Patriots Training Camp Day 11 (@ Philadelphia)

- And just like that... #Patriots Plays of Day: Brady to Thompkins deep pass TD, followed by Aaron Dobson in double coverage deep TD.

- #Patriots Dobson cannot be beat on those jump balls. Just did it again on a long sideline route, single coverage.

This is why I wanted a bigger, physical, more athletic WR. Should do wonders in the downfield passing game as well as the red zone if they "get it".

Sounds like Sud's will be starting for us at TE if Gronk isn't ready to go. Its sounds like he's well ahead of our other TE's.

Also, depite being lanky, Sudfeld is a good blocker. There is a video on Youtube where Sudfeld said the Nevada coaches won't even allow the TEs on the field unless they do a good job blocking. Basically the better you block, the more reps you get. I don't know if he's in Gronk's stratosphere when it comes to blocking, but Sudfeld has that blocking mentality.

Also, it's a shame Brandon Ford isn't playing really well, had hopes for him as well. He is more of an AHern type of TE, and led Clemson in receiving this year.

@MikeReiss: WR Aaron Dobson beats triple coverage for long ball catch from Tom Brady. Play of day so far. 6-foot-3 and leaping ability shows up.

Maybe for once we can have a crazy superbowl catch....

Last guy we had that could do that went to Marshall as well

From Matt Lombardo, a Philly sports talk radio host:

- Belichick: We've done music, they've done music but we figured yesterday it was better for practice not to have it.

- Belichick: This is good for all of us. It's a chance for us to work out against a good football team that we're not very familiar with.

- Belichick: They have a lot of good players. I felt like it was a competitive practice all across the board.

- Belichick: We put it to players & said 'it's either practice now or risk working in lightning and we're not doing that' they wanted to work.

- After Benn's injury, there are only nine wide receivers practicing for the #Eagles today.

- **** Vermeil is here at #Eagles practice today.

- #Eagles injuries: Nate Mankin (illness), Wang, Dixon, Peters, Kelly. Will not practice.

- Riley Cooper hauls it in during individuals.

- Russell Shepard burns Kyle Arrington and hauls in a touchdown on first one on one

- With all of the injuries at WR, I have to say Shepard stands the most to gain and has had a really strong camp.

- Jason Avant with a dirty double move before hauling in a touchdown.

- Damaris Johnson drops two punts so far.

- Vick out first with 7 on 7.

- TE Zach Ertz catches two straight touchdowns in 7 on 7.

- Foles hits Clay Harbor for a touchdown. Have to say, Harbor's been invisible this camp.

- Eagles CB Cary Williams, who has made it through a total of 2 practices, has already gone inside again.

- Vick sacked in 11 on 11.

- Chris Polk's strong camp continues.. The second-year back just busted another big run.

- Polk's running with the first team today

- Foles runs a zone read, passes it to Salas along the sidelines who was sprung for a big gain after nice block by Momah.

- Coleman and Allen out there with first team front 7, but it looks like the second-team secondary.

- Nice sliding catch by Zach Ertz on a pass by Foles.

- Polk runs up the gut for a 5-yard touchdown.

- Fletcher, Sims and Anderson break up a deep Brady pass to Amendola in the end zone.

- Chung breaks up a Mallet pass, but would probably have been pass interference.

- Vick flicks his wrist and fires one into DeSean Jackson over the middle in 11 on 11.

- Damaris Johnson seems to have disappeared. He was out there earlier and now he's not.

- Curtis Marsh just got toasted by Angel Johnson on a Brady TD pass. edit: I assume he meant Aaron Dobson, not Angel Johnson

- Brady is absolutely feasting on the Allen-Marsh combination in the secondary right now. I think this Tom Terrific guy may make it.

- Brady just makes it look easy. Boykin had no chance to breakup a pass along the sidelines.

- Tom Brady really is amazing to watch. The #Eagles secondary really hasn't stood much of a chance this period.

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
One clear trend from Brady: He's not afraid to let Dobson try to make a play. Dobson has earned it, too.

An old friend shows up...

Mike Reiss @MikeReiss
Eagles WR Greg Salas challenging Aaron Dobson for play of day with 1-handed long-ball grab down sideline vs. competitive Logan Ryan coverage

Erik Scalavino @E_Scal
FYI, #Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard has been a non-factor in this #Eagles joint practice. Hasn't been active since 1-on-1s. Appears injured.

At least if it is a minor injury, it happened early on in TC.

Tebow is out there lighting it up right now. Can't wait to see him dominate on Friday!

by Ben Volin via twitter 12:15 PM

Tebow actually making some nice throws in 11 on 11s, but against the #Eagles threes

The PFW guys, especially Andy Hart, have all said Fells is having a very good camp, looking extremely fluid catching the ball for a guy his size. From their accounts, he's been the most consistent performer at TE in camp.

I think Fells, Sudfeld AND Hooman are ALL having good camps. If Gronk isn't 100% healthy, Ballard may have a chance if they keep 4 TEs. But once Gronk comes back, sounds like Ballard would the the one let go. Fells didn't impress last season, partially due to injury, it's exciting to hear he's having a good camp. Hooman has made some nice catches during camp so far according to the tweets. I think we are going to be OK with Fells, Sudfeld and Hooman if Gronk misses some time. In fact, we should get some excellent production out of those 3.

Dobson and Sudfeld will make some excellent red-zone targets.

From Eagles' beat writer Dave Weinberg, of the Press of Atlantic City:

- I obviously don't know for sure, but my guess is Vick starts Fri. vs NE and Foles starts next game vs Carolina.

