Training Camp Thread 8/13/2013

Looking for a better showing from manxman2601 than yesterday's dismal thread. Off to a better start at least.

I know. I feel I let you down yesterday and I promise to try and do better.

Are you impressed I did the date the American way?

Why write it the wrong way?

Oh crap, why did I just post.........

Looking for something from the opponent's point of view and found this. It sounds like Da'Quan Bowers may be playing himself out of a job. At one point Bowers was considered to be a possibility for the number one overall pick of the 2011 draft (ahead of Andrew Luck), before reports came out about his bad knees.

On a side note apparently Bryan Cox is on the coaching staff in Tampa Bay.

Inside Bucs Training Camp 8-12 --- Pewter Report

Defensive end Da’Quan Bowers seemed to have a really hard time understanding and executing his assignments.

“We have to go upfield,” yelled a coach.

Bowers struggled to understand a concept being taught during this drill, frustrating teammate Adrian Clayborn.

“Come on man,” said Clayborn.

The former Clemson defensive end still couldn’t execute what the coaches were asking of him and a coach made another remark.

“Still too slow,” said the coach.

The first team unit spent a substantial amount of time working on their stunts and assignments, and it seemed like the player holding them back was Bowers. The coaching staff had something to say to him after nearly every rep.

Clayborn jumped offsides on a later rep, earning himself a gasser from one sideline to the other and back. Bowers also had to run later on in the session.

Defensive end Steven Means showed some nice quickness and acceleration on a rep and was praised by an assistant coach.

“That’s the take off I’m looking for,” exclaimed Bryan Cox.

Da'Quan Bowers admits need for better conditioning | Tampa Bay Times

Greg Schiano has been putting considerable pressure on the shoulders of DE Da’Quan Bowers, challenging him both publicly and privately to show more in his bid to be a full-time player for the first time.

Now, even Bowers admits what’s been obvious for a while: A big part of his problem is his conditioning.

“I think I’m still a little winded at times,” Bowers said. “I’m still not in the best shape. I’m still getting used to the speed of practice. But other than that, (training camp) has been decent.”

...

Bowers played more than just about any veteran starter in Thursday night’s preseason opener, and you can expect that he’ll have a big role in next week’s game at New England, too.

“I felt like I needed it,” Bowers said. “I’m an unproven defensive end in this league. I felt I needed the extra work.”

Well, gotta hand it to the dude for being humble, I guess.

I don't mean to be pedantic but it was Cam Newton and not Luck. I don't think Clowney would have gone ahead of Luck in '12.

But you are right, he certainly was considered a potential 1st overall pick until his knee issues came to light.

Comments from Derek Havens, Patriots Haven:

- #Patriots players are wearing blue and #Buccaneers are wearing white.

- To start practice the #Patriots are warming up on the right field and the #Buccaneers on the left field. NFL Referees are also on the field.

- Interesting to watch the #Buccaneers warm up and stretch compared to the #Patriots. Just a different routine and approach to the session.

- Interesting how the #Patriots are still stretching and warming up while the #Buccaneers are working in light group drills.

- No Brandon Spikes so far at #Patriots practice, can't find him. The only unexpected absence.

- The #Buccaneers are into a lot more groups, doing a lot more drills compared to the #Patriots. The Bucs are doing a lot of fundamental work.

- LeQuan Lewis, the CB who was signed yesterday by the #Patriots, looks good in 1-on-1 drills.

- Darelle Revis and Robert Kraft talking on the field. Revis has looked good running and cutting, not wearing a brace.

- #Patriots WR Aaron Donson beats #Buccaneers CB Johnthan Banks deep. Brady hits him 35 yards down the field.

- Revis is not taking part in 1-on-1 drills.

- Teams were doing 1-on-1 positional drills in several groups, now gearing up for kickoff returns. Weather is cool, overcast and spitting rain.

- Leon Washinton showing incredible vision and explosiveness during return drills. Eluding several #Buccaneers defenders.

- Teams doing 7-on-7 drills. Brady threads the needle to Amendola down the seam. Pats D has McCourty at RCB, A Wilson and LB, Harmon at safety.

- Play of the day: #Patriots offense against #Buccaneers defense 7-on-7's. Brady fires to Thompkins and he catches one handed, behind CBs back.

- Josh Boyce having a very strong practice today. Making solid catches, creating separation and flying by defenders. Hope to see this continue.

Regarding Revis, he is not expected to participate in the joint practices and will definitely not play in this week's game. There have been conflicting reports from Tampa regarding when he will play; some reports say he won't play in any preseason games, and some say he may play next week.

Will the Buc's D attack on a kneel down during preseason?

Will the Buc's D attack on a kneel down during preseason?

we never QUIT!!!!!!!
-the bucs

I'd like to see how dobson handles revis, Shame revis wont be ready for the game.

but we get that during the regular season i think so that should be a nice test for the rookie.

Comments from Stephen Holder, Tampa Bay Times:

- Practice moved up a few hours here in Foxborough because of the threat of rain. Will hear from Belichick before practice, Schiano after.

- #Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount should get a nice welcome from former teammates. He was always well liked in the locker room.

- (Q.: And how about Talib?) -- " uh, him too

- Watching Bucs and Pats do individual drills side by side is interesting. One looks like college, the other doesn't. Way more fundamentals.

- (Q.: Do you mean they look more polished or have more fundamentals or what?) -- No.... referring to the types of drills, etc. Bucs use many you rarely see at the NFL level. Not judging. Just sayin...

- First WR-DB rep: Mike Williams vs Aqib Talib. AQ batted down

- BTW Williams got Talib good the second time around with sweet inside move

Comments from Rick Stroud, Tampa Bay Times:

- Bucs CB Johnthan Banks beaten deep by Pats WR Aaron Dobson with QB Tom Brady throwing a dime.

- Pats QB Tom Brady threads the seam route perfectly over the head of LB Lavonte David to Danny Amendola.
