Leon Washington is back

The revolving door continues. BB is killing me with these roster moves. LOL :p

Re: Re: Leon Washington is back

Patriots re-signed RB/KR Leon Washington.

Washington was just released on Sunday and visited with the Jets and Giants earlier this week. He'll be brought back for the season opener. The Patriots also re-signed FB James Develin on Friday to complete their 53-man roster.

I like the move, probably saved us a few bucks and now we have a legit kick returner.

Fantastic.

Troll the Giants, Jets and potentially the Bills all in one move? Nice!

The Bills will have been preparing for Edelman/Boyce/Blount returning kicks all week and the Giants & Rats had him in for a workout.

Good news. I think he'll make some plays for us this year.

Looks like it is for the long term..

According to Reiss...

With Washington being signed for the first week of the season, it fully guarantees his new salary for the remainder of the 2013 season, making it more likely he could remain on the team's roster.

I like both these signings. Gonna be a fun season, IMHO. :rocker:

Nice. Always liked Washington.

good, I didnt really like the washington cut to begin with...this team has badly needed a kickoff returner with some speed(and I hated Mccourty out there doing it) if he can come anything close to what he did last year with the seahawks it will make the team all that deadlier

Glad Washington is back. At the very least, hopefully this means we wont have to throw any starters into KR duty or PR when Edelman gets hurt. If Leon still has it, adds a dimension to our team at KR we haven't had in a long time.

I do not see how this could have saved the Patriots any cash or cap space. His 2013 salary ($840,000) will remain the same. Plus, the Pats have to pay Matthew Mulligan a salary for Week 1 since he was on the roster 4PM Tuesday

Leon Washington's contract now may qualify for the veteran's exemption:

Miguel's UNOFFICIAL 2013 Patriots Salary Cap Information Page

NFL Minimum Salary Levels for the 2013 season

Rookie - $405,000
1 Credited Season - $480,000
2 Credited Seasons - $555,000
3 Credited Seasons - $630,000
4 to 6 Credited Seasons - $715,000 *
7 to 9 Credited Seasons - $840,000 *
10+ Credited Seasons - $940,000 *

*All salaries for players with four or more years of experience AND who sign contracts that qualify for veteran's exemption will only count $555,000 (the minimum salary of a player with two credited seasons) against teams' salary caps.

If there was not a financial reason to cut and re-sign, then I suppose someone did not impress in practice this week? Virtually impossible to guess their next roster move.

Meh. I don't think Leon was the problem or solution.

Our blocking frankly sucks and we should look into a coaching change at ST, or maybe hire on an assistant who knows a thing or two about kickoffs.

It's obvious it was all planned so he could get info from the Jets visit...;)

Couldn't agree more with the need to can Scott O'Brien.