- Antonio Dixon, Jason Peters, Dennis Kelly not practicing today.

- Vince Wolfork looks like he just devoured an #Eagles offensive lineman.

- Riley Cooper is getting reps as a punt returner.

- Tom Brady's slicing up the #Eagles defense like the guy who works the deli counter at Produce Place in North Cape May.

- #Eagles CB Cary Williams, RB LeSean McCoy working on the side. LB Connor Barwin is back after missing yesterday with an illness.

- Rumor has it Cary Williams' new sconces arrived today.

- Poor Tim Tebow not getting any love today. He got no reps in 7 on 7 drills.

- I stand corrected Tim Tebow got on the field during 11 on 11 and handed off twice.

- Wow, Tom Brady threw an incompletion.

- Aspiring NFL referee Sarah Thomas is at the #Eagles practice with the Patriots today.

- Tom Brady is showing why he's the best in the game at the expense of the #Eagles secondary. Just awesome to watch.

- Brady is embarrassing the #Eagles much to the delight of the rest of the #Patriots on the sideline.

Eagles WR Greg Salas challenging Aaron Dobson for play of day with 1-handed long-ball grab down sideline vs. competitive Logan Ryan coverage

I knew we shoulda kept Salas ;-)

As far as Dobson, so glad he's earning Brady's trust already, even before the 1st preseason game, that's a great sign. Hell, Ochostinko couldn't earn Brady's trust even after 16 games.

Ben Volin ?@BenVolin 48s
The Legend of Sudfeld continues: Makes a one-handed, top-tapping catch in corner of end zone for a TD. Makes another toe-tapper on next play

No ... Adam Seward is a LEGEND.

Sounds like Dobson is going to be the red zone target we've been lacking on the outside.

I have to say, I'm salivating at the prospect of some jump ball TD's during the reg season.:singing: I REALLY miss that

If these new receivers get it and can contribute immeidately (this includes Sudfeld), the Patriots should at least have the number one red zone offense in the NFL. With a healthy Gronk, that's a lot of size. I won't go so far as to try to call the regular offense though.

Jeff Howe ?@jeffphowe 1m
Brady finished 20-of-26 in 11-on-11s.

Jimmy Kempski @JimmyKempski
Aaron Dobson play of the day. Readjusted, changing the shoulder he was looking over on deep ball... twice... Before making catch. Wow play.

And, just like that, it was over...

More from Mike Giardi:

- AJ Feeley in the house. He has a ridiculous looking mustache.

- (Q., re: what Bethel Johnson is up to these days) -- Still being a bad WR and generally not a nice person.

- On more than one occasion these last two days, you can almost see Jamie Collins thinking about where he's supposed to go instead of reacting.

- Meanwhile, watching Hightower, seeing him play looser, the benefit of a full year in system and proof it's not easy.

- Dobson is back, however the 11-on-11's have turned into the Tom Brady to Danny Amendola drill

- Talib has spent a lot of time pumping Thompkin's tires.

- At some point today, Edelman might be wise to stop worrying about getting a call from the ref and just catch the football

- Dobson just went up and caught a bomb with two defenders draped all over him.

- Play prior, Thompkins splits defense and goes to the house.

- Dobson then drops a crossing route. #jinx

- Dobson not open on sideline go and still reels in pass from Brady with corner in his hip pocket

- Talib runs down the sidelines after Thompkins makes a catch along sidelines. Loves him some Thompkins and loves him same trash talking.

- McCourty and Hightower talking up and celebrating with Dobson and Thompkins as well. That was fun.

- Greg Salas with a one-handed snag of a deep ball. Logan Ryan was right there.

- Boyce has gone silent today.

Clearly there is no difference between these two duos.

Chris Mortensen ?@mortreport 15h
Take on Patriots-Eagles practice: Tom Brady is still great. In all drills (1-on-1, 7-on-7, 11-on-11) he was 44-for-48 #goodluckAFCEast

More from Mike Reiss:

- Bill Belichick likes joint practices because it forces players & coaches to adjust on the fly. Today another example.

- Rookie WR Aaron Dobson was held out of 2nd half of Tuesday's practice after scrap w/ Cary Williams. Today, limited early. Staying w/ trainer.

- With WR Aaron Dobson, looked like it might have been something related to his calf. Doesn't appear overly serious, but keeping him out 4 now.

- WR Aaron Dobson shakes things off and returns to practice.

- After error on long ball on Tuesday, second-year safety Tavon Wilson looks like he is losing reps to rookie Duron Harmon today.

- WR Aaron Dobson beats triple coverage for long ball catch from Tom Brady. Play of day so far. 6-foot-3 and leaping ability shows up.

- After making big catch, Aaron Dobson can't haul in pass from Brady (borderline drop but not easy). Then comes back w/ beauty on sideline.

- Not comparing A. Dobson to R. Moss, but haven't seen this size on outside 4 Pats, & ability to win competitive-catch situations, since Moss.

- Some ups and downs for rookie WRs today, but Dobson & Kenbrell Thompkins both spark "oohs" & "aahs" from teammates with tough catches.

- Eagles WR Greg Salas challenging Aaron Dobson for play of day with 1-handed long-ball grab down sideline vs. competitive Logan Ryan coverage.

- Overall, would say this wasn't as sharp of a practice for the Patriots. They set a high bar Tuesday.

- Talib runs down the sidelines after Thompkins makes a catch along sidelines. Loves him some Thompkins and loves him same trash talking.

Love me some good citizen Talib. Seems to be fitting in pretty well with the team, which is encouraging.
