I read your entire post the first time. The team's "coverage" LB was hurt early last year. He's back. Even if he's not capable of getting the job done, taking one in round 2 was completely unecessary.
We had a need for a pass rusher and a need for a coverage LB. We killed two birds with one stone. Not sure why we should be unhappy with that.
swope goes to cards
I assume you're referring to Dane Fletcher. I like him as much as the next guy but he's played a total of 23 games in 3 seasons and he hasn't been THAT impressive in coverage. Also Fletcher's measurables are no where near Jamie Collins'. I sure do hope Fletcher can stay healthy though, that would be a huge bonus.
You take the safety instead of the LB, and then you trade up in round 3 to get over the Steelers. They had the 4th, multiple 7ths and low round picks next year that they could have offered.
Cards having a nice draft. Nothing in stone because Mathieu needs to keep clean. But on paper they look pretty good.
NFC West had a great weekend.
You're proposing not one but two trades ups when we only had 5 (technically 3 since you can't count the obvious picks you have to include in the trade up) total picks? Could you imagine if we only drafted three players?
such crap
The 2007 team was one of the very best in the history of the nil.
Belichick used 2 draft picks in 2007 to secure Welker and Moss.
I guess Belichick didn't do well enough putting that team together. If that's true, no one since the beginning of the common draft has done so.
I think I've been pretty clear on the why.
How did he do in the 2006 draft? The 07 team lacked depth in critical areas, that's why it failed in the end.
