If you have visited my cap page you know that I used Public Report - NFLPlayers.com as a marker to see how far off my numbers are from the official numbers. For the longest time my numbers have been off by $1,000. The difference would change as the Patriots would sign/release players but eventually the difference would go back to 1K as that the effect of the signing/releas would officially hit the cap.Today Donald Jones was no longer appearing on that report so I expected the difference to go back to $1,000. It did not. The difference was $83,000. Well, AH's offseason workout bonus money was $82K. If I count it, the difference between my numbers and the official numbers goes back to $1,000.

Miguel I was curious, with the patriots not paying Hernandez as reported, will his cap number still count against us in 2014?

As of now, AH counts $7.5 million against the 2014 cap. Could it change? Yes.

I don't know how you can sleep at night.

(kidding, it is good to have you hanging around here again.)

Miguel, you missed a fine career in physics where you could measure the infinitesimal tiny mass of the neutrino to 6 decimal places

Thanks man! One more question for the expert; is there a way to prevent it from counting?

Yes, Roger Goodell could decide to wipe the cap hit from the Patriots books. Otherwise, I expect that Aaron would fight to keep his bonus money which would delay any credit to the Patriots cap.

Ok thank you for taking the time to answer my questions Miguel, very much appreciated!

Miguel I hear that the Patriots are going to stop Hernandez from getting another dime. Has it been done before to another NFL Player who had guaranteed money? if not how can it be done? How hard will it be to accomplish?

It is not hard to do. AH was given a $12.5 million signing bonus as part of his extension. It was supposed to be paid out in 3 parts
$6 million in July 2012
$3.25 million in March 2013
another $3.25 million in March 2014.

I expect that the Pats will not write AH that $3.25 million check next March and he will fight for it.

As of today, the difference between my numbers and the NFLPA's continues to be $83,000 which leads me to believe that the NFLPA is counting AH's 82K offseason workout bonus money against the Patriots cap.

I would presume thats all matter of course though. Until this whole sorry mess is cleaned up they are going through the motions.

Does that mean the Patriots recently paid AH the bonus?

No, it just means that I think that the NFLPA is counting the 82K against the Patriots cap. I do know that the NFLPA has recently reviewed offseason workout bonuses to see if the salaries should be adjusted.

so I think that the NFLPA reviewed AH's offseason workout bonus and decided that it should still count against the Patriots cap.

If you need me, I'll be over here holding my breath.

Oh, I just noticed that can be read as snark to Miguel. The snark is aimed at Goodell. Miguel is cool.
