Immediate Game Thoughts - Rumors of Brady's Death are Exaggerated Edition

When did this "Tebow could try TE" start and who started it?

I think he is athletic enough to be a H-Back or a TE. Don't know if he would be good at it. At this point, he has more of a future converting to one of those positions than at QB.

Who knew Edelman could be a WR and a punt returner? As far as I know, he never played WR in high school or college.

32 teams made that mistake on both players. They both are starting quality players, and may start for us this year. AWESOME!

Why didn't people sign Sudfeld or Thompkins? Undrafted free agents are not drafted for a reason.

Tebow is athletic enough to do a lot of things. He is not skilled enough to be a NFL player that anyone would want to pay money to play. He can be a 3rd QB for a team that needs a 3rd QB and wants media attention.

Eds did not play WR in college but he came to camp, practiced well, was effective in pre season and then when thrown into real games, responded.

When has Tebow done any of that? Maybe TT is good in practice and they are waiting for it to transfer to a game?

It could be scary that the two best players the Pats got out of this year's draft could end up being two guys that no one wanted to draft.

I don't want Tebow on the team in any way whether it is at QB or TE or H-Back or just a punt protector. I am just saying the only shot he has at being useful to this or any team is to change his position.

I know I will get labeled a Tebow hater, but I just don't think he is an NFL QB.

But I don't really want to talk about a third string QB who is on the roster bubble on a night where the starters played out of their minds.

[*]The kick off coverage is atrocious. As of right now, it is the weakest part of the team. It was bad last year. They need to fix that quick.

Football Outsiders ranked the Pats' KO coverage as the best in the league last year.

I may be wrong, but my memory was that it wasn't good. Maybe it was just kick returns.

Minor point: at the time, it was perfectly defensible.

In hindsight, of course, both should have been drafted, and I don't think anyone here would be complaining now if they had been the Pats' 7th rounders instead of Buchanan and Beauharnais.

I agree. I mean who gives a shhite about the guy? He isnt that great. People should find a new hero. Tims a great guy and all and I wish he was great for us. But no matter how much I wish for it to happen, it does not seem to be happening.

Allen might not show enough to make him attractive enough to trade for him, but many UDFAs aren't drafted because people don't think enough about them and then they exceed expectations in the preseason.

I don't know if anyone would trade for Allen. I think it isn't great odds at this point. But there is hope someone would.

I would imagine that teams w/ crummy punters would offer UDFA contracts to Ray Guy Award winners or finalists. Maybe I'm wrong ...

Tim Tebow being a hero has nothing to do with his current abilities as an NFL quarterback. Tebow will continue to be a hero to many, and has a future giving motivational speeches and writing motivational material.

I thought the big take from this game was that the starting O-line held up against a team with some solid players up front, but the depth there is little enough that the cuts should be easy decisions. Most of the rest, both good and bad, was of far less value, IMO.

I'll also add, though, that Vereen really looks like he'll be a key mismatch advantage for the offense when they move him out of backfield, as long as he can put up respectable numbers running the ball.

Forgot one more. The unsung hero of the offense is Josh McDaniels. I know this will make Dropkick Mavericks' head explode, but I think he deserves a lot of credit if what we have seen out of the first team offense is what we will see in the regular season.

I know his detractors say that anyone could have done well with the weapons in 2007, but how about last year? Last year, he lost Gronk for 6 games, Hernandez for a different 6 game and he was never 100%, and only had Welker and Lloyd for receivers. And even then, the offense was among the highest scoring in NFL history.

This year, he lost Welker, Hernandez, Lloyd, Woodhead, and possibly Gronk and so far the offense hasn't missed a beat thus far. Brady looks as if he is improving. Amendola looks like he has been playing in this offense for years. Ridley looks like Woodhead Plus with an added dimension of being able to line up wide and run a fade route. And McDaniels had to revise the entire offensive philosophy a couple a months ago when Hernandez was arrested (he obviously was going to be a major part of the offense at least until Gronk came back healthy).

Brady obviously deserves a lionshare for the passing game, but you gotta credit McDaniels for taking all these new pieces and making it work. I know we have to temper the excitement because it is the preseason, but I find it hard to believe that the offense is currently unstoppable now and then totally fall apart in the regular season.
