Re: Aiken, Jones, Koutivides cut

Koutivides has reportedly been told to 'stay ready', again per radio.

Nothing overly surprising. The real meat will be coming after Thursday.

I was under the impression that teams could not make these type of roster moves until the 53-man cuts - that players had to be waived, and then they could be placed on IR only if nobody claimed them? (Similar to the Pats claiming Jake Ballard).

Apparently this can be done earlier? Or are these guys waived/injured, with Reiss assuming that they won't be claimed?

78 players. Maybe they'll cut Tebow 3 times to get it down to 75.

Giants waived Ballard so he didn't count against their 90 man

The rules may be the same for the 75 and 53 man cuts.

This, and also the Ballard move happened way back in the spring I think. I'm guessing this week was the first that teams could place young guys on IR without putting them on waivers.

what does that bring number to now?

79 by my count (or perhaps 77)

Pats were at 84

They added two (CB Stephon Morris, DL Scott Vallone) to make it 86

They cut five (Kamar Aiken, Brandon Jones, Niko Koutouvides, LeQuan Lewis, Mike Zupancic) to make it 81

Two were either waived/injured or placed on IR (Cory Grissom, Markus Zusevics) to make it 79

Armond Armstead and Mark Harrison were placed on Reserve/NFI. If they still count for being on the roster then they're still at 79; if not then they are down to 77

At minimum two more roster moves need to be made

I didn't realize Zusevics was hurt that badly. (Even if this is more redshirt than big injury.) So I guess it's either Stankiewitch or a new guy as #8 OL.

And yeah -- Koutivides makes perfect sense as a speed-dial guy.

That Ballard move happened during Training camp, not in the spring.

Also, I believe that with TC "done", players can go straight to the IR.

Sorry to see Chandler go. I thought he showed a lot of promise, but that was an unacceptable preseason with only a few sacks and only about a half dozen heavy pressures. I just hope some other team picks him up for a possible practice squad gig.
