Patriots Training Camp Day 11 (@ Philadelphia)

The Legend of Sudfeld continues: Makes a one-handed, top-tapping catch in corner of end zone for a TD. Makes another toe-tapper on next play

From Erik Scalavino, Patriots Football Weekly:

- Thunderstorm threat forcing Patriots Eagles to begin practice 2 hours early. I'll be posting throughout practice starting around 10 AM

- Looks like the same dozen Patriots missing from yesterday's Eagles joint practice are out again today, plus NE rookie TE Brandon Ford.

- NFL game officials are back for second day to help orchestrate Patriots Eagles joint practices here in Philadelphia.

- Eagles WR Riley Cooper beats Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard 1-on-1 for TD

- Patriots' Aaron Dobson, back from yesterday's punishment, just made nice jump-ball TD catch in 1-on-1 drill vs Eagles defender

- Patriots' QB Tom Brady not having a great time in 1-on-1 WR-DB drill today vs Eagles. Receivers not helping his cause, mostly.

- Patriots' CB Kyle Arrington limping badly after being kicked accidentally in the shin by a falling Eagles WR in 7-on-7.

- Patriots' Arrington getting right ankle taped over cleat.

- Eagles' Cooper with a bad drop in 7-on-7 vs Patriots, cursed himself immediately.

- Patriots' Arrington took another 7-on-7 rep with the ankle taped. Doesn't look serious.

- Patriots' Dobson now getting medical attention on left ankle. Looks like another tape job.

LOL WAT? Where is this mythical "Bequette is on the fringe" crap coming from?

I don't think it's that outlandish...the guy hasn't done squat since he's been here.

That being said, I think he'll stick personally.

Ertz has caught back to back redzone TDs from Vick.

Posted Today, 10:18 AM
So excited by the prospect of actually scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Seriously haven't experienced that in YEARS.

Maybe karma exists and we still have an epic TE duo by midseason.

Can't wait to see Suds friday.

I don't know if the Pats are in deep *** if that happens, it is not ideal, not the best thing, but they can overcome that, I think.

Cunningham became a DT in subpackages last year because of an emergency, and he really wasn't as good as some made him out to be. If that happens this year, that means that it's an emergency again and Pats fans can expect a mediocre to non-existant interior pass rush once again.

From Jeff McLane, Philadelphia Inquirer:

- Slim pickings at WR in FA. Brandon Lloyd is prob the best of the lot but he's a bit of problem child. Don't see the #Eagles taking that on.

- Other options: Donald Jones, recently cut by the Pats. Laurent Robinson, has had workouts. Brandon Stokley, was OK for Den last season. ...

- Randy Moss and Chad Johnson haven't officially retired, but they should. Lesser names like Brandon Banks and, yikes, Jabar Gaffney.

- Bill Belichick on yesterday's practice with the #Eagles: "I thought it was a real competitive practice."

- #Eagles that will miss practice: Menkin (Illness), Peters, Kelly, A Dixon and Wang. Connor Barwin is back from illness. McCoy suited up. Damaris Johnson and Felix Jones are back, as well.

- #Eagles will have only 9 WRs at practice: Jackson, Cooper, Avant, Johnson, Momah, Shepard, Miller, Murphy and Salas.

- Former #Eagles coach **** Vermeil at today's practice.

- Not sure what Cary Williams is doing or if he's hurt, but he just wandering around away from his position group right now.

- A day after Nick Foles opened with the first team, Michael Vick goes first as 7 on 7s start

- Cary Williams took off his shoulder pads and is on side field working with strength and conditioning staff, as is LeSean McCoy once again.

- Riley Cooper drops a short pass from Vick. Right in his hands.

- A little extras between Trevard Lindley and Aqib Talib. Ended rather quickly.

Not sure there's much evidence that the interior DL is a problem with Wilfork, Kelly and Forston on the case. The DE position is well-manned with lots of versatility. The DL, barring injuries, is a real strength of this team.

From Brandon Lee of Bleeding Green Nation, an Eagles site:

- Jay Glazer is here at Eagles practice today. Just got done talking with Howie Roseman.

- LaCanfora is here too. Haven't seen him talking to Howie though.

