EJ Manuel out (for rest of pre-seaon) in Buffalo

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Kolb notch a win over us last year?

Chickens are fur eatin' not counting!

Well fortunately for Buffalo, they will have Kolb and 52 other guys. Kolb has a better shot beating NE than Manuel, mostly because he has done it!

The Cardinals defense & scab refs beat the Patriots last year, Kolb was not very good (15/27 140 and a TD which came from a drive starting inside the 5 after a blocked punt IIRC).

Yeah, when a QB throws a total of 140 yds against you and you have the benefit of already having tape and a decent scouting system on him, I'd tend to lean towards wanting to play him. We also know that he'll mainly be staying in the pocket, so there's not much of a worry about him taking off downfield for 50 yds at any given time.

EJ Manuel will pose some problems by having the ability to both run and pass, and has looked pretty good so far in the preseason. On top of that, we've never played against him and don't have the benefit of being able to watch any meaningful tape with him in their offense, so the unexpected sometimes adds to the concern.

Either way, I'm not going to worry about it--but personally I'd probably rather play Kolb just due to those facts alone.

I think the Bills are in trouble offensively for as long rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel is out following right knee surgery. Backup Kevin Kolb might not be watching the rush like he did at times with the Cardinals and Eagles, but he still doesn’t recognize coverage very well. He could have been intercepted several times against the Vikings in their game last Friday. I really like what I’ve seen so far in Manuel. They’re not giving him overcomplicated reads (usually half-field) or routes to deal with, which is smart by the Bills coaching staff. It’s not about where Manuel is now or for his entire rookie season, it’s about where he will take the Bills down the road. And right now they’re headed in the right direction.

Yeah Kolb is terrible.

Manuel is back and is expected to practice today. Barring any setback, it looks as though the Pats will face Manuel on opening day.
