The scrap heap!

Awesome list! I added the defensive list.

I am sure there are strong 'feelings' involved but maybe a few hugs ($$$$) could convince Seymour to return. DT depth is very thin, this would create a nice rotation across the front.

Jesus would i love to see that happen. I was just wondering about this the other day but assumed he had been re-signed by Oakland or i would have heard more about it. Bringing him back would fill a need with a guy who has had a stellar career but I have serious doubts that he would play for Belichick again, I really think he hates him.

Seymour will return in a minute for 10 million per year.

I'm sure he would, the question is whether he would return for 2 million or so? i know i would give him at least that to come back.

And he would gladly take the last football contract of his life and play hungry. Because we all know how once Seymour gets a little cash in his pocket he plays all out! The guy is a hardworking stud who always gives 110% and is never a dissenting voice tearing the front office down and therefore undermining the whole system. Him is my most loved player in all of Bizarro world!

Of course he hates him. Lazy Gold-Brickers always hate the boss.

I'll throw a name out there: DT Terrence Stephens.

He's with the Bengals right now, and when you search his name you need to filter past his auditioning for American Idol and being ruled ineligible to play in the Rose Bowl. Cincy will start Domata Peko and Geno Atkins, and likely keep Devon Still (2nd round pick in 2012) and Brandon Thompson (3rd round pick this year) behind them. I'm guessing they won't go with five DT and look to move Stephens to their Practice Squad, but perhaps the Pats could scoop him up off waivers after roster cutdowns before that happens.

Stanford | Terrence Stephens

2012 (SENIOR):Emotional senior leader for the defensive line played in 11 games and started seven...finished with 10 tackles including 3.0 for loss and a solo sack...tied up blockers in the middle of the defense to allow Cardinal linebackers to make plays in the nation's top sacks (56) and tackles for loss (120) defense, often without his own statistics to show...played the game of his career on Senior Day in the regular season home finale at Stanford Stadium vs. Oregon State...made a career-high five tackles (four solo), two solo tackles for loss and an eight-yard sack that forced a Cody Vaz fumble in the comeback win against the Beavers...exploded through the line of scrimmage for a two-yard tackle for loss on the first defensive play of the game at Washington...earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

2011 (JUNIOR): Started all 13 games at nose tackle...finished with 11 tackles, including 4.0 stops for lost yardage... had four tackles against Duke in the second game of the season...forced a Curtis McNeal fumble at the goal line which was recovered by A.J. Tarpley in the end zone to preserve Stanford's triple overtime victory at USC....also finished with three tackles against the Trojans

I would love to bring in any of a handful of people of the FA list for CB and anyone that gets cut to at least have a look at. I feel like we have poor depth there despite the amount of bodies/resources we've committed to it. Had Ras-IR not gotten injured again during camp, I'd probably be content with what we have there, but I would want one more guy there if this were a madden team I put together.

Also, is Nick Barnett damaged goods? It looks like he's a Redskin now, but I see him on this list...

I almost hate to say it, but since we have no idea about the abilities of Armstead at this point, Richard Seymour would be a perfect addition if the cap situation wasn't the issue. If Armstead isn't in our future, I would be willing to invest $5MM so Richard can finish his career where it started.

While it would be an old DT unit with Wilfolk, Kelly, and Seymour, it would be a good one, especially if the managed their snaps well. Then in the 2014 draft DT should be elevated the biggest need

Richard Marshall? Discuss.

Dolphins just cut him. I believe he used to be good but haven't been following him

Richard Marshall anyone? He would make Glass-IR expendable.

I have serious doubts that he would play for Belichick again, I really think he hates him.

My guess based on his (admittedly scant) public comments is that Seymour hated Belichick with a passion for a couple of months, held onto a lingering bitterness for another year, then the combination of time and the Oakland coaching carousel finally brought him back around to a grudging respect for Belichick, and appreciation for his role in putting rings on his fingers.

I also think it would be a smart business move for Seymour, as he heads toward retirement, to leave New England fans with a rosier memory of him.

So...not impossible, IMO.

Injury prone but he can play Safety and Cornerback. He's an intriguing prospect but would probably be better served teaming up in Cleveland with Ray Horton. He played pretty well in Arizona under Horton. That would be a nasty secondary in Cleveland. I'm not sure why but I'm developing a soft spot for the Browns.

Also, for the people positioning Seymour for a Patriots return. Geez that would be nice (assuming he still has something left in the tank). Big Vince makes every lineman better.

Interesting. The Dolphins signed him to a big contract last season, then back injuries completely derailed his season. It's possible that he's just no longer effective, but it's also possible that he's still a useful player but nowhere near worth the money he was going to cost them.

Factoid: Marshall has played in only 1 playoff game in his 7-year career, a loss. How frustrating must that be?

Re: Re: The scrap heap!

Larry Fitgerald and JJ Watt are two guys that come to mind. Both have the potential to be impact players if they go to a contender.

seriously though, any talent at safety or DE/DT would be great. Darnell Docket, Ryan Pickett, and Red Bryant off the top of my head.

I'd be over joyed if Red Bryant was released and we signed him, he'd be a perfect fit for our defense.

There's also .01% probability of the Seahawks being stupid enough to cut one of their Defensive Line stalwarts and impact players. That said, it would be bloody nice to sign him. I was fairly disappointed when he chose to return to Seattle ahead of signing with New England. He's a very, very good player.

Up until 2011, sure. He would have fit right in as a 3-4 LE and as the LE in the 4-3 Over in 2011. He's had lots of issues with leverage inside, so he's not a great fit for the more standard 4-3 (260 pound LE as opposed to 330) that it looks like the Pats are going to use more this season.

Baltimore projections have Terence Cody or Marcus Spears being released. I’m not sure how high I am on either of them but Cody could serve as a run stopping, short yardage, goal lines specialist?

Mt. Cody could be released? Hmm, he was a heralded draft pick not too many years ago. I wonder what happened? Did he eat himself into the doghouse? Injuries?

He may not fit our current system though. Even if everything checks out.

Some notable players projected to be on the bubbles for their current squads for one reason or another –

Will Yeatman – OL
Vaughn Martin – DT
Tony McDaniel – DT
John Kuhn – FB
Bruce Campbell – OT
Jonathan Baldwin – WR
Riley Cooper – WR
Carlos Rogers – CB

I’d probably only be interested in Martin, Baldwin and Cooper (dumbass though).