- (TE Zach) Ertz has caught back to back redzone TDs from Vick.

- Vick "sacked". Took too long to throw.

- (Eagles RB) Chris Polk is going to make plays this year if he plays like he has in camp.

@E_Scal: #Eagles secondary has no answer to #Patriots rookie WR Kenbrell Thompkins. NE offense now featured in 11-on-11. Dobson running on sideline.

That's why I think Cunningham isn't going to be on the final 53.

From Ben Volin, Boston Globe:

- Some heavy hitters here at Pats-Eagles practice today: Jay Glazer (Fox Sports), John Clayton (espn), Mike Mayock (NFLN), Brian Baldinger (Fox, NFLN) and of course Albert Breer (NFLN)

- The great **** Vermeil is also at practice today

- Rookie TE Brandon Ford not practicing today, along with usual suspects: Cannon, Dowling, Jenkins, Connolly, etc

- Great ball skills by Kyle Arrington in 1 on 1 drills. Forced a fumble after a Demaris Johnson catch & knocked ball away from Cooper's grasp

- Volin jinx: Arrington comes off limping in 7 on 7 drills. Looks like right ankle

- Arrington gets his right ankle taped and comes back on the field

- The Legend of Sudfeld continues: Makes a one-handed, top-tapping catch in corner of end zone for a TD. Makes another toe-tapper on next play

- Looks like Aaron Dobson is hobbling a bit on the sideline

Damn it !!! Was hoping to see Dobson Friday night in his first NFL Game.

From Nick Underhill, MassLive.com:

- Watched DBs in 1-on-1s. Talib had a pick. Arrington a PBU. Logan Ryan stood out with three good plays

- Sudfeld with nice one-hand TD. Goes up for TD on next play. Mallett QB on both. 7 v 7

- (Q.: How is Mallett looking?) -- Not bad.

- No Dennard in first rotation through secondary in 11 vs. 11

- Dobson still getting looked at on sidelines. Seems to be leg/ankle. He’s trying to walk it off

- (Q.: Who is playing safety with first stringers for Pats?) -- DMac and Wilson

- Dobson is back out here

- Blount just showed me something in a short-yardage situation. Bulldozed some Eagles.

- Collins gets in the backfield pretty quick from time to time

- Thompkins and Dobson just burned everybody. Dobson beautiful deep ball with two guys on his back

- This has been a really nice series of plays. Dobson and KT shining

- And Talib is jawing the whole time to Eagles.

- Harmon getting a good amount of reps alongside DMac. Same as yesterday.

I think it's becoming obvious that Sudfeld wasn't drafted mainly due to his injury history. The fact that in his only injury free season, he was a John Mackey finalist showed the type of talent he was. I'm glad BB and staff had the b@lls to sign the kid. IF he can stay away from the injury bug, he's going to be a big help this season. I'd love to see this offense with a healthy Gronk and Sudfeld on the field at the same time.

Any word from the Philly reporters on how badly Cary Williams broke his vagina?

From Mike Reiss, espnBoston:

- Will be another full-pads practice for Patriots and Eagles today. Players starting to arrive on practice field.

- (Q. re: Ras-I Dowling's injury) -- looked like muscle-related to me (lower body).

- (Q. "What’s the difference this year with the rookie WR’s, Mike? More patience, reps with Brady? Or just better players?") -- I think it starts with smarts/skills and then a commitment from the team to integrate them into the mix right away.

- Bill Belichick likes joint practices because it forces players & coaches to adjust on the fly. Today another example.

- Rookie WR Aaron Dobson was held out of 2nd half of Tuesday's practice after scrap w/ Cary Williams. Today, limited early. Staying w/ trainer

- With WR Aaron Dobson, looked like it might have been something related to his calf. Doesn't appear overly serious, but keeping him out 4 now

- WR Aaron Dobson shakes things off and returns to practice.

Also, good to hear that Sudfeld is having another outstanding practice. Here's to hoping that the kid can carry it into the preseason, then into the regular season.

Adrian Wilson apparently got a bit banged up as well...

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
Dobson and Adrian Wilson were nicked up but both returned. Looked like ankles on both.
