Gumbel and Dierdorf are calling the game.

Urgh.

There will be at least one Buck/Aikman game too (Saints) so that will be TV on mute!

I for one have no problem with any commentating crew. Love Buck and Troy too. Look foreword to them doing multiple pats games this year.

I dunno depending on how the Ravens are doing they might end up calling Packers/Ravens that week.

But you're probably right. I can see Buck and Aikman insisting on doing Pats/Saints Especially with that potentially being the game Brady ties Brees in games with consecutive TD. Although it's possible Buck would miss that game as the baseball playoffs will be happening.

Only 2 FOX games this year.

Tampa & New Orleans.

And the week Pats play Tampa, the Packers are at the Bengals on FOX so i'd bet they'll be doing that game.

Hoping for a 3rd if you know what I mean.

Agree with Buck and Aikman. Nothing worse than Mumble Gumbel and Quierdorf though. I will have the Pats game on mute with my other flat screen on a chair next to it containing the RedZone channel... on full volume.

Meh. Out of all the commentary crews, that is my least favorite.

The maximum number of New England Patriots games that Fox can broadcast in a year (excluding the preseason and Super Bowl) is two, so it would be somewhat unusual for them to pass on the opportunity to air a Pats game. That being said, when the Bucs are in Foxborough (a) it's an early game and (b) CBS has the doubleheader that week. Fox has six early games that day so those games are likely to be split fairly evenly regionally.

The week six game against New Orleans on the other hand will be shown virtually everywhere, and will get their top broadcast crew (Buck and Aikman). If things go as planned then that will be the game that Tom Brady ties or breaks (I forget which) Brees' NFL record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass, on top of featuring two of the NFL's best offenses. There are only four areas that won't get that game: Arizona is at SF on Fox at the same time, plus Seattle and Denver have home games at the same time.

For what it's worth here is a list of the broadcast teams on Fox and CBS. You can get an idea of how big a game is depending on the broadcast team. I consider the Patriots games consistently getting Nantz/Simms, Gumbel/Dierdorf or Buck/Aikman to be a sign of respect.

CBS
1) Jim Nantz//Phil Simms
2) Greg Gumbel//Dan Dierdorf
3) Ian Eagle//Dan Fouts
4) Marv Albert//Rich Gannon
5) Kevin Harlan//Solomon Wilcots
6) Bill Macatee//Steve Tasker
7) Spero Dedes//Steve Beuerlein

Fox
1) Joe Buck, Troy Aikman & Pam Oliver
2) Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa
3) Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick & Laura Okmin
4) Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch & Erin Andrews
5) Chris Myers, Tim Ryan & Jennifer Hale
6) **** Stockton, Ronde Barber & Kris Budden
7) Sam Rosen, Heath Evans & Molly McGrath

Well one area on I know that won't be getting Pats/Bucs is Connecticut.

Really wish the NFL would bend the rules a tad for us people that live in Connecticut when the Pats and Giants are on at the same time on FOX and air the Pats game on FOX CT's sister station WCCT (The CW)

This is entirely my fault. I was just in Las Vegas and talking to my friend who is a Bills fan. We were talking about announcers we hate. I started with how I used to hate Phil Simms and Jim Nantz but they've actually become one of the best due to the drop off of everyone else.

Then I got to Dumbledierdorf. Good god. He's awful. I went off on a drunken tangent about how useless his commentary is.

This is karma. I'm sorry.

Either get Sunday Ticket or do what I used to do and stream the Pats games online (the forum rules prevent me from posting links). Once you find a good stream, you can hook an HDMI cable to your TV (assuming your TV is newer) and stream the game directly to your TV from your computer. You won't believe the quality of some of the streams out there.

Get ready for a heavily Bills biased call . They did it last time too.

Don't have DirecTV, plus with the Red Zone channel and there only being at most one Pats game not being available locally a season due to the Giants, Sunday Ticket is basically pointless to me.

But ya I know of multiple stream sites.

A lot of their television rules are archaic and woefully outdated. The assignment of one (and only one) home team to each and every television market is a one example. Hand in hand with that is the 'other blackout rule' that forbids any other NFL game to be broadcast when the team is playing at home when that game has sold out.

The theory is (was) that people that have a ticket might not go to the game if they had a chance to watch a better game that was on TV. Paying face value for the tickets isn't enough, they want to make sure you also go and spend more money on parking, beer, food and souvenirs.

The rule made little sense when it was implemented; think about it, if you care so little about a game that you don't want to see the game live with tickets that you already possess, why would it effect your decision to attend if some other game is or is not on TV? The only rationale I can think of to keep the rule is to help out DirecTV, in terms of either home subscribers or sports bars that have the Sunday Ticket.

I agree. Don't mind Aikman and Buck, but can't stand Dierdorf. Grumble isn't very good but usually isn't overly annoying.

worst news i have had in months....

I like listening to Dierdorf. I think it's more of a nostalgic thing from growing up watching MNF as a kid. I'm not too involved in what they are actually saying most the time, I got one eye on my Pats and another eye on my FF teams.

Those with 5.1 and other surround sound systems can look at their AV manuals and shut down the commentary speakers while still listening to crowd noise, just like in stadium. Then you can log into Patsfans for the game thread commentary. Oh, wait...
