I knew there was something wrong with you people.

NFL Fans at the “Twitter Water Cooler" | Emory Sports Marketing Analytics | Emory.edu

Pretty interesting study of the mood of the nation's fans who use Twitter. The 3rd place ranking in being "unstable" - biggest range of mood swings after wins or losses - was somewhat understandable. They ought check stability around here after the injury reports come out if they want to find instability.

The Raiders being #1 was odd. You would think they'd be used to losing by now.

Sometimes when I read this board I think we are #1... especially amongst the "Sky if Falling" crowd...

We are also in the top 5 in saddest after a loss... right after Pittsburgh and Detroit, just above Miami and Oakland..

Lots of Patsfans twits must be using Twitter. Doesn't seem to keep the yahoos out of the game day thread disaster area though. I will be reading the thread for comedy gold Sunday. But it gets old after a couple games.

Comes with the territory of any successful franchise over a ten plus year period. A lot of that is the fairweather fans, the ones that will disappear when Brady retires.

Agreed.

Add to that the media frenzy when we do anything poorly and you get "spoiled" fan syndrome.

I agree as well. The Patriots have gone far longer than any other NFL team without having had a losing season. The majority of fans (of any team) expect their team to progress and not regress; things that would be overlooked elsewhere become amplified here. The end result is unrealistic expectations; I firmly believe that it will be a very long time before this run is duplicated due to the constraints of the salary cap and free agency.

When I think of being unstable, I can understand Raider fans being listed first - but not for the reasons listed. Maybe they're eternally optimistic, until the harsh reality that their team is awful smacks them in their clownish makeup and attire, usually well before half time of each game.

The Eagle and Cowboy fans being ranked among the most stable was also a surprise, as was the Dolphin fans being the worst after a loss.

Yup. As I've said many times before, my dream purchase would be the right to operate a diving board off the Tobin Bridge. You'd make a fortune after every Pats loss from the Chicken Little types. :rocker:

Concur. However, I pretty much do my best to stay away from the game-day threads. Too many Chicken Littles, too many trolls, etc. I'll go back and skim the thread(s) afterward, when things calm down, but it just isn't worth it to try and watch the game as well as participate in the toxic pit of emotional breakdowns that the game Day thread(s) have become.

FWIW, those same "WE'RE DOOOOOOOMED" fans would have had to be institutionalized if they'd been following the franchise in the pre-Brady years.

Reading any game thread or this board after a loss, you can see the instability in this fans base. It isn't all or the majority, but after one loss, or even in some cases a bad drive, there are a segment of the fanbase that are talking about how Belichick destroyed the team or Brady doesn't care about football or if the Pats get into the playoffs, they will be one and done.

I don't think it is indicative of the entire of the fanbase or even the majority of the fan base, but they are a very vocal portion of the fan base and they seem to come out of the woodwork when thing go bad. Just look at the Amendola was limited in practice thread.

only third....

Come on *****es. We can do better than that.

i have one name: crawhammer.

NOOOOOO! Not THAT name again!

ONLY 3rd? Whoever conducted that study clearly never read any of our gameday threads

Also agree. Pats fans are no different than 49er fans in the late '80s / early '90s who called for Montana's head whenever he threw an incompletion. Heaven forbid if the Niners ever trailed at halftime......

Institutionalized? But they were sane and correct!

I put the blame for my grey/white hair equally between the pre-Brady Patriots and my children. I'm certain their are allegories there, but I need more coffee before I start considering that.

Philly fans are the 3rd most stable because win or lose they are pissed off.

When the Pats lose everyone on the board is mad. Half are mad at the team and the coaches, the other half are mad at the "Chicken Littles". Genius!

That would be my guess too.

Actually I expected Giant fans to be among the most stable. They tend to be football fans as well as Giant fans. I guess the new Giant fan is not so much like the old.

If NE fans could be more like their incredibly effective coach (to put it mildly) we wd clearly be among the most stable.
