Armond Armstead

This is all true. If we have no injuries and an improved Jones, this would be make for a major upgrade to DL production. I think that most here underestimate Kelly. We're OK if he is just another Love. However, I think that he is much more.

They all need not improve to be better than last year. Just Jones improving will do it for me. And, should Bequette and Hightower continue to improve as they appear to be doing, then it's gravy.

I have no doubt that TK is a VAST improvement over Love as the starter alongside Vince.

As for backups, flip a coin on who's better ...... Deaderick/Brace or Armstead/Forston.

We need to pray for the continued health of Wilfork and Kelly.

I agree. I like our DL starters, but depth is lacking. Of course, we COULD have zero injuries, and a couple of the backups could step up.

At DL, we have Jones, Wilfork, Kelly and Ninkovich and no reliable backups.

I couldn't agree more, DT depth is my biggest concern on the team overall.

Just like our offense is built around Brady our defense is built around Wilfork, the entire scheme is designed around his ability to line up in the 1 or 0 technique and take on the left guard and center leaving the RE 1on1 with the LT, the 3 technique DT 1on1 with RG, and the LE/LOLB 1on1 against the RT. Without Wilfork I don't think we could use these lighter more athletic players at DT or as a 3-4 DE.

So when you take all that into consideration it's disastrous not having a viable backup behind Wilfork.

I gave myself a start earlier today when I saw this thread title and thought it said, "Armond Arrested." :bricks:

We're a Wilfork injury away from having a potentially top 10 defense to being a bottom 25 for sure. That's scary to think. Wilfork has been holding up so well, let's hope he can keep doing it. We do need someone to spell him and Kelly though. We can't have Wilfork out there for such a high percentage of snaps again.

IF TK has anything left in the tank..its going to be hell to pay in the middle. TK is 6'6" and 330 lbs....thats a big man next to VW. The middle is going to be clogged up/collapsing fast and if Jones and and Jamie Collins get 1 on 1 coverage.....the opposing QB is going to take some shots...as I see Jones even better prepared this year and JC being an athletic freak wild card that teams may have to account for......

Agreed. The Wilfork factor is an enormous concern that I think a lot of fans overlook just due to his consistency. Should he go down for a handful of games or even worse, we'd be in a lot of trouble.

I think it's a fairly safe assumption that Belichick may be looking at some roster cuts in a few weeks, or at least I would hope so.

The[insert ten any of ten players] factor is an enormous concern that I think a lot of fans overlook just due to his consistency.

fans aren't "overlooking" anything...fans look FORWARD, at least the fans I know...and if/when a key player goes down, THEN they think about it...meanwhile, In Belechick I Trust...I know a ton of posters here HATE that particular thought but for me, personally, it saves on a lot of UNNECESSARY "what if??!!" stress...."ENORMOUS" concern?...drama class is paying dividends I see...

It might entail rebuilding a long bridge, but I would not mind Seymour back for a year.

Far from the worst idea.

1. I don't think its his 1st preference.
2. I think he wants to get paid.

Thats without even wondering if BIll wants to do it.

NOPE, not I.

he probably still has the skills; but we just unloaded a couple of guys (on the DL and wr) who supposedly still had (lesser) skills but didnt have the right attitude in the locker room.

no matter how much bridge-building BB did; at the first adversity that attitude would come back out from Sey and would impact on the youngsters.

you can argue that he helped sell T Kelly on coming to NE and so he still has some respect-admiration for NE that you could build-bridge on.

But I suspect EITHER:
when he told him about NE he also said 'they are all business' and not going to 'give out a fat paycheck for no work'. That last (hypothetical) part is what makes him in his declining years (IMO) a MAJOR SUSPECT to decline-fast.
OR he just plain feels disrespected by NE by trade last go-round and would never-ever want to look like a whipped-dog coming home w/ his tail between his legs.

Either way - both parties have little reason to want to make that happen. Even if a bunch of fans would like the reunion tour.
