None of the above.
I am fine with all the transactions. As is everyone, I was surprised by some. If you really are looking for a WTF reaction, it is that we have a roster of 52 players with 6 RB's.
I'd say Mesko getting cut. All the other moves were essentially inevitable. Mesko was a surprise as I didn't expect it, but business is business.
Nothing really makes me mad, but of those listed, I wish Dowling's career would have gone differently, more like his college career where he was constantly nagged by injuries but only missed significant time in one season.
Mesko was a "hmmmmm" moment for me. Now, given that qualification, it's not that concerning a move if BB feels Allen punted as well as Mesko and comes at a fraction of the cost.
Look,I was AT the camps last month and I wrote right here..."this guy Ryan is outkicking Mesko by ten yards and hang time"....I was with Tunescribe for one practice and we were sitting at the 50 yard line watching them kick from the 20...I don't know how you people got the impression that Mesko and Allen were even...the fact is, the argument I heard was ":Mesko is too good at directional kicks and putting the ball deep without it going to the end zone. THAT was the argument for Mesko. Now it's because of money?
I believe Allen outkicked him and the staff went with the best punter...period.If you want to continue with this million dollar boogey man, feel free...we'll all find out soon enough just how big Allen's leg is...
Mesko is a great and amusing guy, and a better punter than Allen. So that one was strictly business.
Hooman went and renegotiated his contract for LESS. Did you look at Fells production last year? THAT was monetary.
I think Mesko's agent had a lot to do with them moving to Allen. They TAUGHT Mesko the skills he uses to directionally kick. They will do the same with Allen and hopefully get a much BIGGER leg in the process.
It's not about Mesko's a great guy and the dirty Pats screwed him because they're cheap. It's business and it makes business sense as well as pure athletic sense.
The following New England Patriots will be unrestricted free agents in 2014:The good news is that Belichick has built a very competitive team once again while also putting themselves in a great situation for next year and the immediate future. If the Fanane money can be recouped it will only be more of a bonus at this point, and most importantly the Hernandez money has already been factored into the new salary cap figure that will help during the offseason once again. You've got to absolutely love that aspect of things.
nah...I'm always guilty of being unclear...what I was referring to was the collective "Pats are cheap!!!" cries of distress whenever someone in the organizations farts. I think a kid who has been acknowledged to have the best leg in college can live up to kicking the ball on 4th downs without suddenly giving up hundreds of "sky falling!!!!!" runbacks. In fact, with his hang time, we should get MORE fair catches than with Mesko...time will tell. They let Vinitieri walk amidst the same hue and cry...how'd THAT work out?
