Christiancat, maybe you can answer this question then.. What has Ryan Mallett done to deserve Tim's jersey #?... He hasn't played 1 gm. in the NFL... In College, he was a drug abuser who lost head-to-head everytime he played against Tim TeBow.. It would be like Favre coming to a team where a back-up already had the #4... My feeling is that the Pats will move Mallett before the season begins... Then Tim will get his rightful # back...hopefully... God Bless

In the end, the actual 2 PT Conversion rate for the Broncos with Tebow under center was 75%. With as many touchdowns as the Brady-led Pats tally each year (averaging 57 TD's / yr in 2007/9/10/11/12). With a 2 PT Conv % of 65% or 75%, the Pats could score an extra 1 to 2 points per game (see the table I put together below). It would be an option to consider.

I'm rather leery of trying to extrapolate from n = 4 to n > 50.

If you told me that he had succeeded on, say, 15 of 20, that'd be a very different matter.

I like Tim and support Tim. However, Ryan Mallett already had that number and was on the team prior to Tim, so I am okay with Mallett taking #15. I'll just be happy to see Tim make the roster, get some playing time, learn a little under Brady, and later in the season possibly start a few games. Why make a big deal about Mallett keeping his jersey number?

That's the thing Christiancat.... Guys like us have no problem supporting the Pats... It's the inherently incumbent liberal Pats fans who are the ones that just can't stand Tim deep down... Probably mainly because of his morals and values... God Bless

I like Tim Tebow. Great college QB, entertaining to watch, high character. What's not to like? I don't like the fact you make every thread about him. Also liking a player doesn't equate to him deserving a job he hasn't earned and isn't capable of performing.

I really like Michael Buchanan, followed him throughout college and have high hopes for him at the NFL level. Despite that you will not find one post of mine stating we need to get him on the field in place of Jones or Ninkovich, he deserves a spot on the 53 man rosters the than Jake Bequette, or the fact that my beloved Michael Buchanan dropped to the 7th round over one fight is comparable to the hanging of ************.

If the final spot on the 53 man roster is between Michael Buchanan and Tim Tebow, Buchanan will win that spot in part because BB is not going to want to risk losing Buchanan to another team in an effort to have him on the practice squad.

Why make a big deal of it?... Because IMO it's just another one of the many slap to the faces Tim has had to endure while in the NFL... And i'm sick and tired of being told to move to the back of the bus and sit down and shut up.. Would Brett Favre not get his #4 if a back-up had it prior?...I have no problem with Tim being Tom's backup... But there is no way Tim should be behind that druggie Mallett on the depth chart... No way, no how... God Bless

Stripping Tim of his # 15 would be like stripping Brett Favre of his #4 jersey.. It's just not right... That's how Tim is identified... It's like stripping him of his identity, and then putting a star on his back to differentiate him from his new teammates... It's just not right... And Ryan Mallett has done nothing to deserve that # other than sit on the bench and abuse coke and weed..Truth hurts... God Bless

You should be ashamed of yourself a supposed man of god degrading another human being in the public in an effort to get his jersey number. Wow! What religion are you? Because I missed this lesson in my Sunday school.

Adrian Wilson a 13 year veteran, hall of fame caliber player came here and had to buy his #24 from Arrington for a lifetime supply of diapers. But we should just hand over 15 to Tim Tebow?

Go to the back of the bus. You weren't welcome at the ESPN boards and you aren't welcome over here. I don't even know why you came over here. You knew that we weren't going to put up with your act over here.

Why don't you go hang out at the Yahoo Patriots Message Board.

Brady6 I agree with you and I sent you a friends request.

The only cat whose religion I know was a Muslim. Good friend neighbors from Iran both worked so their cat Shangool (Farsi for Happy) would hang out in our backyard gardens. Made friends with my wife who previously did not like meowsers. You'll be happy to know that this Muslim cat loved celebrating Christmas in our house, nesting in crumpled wrapping paper and attacking ribbons and bows before falling asleep in the chair in front of the Christmas tree.

cool story.

Cat Stevens slept over at your house??...wha???

I'd be fine with spending this season and next deciding on the long-term backup to Brady. It would good for the team to give Tebow or Mallett a long-term contract before the 2014 season starts.

Yes, Tebow and Mallett are signed for only two years. One can hope that one will be traded and one will be extended.

Of course, neither really wants to be a backup for the next four years.

I agree I'd like to see us have a long term backup QB in place.

I would hope that, if that was the case Tim would be chosen. Buchanan has a chance to be picked up after being dropped. Tim doesn't have as good of a chance of being picked up at the moment if dropped because of how bad the NY Jets devalued Tim as a player and made him out to be this bad player when he wasn't. Josh McDaniels likes Tim alot and even drafted him in the first round. Therefore, I think if McDaniels gets his way Tim will make the roaster.

Read what you just wrote. Buchanan would be picked up if he was dropped by the Patriots. We all know that Tebow will not be picked up. Buchanan's ceiling as a pass rusher is far higher than Tebow as a quarterback and that should tell you something in comparing a rookie 7th round draft pick to TeBlow.

No need to put him in or on the roaster.. I'm sure he'd accept his release over that.

I think Buchanan would be scooped up by another team within hours. He was a 3rd round talent.

Nice analysis.

Thanks sb1.
I just don't see this team making a switch like that, I don't think they have the personnel... but I do think someone will try it eventually. It's kind of like a no punt offense. Mathematically it's probably advantageous but realistically? Hard to say.

Completely Agree. It would take a team & coaching commitment, major cojones and the unwavering support from the owner to do it. *** Kind of the definition of Belichick, Kraft and the Patriots in general ***
On a side note it's hard to dig really deep into numbers in football because there's so many different variables in a team sport like this. That's why nobody has come up with a SABR system like you see in baseball. Football is such a team sport and there's so many different types of match-ups which happen all at once, compared to baseball which is a chain of 1 on 1 match ups....

You're dead on, completely agree with you on this one. It's difficult to climb into a pile of stats and really know what transpired on each play. But, they are what they are and they do help. We've seen some new stats that seem to show some embedded intelligence and getting better (ie. Passer Rating > QBR > Real QBR). I'd like to see more of these context-based stats continue to grow.

If he was 3rd round talent someone would have taken him in the 3rd or 4th.
He is a longshot to make an NFL roster.

I know what I wrote. Because of how bad the NY jets devalued Tim and made him out to be this incompetent player. He most likely won't get picked up if dropped by the Pats at this point in time. Not because Tim is a bad player, but rather because the NY Jets messed up Tim reputation as a football player. Tim now has a chance to revive his career with the Pats. Don't refer to Tebow as Teblow, that is mean and disrespectful.
