Wilfork?
McCourty?
Ridley?
Solder?

I think vince. I think all of them will get deal..but vince will be the next one IMO

I think they all will, Vince will probably happen first.

Didn't Vince just get one like 2 years ago? I think McCourty will probably be next.

in 2010..5 year 40 mill. But i can see them giving him another to lessen cap hit. 10.6 mill cap hit this season i think. Extend him so we can drop that down

Jake Bequette.

I expect Wilfork to sign a 2 year extension either during the 2013 season or in the upcoming offseason, I see it being a 3 year contract that reworks his 2014 cap figure. I think they will extend McCourty and Solder in this coming offseason as well likely for 5 years each, placing them in the top 10 of player at their positions.

Ridley I do not think they will offer an extension to and probably let him test the free agent market; unless he takes his game to the next level of becoming an elite RB verses being a very good RB that he is now.

I do think they will let Ninkovich walk after the season, and potentially Spikes as well. Ninkovich not so much based on his play but more about us having a number of players entering contract seasons in the next 2-3 years. Honestly having Hernandez off the books for 2015 and beyond is actually a plus in an otherwise ****ty situation.

Thread title says long term deal. Vince isn't getting a long term deal, Solder or McCourty would be the guys I'd go with.

Vince-extension to lessen cap hit
McCourty-hopefully he can be extended for a decent amount
Solder-too early
Ridley-yeah right

I think that the next player to get a long term deal will be Ryan Wendell.

With the exception of Brandon Spikes, none of the other players mentioned thus far will be a free agent after this season. That means that the Patriots have a longer time period to work something out with those other players; that is not the case with Wendell.

Unless you are comfortable with Wendell walking, it makes sense that he would be next. If that is the case, then who is his replacement? Back to Connolly, who will be 32 at the start of next season?

As far as Spikes goes, the writing is on the wall for him. With early picks being used on two linebackers in the last two drafts the Pats are willing to let him walk in free agency next spring.

For what it is worth, here is a list of players on the Pats roster whose contracts expire next March:

Aqib Talib
Rob Ninkovich
Zoltan Mesko
Michael Hoomanawanui
Leon Washington
Ryan Wendell
Jermaine Cunningham
Brandon Spikes
Will Svitek
Julian Edelman
LaGarrette Blount
Jake Ballard
Marcus Benard
Dane Fletcher
Niko Koutouvides
Marquice Cole
Michael Jenkins
Danny Aiken
Jeff Tarpinian
Kevin Haslam
Mike Rivera
A.J. Edds

everyone else is secondary to them.

J do foresee the Patriots using the franchise on any player(s) in the upcoming seasons?

Also good call on Ryan Wendell; I personally overlooked him until you mentioned him.

he can be had for cheap...so i hope he stays as well...only good for running downs as he sucks against the pass...but very good against the run

ironically I TOO can be had for cheap...I suck at making passes but I'm good fixing runs in nylons....

Agreed, but McCourty has 2 yrs left and Solder has at least 2 yrs with a possibility of a 3rd IIRC; so I don't see either one of them needing to be dealt with prior to next spring/summer at the earliest.

I agree with jmt57 that it could be Wendell, but I also think they want to see him perform at a very high level again first this upcoming season.

In the meantime, Wilfork could also be extended for another couple of yrs for sure.

Hell, a player like Ninkovich is a possibility--although the money won't be anything too outrageous of course. Ninkovich is one of those guys who Belichick really seems to admire in many ways in terms of his work ethic, love for football, and general attitude. He also brings some versatility to the front seven. I wouldn't be surprised if Rob Ninkovich were retained myself.

Mayo = Belichick Jr

McCourty = Belichick Jr Jr

I seriously doubt it.

Wendell won't be tagged because the franchise tag value used by the NFL lumps all offensive linemen together; that would put him in the same price tier as the league's best left tackles. That was $9.4 million last year; there is no way the Pats will pay him that much.

The only real possibility of the franchise tag being used by the Patriots next year is with Talib, but I think one of two things will happen: he has a good year, which will make him too expensive for the Patriots; or, he doesn't have that great a year, in which case the Pats won't want him back. As a point of reference the franchise tag for corners was $10.6 million this past year.

After Wendell's deal is taken care of the Pats can then turn their attention to a more important extension: Nate Solder.

McCourty is my bet, Spikes is gone, he is going to want much more money than they will ever pay him. I think Ninkovich re-signs.
