I've been watching Hard Knocks from 2008 (Cowboys version), and just watching that show, you find it hard not to root for the kid. He has such a passion for the game, and is such a hard worker, and he's loyal to his team. He didn't make the final cut down of 53, but that season, the Cowboys were hoping to have him on the practice squad. He could have signed for the Eagles and other teams for more money, but he turned them down to stay with the Cowboys. Also you could see Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips loved him. Obviously long story short, it didn't work out for Amendola in Dallas, but you can see he is a high character guy.

I feel very fortunate to have a player like that starting for our team. I hope he has a great career for the Pats. It's easy to root for a guy like him.

He's already scored points here with his pledge to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. And his self-effacing commercial is pretty damn funny.

By the way, I saw an interview with that Waz Wakler guy from Denver on NFLN yesterday. He was talking about his place with the Broncos and how the team is "rounding into shape" like he's been there 10 years. Odd how his hair looks fake.

The guy was a great addition to this team while he was here. Why take shots at him now?

I was really impressed with his playing style before he came here. I planned to watch a few Rams games last season and was watching the game when he was injured. It is awesome to have him here. I dont buy the injury bug thing in his case. We'll see how it goes. Patriots Today - Amendola in New England

Uh ... because he's no longer here? And because some idiots are taking shots at Amendola because he IS here? And because Waxler will be coming to Foxboro trying to beat the Patriots this season? And because Wax would still be here if he wasn't asleep at the wheel? And because he's now an ally of El Grande Forehead? And because his hair really does look fake?

Nice summary.

Cuz' it is.

I remember seeing him in a few preseason games for the cowboys. Always rooted for the guy. Funny that he's now in a position to put up some big numbers with Tom ******* Brady

I'm rooting for him. We'll see in time if it was worth to downgrade to someone 80% of Welker's ability that's injury prone but 5 years younger.

Welker's Patriot Average:

112 receptions 1,243 yards 6 TDs 11ypc

Amendola 2012 pro-rated 16 games:

92 receptions 969 yards 4 TDs 10.5ypc

Show any post of anyone taking shots at Amendola? It hasn't happened. Welker played like a Hall of Fame player and took shots like nobody else and kept going when no one else could have. The hate on him is absolutely ridiculous. Honestly i am surprised it's coming from you because i have always considered you one of the more intelligent posters in this forum and the hate has come primarily from the ******s here.

Oh, yes it has. There's a contingent here that already has written him off as "made of glass." Surprised you haven't seen them.

My jousts are all tongue in cheek. You are correct and I loved Welker. But he definitely dropped the ball (pun intended) in (A.) not signing the more lucrative deal a year ago to remain a Patriot and (B.) falling asleep and letting his agent lead him astray in free agency. I don't hate the guy, but I don't exactly wish him great success in Denver.

It's not so much made of glass, it's skeptics stating Welker was the only one capable of doing what Welker did on a game after game after game after game after game after (oh, you get wat ima sayin') basis.
an' isn't it sasposta be El Forehead Grande, Tuneescribir?

NFL Free Agency Rumors: Latest on Danny Amendola, Sean Smith and More | Bleacher Report

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zgMYTaYWcE

We are very lucky to have Danny Amendola. Above is a link that shows an article on his FA value before we signed him. And another video that shows Marcellus Wiley and Dez Bryant picking him over Wes, and these are fellow players and peers of him. Not only that, but he is an extremely high character guy, team guy, mentally tough, and very talented. Total package, if can shake off injury bug. Smooth in and out of his routes, footwork, pure hands, nice speed, and excellent field quickness.

I'm excited to see him this season. With a QB like Brady throwing to him, he's bound to put up good numbers and move the ball.

So with the upgrade to Brady from Bradford, we should expect ~2,000 yards this season?

I think it'll be the same deal with Amendola that is was with Lloyd; he was the teams obvious #1 option on the Rams and won't be with the Pats so the #s should be accurate, even with the upgrade of Bradford to Brady.

2011 Lloyd (with Orton, Bradford, Feeley, etc): 70 receptions 966 yards 5 TDs
2012 Lloyd (with the GOAT, super legend, TFB): 74 receptions 911 yards 4 TDs

2011 Lloyd: Option 1
2012 Lloyd: Option 4

2012 Amendola: Option 1
2013 Amendola: Option 3

I'm not expecting Amendola to be option 1A/1B like Wes was here, I may be wrong though.

Yes I was watching Hard Knocks Dallas 08 edition and thought the same thing. There is a lot to like in him: skills, attitude, work ethic, loyalty. I didn't want to lose Wes but Danny is much better than just a consolation prize. I doubt that he will reach the amazing numbers that 83 did in his career in New England, but then he doesn't have to be Wes, he just has to be the best Danny can be, and having TB at QB will help.

I also have to believe that Wes at the Sign of the Prancing Pony will not put up the same numbers he did for the Patriots. Those hits were beginning to take their toll, he wasn't quite as quick at breaking cover, and those over the head shots were becoming more of a problem, each contributing to his rising drop rate. Peyton will squeeze the last bit of juice from the orange with Wes, but I have doubts as to whether it will be more than one season or two at the most.

Danny on the other hand has everything to look forward to. I am as excited as anyone to see what he can produce. I just hope we as a fan base as well as the media circus don't place impossible expectations on his back.

Wes was a model citizen as a Patriot, a fan favorite, a teammate favorite, and was always supporting local charities.

This ridiculous hatred of him because he isn't Jerry Rice is absolutely insane. The Patriots tried to lowball him after he played nice, didn't hold out, and did his dues. This compared to Mankins and even Wilfork where those two held out, and what happened? They got their money. Wes didn't hold out, he signed the tender, and got lowballed.

This isn't Ray Allen where he took less money and a lesser role to go ring chase on the hated Heat. The rivalry between Brady and Peyton has always been respectful and they are even close friends. Welker took more money and likely a bigger role to go play for a championship calibre team.

Stop trying to hate on him. He did absolutely nothing wrong. If anything he went far beyond what he owed to the team and really should have just held out. I was sure we were going to end up signing him because of how terrible a precedent Mankins/Welker set.

Patriots are basically saying: you hold out, we'll cave and pay you. If you be a good soldier and sacrifice long term security for the team we are going to nickel and dime you for all we can and completely shaft you in payment for your good faith.

I mean, I think schematically Welker was a terrible fit and am fine with him leaving, but trying to act like he's the villain? Really? GTFO.

He's getting paid more in Denver.
He's going to be the #1a/#1b option with D. Thomas
He'd be the #3 option here in New England
He got completely shafted and lowballed by the FO after he took a leap of good faith and was bitter

Welker was completely in his rights to do what he did, and I don't blame him for one second.

He did fall asleep in free agency. He just should have held out like Mankins did, because playing hard ball is clearly the only way to get paid the contract he wanted.

It's not that Krafts are cheap, just BB plays to win, not for sentiment. Welker trusted the Patriots too much and got shafted for it. It's not like he held out and demanded a trade to the Broncos. He took more money, more years, and a bigger role playing for a championship contender.

I don't think he got shafted. I think the pats moved because as much as many hate it, winning a championship doesn't mean we need welker. Welker wasn't clutch, he couldn't carry the team when needed. Welker is a good little player, but he wasn't the right for for New England for a championship.
