Patriots Training Camp Day 11 (@ Philadelphia)

More from Erik Scalavino, PFW:

- #Patriots Dobson still being attended to on sideline. Lying prostrate while med staff seem to be working on left calf muscle.

- #Patriots CB Aqib Talib has been masterful vs #Eagles WR DeSean Jackson thus far, but just got beaten in 11-on-11. Wasn't happy with himself

- #Eagles secondary has no answer to #Patriots rookie WR Kenbrell Thompkins. NE offense now featured in 11-on-11. Dobson running on sideline

- #Patriots Dobson has returned to 11-on-11 action.

- #Patriots Talib is talking some bizarre, loud, random, indecipherable jibberish on the sideline right now... in a fun, happy sort of way.

- Meanwhile, #Patriots offense not having much success with the deep ball today vs #Eagles D.

How does one lie prostrate?

@MikeReiss: After error on long ball on Tuesday, second-year safety Tavon Wilson looks like he is losing reps to rookie Duron Harmon today.

Thats what happens when SS Patrick Chung plays his correct position bench warmer.

From Eric Galko, Optimum Scouting:

- Speaking of quarterbacks, Eagles coach Chip Kelly is expected to name his starting quarterback for Friday night after practice.

- Riley Cooper got off press from Alfonzo Dennard well. Big whole for team in getting off press. Spot where he can ear starting spot

- Also of note, two beautiful passes each from Barkley/Vick in red zone drills. Overall, #Eagles QBs/top WRs having their way w/ #Patriots CBs

- On back to back plays, Brandon Boykin shut down Aaron Dobson, followed by Trevard Lindley controlled Josh Boyce in Red Zone 1on1s.

- Overall, #Eagles QB/WRs > #Patriots DBs....Eagles CBs > Patriots WRs...Among all, Cooper/Shepard, Lindley/Boykin best of the drills.

- Dobson's routes still look noticeably unpolished. Obvious on last throw when he was off balance and slightly out of position vertically.

- Rookie TE Zach Sudfeld getting the most work of the #Patriots TEs. Work with 1st and 2nd teams and on 2-TE sets.

- Another two awesome catches by Zach Sudfeld in the back corner of the end zone and along back line. Really impressive hands/body control.

- Eagles have gone out of order on the depth chart today. DEF front 7, OL status quo, but unique with DBs. Obvious most spots there wife open.

- Brent Celek got a chance at X-WR too, similar to Zach Ertz. Didn't get off press as well as Ertz can though. Expect both to be at different spots.

- Seeing it mentioned now that Chris Polk was running with the 1s. Again, lots of fluidity across positions, but he's earned #2 RB spot behind LeSean McCoy.

- Interesting that #Eagles would rather play Patrick Chung at the slot than move Boykin inside to play vs Amendola. Boykin to get starting CB job?

- Second time around, Bryce Brown getting work with the 1s. It's just Kelly giving both guys a shot. Still a battle for the #2 RB.

- Bryce Brown looked solid on a run, one route, and a quick hitch reception...Polk comes in with big run w/ 2s. Battle should make both better.

- Aaron Dobson just jumped over Nate Allen and Curtis Marsh for a deep grab. Oohs and Ahhs abound after the impressive catch.

That is a shocker...says no one.

@MikeReiss: WR Aaron Dobson beats triple coverage for long ball catch from Tom Brady. Play of day so far. 6-foot-3 and leaping ability shows up.

Maybe for once we can have a crazy superbowl catch....

More from Jeff Howe:

- Kyle Arrington did what few have done this week. He broke up a potential TD pass to Riley Cooper. Solid play

- Brady was 11-of-16 in 1-on-1s. Three incompletions were broken up, one missed Dobson and one was spiked when Edelman couldn't get open.

- Brady was 6-of-8 in 7-on-7s. One incompletion was a spike when no one was open.

- Dobson and Adrian Wilson were nicked up but both returned. Looked like ankles on both.

- Re-damn-diculous catch by Dobson on a deep jump ball throw from Brady. Out-jumped Nate Allen and Curtis Marsh.

I think it's becoming obvious that Sudfeld wasn't drafted mainly due to his injury history. The fact that in his only injury free season, he was a John Mackey finalist showed the type of talent he was. I'm glad BB and staff had the b@lls to sign the kid. IF he can stay away from the injury bug, he's going to be a big help this season. I'd love to see this offense with a healthy Gronk and Sudfeld on the field at the same time.

I'm waiting for the idiots who always want to cut somebody who is injured, even if the team has nobody else to competently play the position. If anyone is a walking injury report it is Sudfeld.

In other circles it is commonly called: "Biting your nose to spite your face".

Also, good to hear that Sudfeld is having another outstanding practice. Here's to hoping that the kid can carry it into the preseason, then into the regular season.

Sounds like Sud's will be starting for us at TE if Gronk isn't ready to go. Its sounds like he's well ahead of our other TE's.

Nick Underhill:

Blount just showed me something in a short-yardage situation. Bulldozed some Eagles.

Some more from Erik Scalavino:

- #Patriots rookie DT Cory Grissom getting some run with the Ones on D in 11-on-11 vs #Eagles in place of vet Tommy Kelly.

- And just like that... #Patriots Plays of Day: Brady to Thompkins deep pass TD, followed by Aaron Dobson in double coverage deep TD.

- #Patriots Dobson cannot be beat on those jump balls. Just did it again on a long sideline route, single coverage.

- #Patriots Talib is talking some MAJOR trash right now after all these big plays by NE offense. Practice just took a game-time turn.

- Just spotted... a female among the #NFL officiating crew as a line judge at #Patriots #Eagles camp.

- FYI, #Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard has been a non-factor in this #Eagles joint practice. Hasn't been active since 1-on-1s. Appears injured.

- #Patriots Talib almost came up with a pair of INTs the last few plays. Both balls sailed too far over his head, though, out of the end zone.

Pretty interesting, and noteworthy. Wilson still making mental errors on deep balls, which is what got him benched last season. Hopefully, Harmon can step it up.

It's interesting to me to hear Sudfield having all these great plays but then writers still saying Fells is #1 or admitting they're all neck and neck.

So what are Hooman and Fells doing?

After making big catch, Aaron Dobson can't haul in pass from Brady (borderline drop but not easy). Then comes back w/ beauty on sideline.

Mike Reiss ?@MikeReiss 2m
Not comparing A. Dobson to R. Moss, but haven't seen this size on outside 4 Pats, & ability to win competitive-catch situations, since Moss.

Mike Reiss ?@MikeReiss 42s
Some ups and downs for rookie WRs today, but Dobson & Kenbrell Thompkins both spark "oohs" & "aahs" from teammates with tough catches.

Sounds like Dobson is going to be the red zone target we've been lacking on the outside.

The PFW guys, especially Andy Hart, have all said Fells is having a very good camp, looking extremely fluid catching the ball for a guy his size. From their accounts, he's been the most consistent performer at TE in camp.
