negative crap..

Yeah we played a horrible game..it happens..No gronk..no amendola...it's not going to be 43-21 anymore.

Secondary is much better than last year IMO...true test will be against ATL

900 yards of punts..haha

Well at least we have an idea that Dobson can get separation, just gotta work on bringing it in.

And tough luck for Thompkins on that ball that came loose in the endzone had his hands been 2 inches more around the ball he probably has himself his first TD.

These guys just gotta catch up with the speed of regular season football and get the jitters out, once that happens they will be nice additions to the pass game.

Luckily the Pats have a history of only getting better as the season progresses.

Dont think i have seen Rex's defense allowing receivers to run behind them consistently. Either they really didnt respect our rookie WRs which is not a bad ploy or they really got beat. That secondary wont hold up if they play like this against better offenses.

Beginning to think Thompkins is a bit dim-witted. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Not a cerebral player. AT ALL.

BUST?

Not sure if you can really be a bust if you weren't even drafted, but that's just my take on it.

:)

EDIT: I see this has been addressed by others earlier in the thread.

You must some keen eyesight to be able to see how KT thinks. I can't even consistently tell whether he's running the wrong route or simply seeing something different from Brady, who is 30 yards away being chased by a bunch of DLinemen. You really need to share the secret of your soul-penetrating gaze.

I'll take W 13–10 over L 35–38 any day of the week.

Shoot, after these past few years, I'll take a 13-10 win over a 38-35 win. Of course, it was the Jets, so we better see some more scoring from the Pats, if they want to go anywhere this year.

The secondary actually looks pretty terrible. If that were the Patriots offense of any of the last 4 years, it would have been a laugher.

Let's be clear about the wideouts especially on the boundary - they were torching the Jets corners in 1-on-1 situations. So that's a plus. Brady wasn't perfect my any means, but a lot of those drops should have been catches, no question.

Dobson, separation wise, looks like a completely different player than he did in preseason. The assumption that he was dealing with an injury may have been right all along. Now he just needs to work on catching the ******* ball.

I thought his hands were supposed to be his best asset. (cue the video of that ridiculous one-handed TD catch in college)

big stage for an undrafted guy and a rookie who didn't play week 1....these guys will improve......it is all part of the process.....they way they get open, they'll start catching more of those passes over the top

I'd just like to know why we didn't see more of boyce....could have helped with the underneath stuff

Yeah great question on Boyce. I thought he'd play a lot last night.

  • Thompkins could <arguably> be considered a bust since only a few weeks ago people were saying he is a first round talent and the steal of the draft. Oops!
  • My boy Allen the Punter kind of choked on that last punt and was inconsistent but for now I'm happy that he didn't muff the snap or the holds
  • Gostowski has to be better. He completely shanked that missed FG. And why are the Pats always sacrificing yards to get him in the middle of the field when there is time on the clock?? Getting five to ten yards closer seems to be the wiser decision.
  • I LOVED seeing the Pats stretch the field outside the numbers! It's great to see a tall guy with speed out there who can gain separation! Thompkins is also effective out there. I think learnig to catch the ball will come with time.
  • I didn't like Mayock last night. He kept saying the Refs CLEARLY made the correct call every time there was a borderline call. And who cares if Talib didn't go out of bounds right away at end??? That's not showboating.

Dobson has to catch those balls, the bomb was inexcusable! Ditto for Thompson. Once the Gronk and Amendola return they should be OK. But still letting Welker go, is going to haunt the Pats.

The defense played great. I thought that they did an excellent job of keeping Smith in the pocket.

Did anyone else catch that Ridley is now carrying the ball like Tiki Barber (once they fixed his fumbleitis) and does not leave it on the ground after a run?

Bottomline, the Pats are 2-0 and 2-0 in the division.

Our WR's were not running to the sticks last night...they were two to three yards short everytime which explains the abysmal 3rd down conversions. Seriously are our WR's :scared: of the First down Marker? They have to learn to run the route to the appropriate dept, thats a sign of good route runners.
