How do we move up for Hopkins? We had a whopping 4 other picks at that point.

You take the safety instead of the LB, and then you trade up in round 3 to get over the Steelers. They had the 4th, multiple 7ths and low round picks next year that they could have offered.

And swope is gone. Cant believe darick is still up there.

I read your entire post the first time. The team's "coverage" LB was hurt early last year. He's back. Even if he's not capable of getting the job done, taking one in round 2 was completely unecessary.

I assume you're referring to Dane Fletcher. I like him as much as the next guy but he's played a total of 23 games in 3 seasons and he hasn't been THAT impressive in coverage. Also Fletcher's measurables are no where near Jamie Collins'. I sure do hope Fletcher can stay healthy though, that would be a huge bonus.

swope goes to cards

We had a need for a pass rusher and a need for a coverage LB. We killed two birds with one stone. Not sure why we should be unhappy with that.

I think I've been pretty clear on the why.

50 more picks I think.

I'm not arguing the player. That's a waste of time around here. People here defended Chung until late this past year, for crying out loud.

You're proposing not one but two trades ups when we only had 5 (technically 3 since you can't count the obvious picks you have to include in the trade up) total picks? Could you imagine if we only drafted three players?

My guess for next Patriots pick: Reid Fragel (converted from TE), OT

6'8" 308lbs !

The departure of both of Ohio State’s starting tackles from the 2011 season forced Buckeyes coaches to look for answers at those crucial spots. It was no surprise that they picked Fragel to move inside from his blocking tight end role last spring, and during the offseason his frame easily added the weight necessary to play in the Big Ten. He then went on to start all 12 games at right tackle for the Buckeyes during his senior year.

Fragel was a Detroit all-metro pick as a senior, and played every game his first three years in Columbus. After playing on special teams as a true freshman, he started five games in 2010, catching nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown against Iowa. Fragel started four games in his junior year, but continued to be mostly used as a blocker in the run game (five receptions, 64 yards) for a team lacking a great passing offense.

It's one trade up. I mistakenly typed Hopkins when I meant Dobson.

Doh there goes Quessenberry.

such crap

The 2007 team was one of the very best in the history of the nil.

Belichick used 2 draft picks in 2007 to secure Welker and Moss.

I guess Belichick didn't do well enough putting that team together. If that's true, no one since the beginning of the common draft has done so.

How did he do in the 2006 draft? The 07 team lacked depth in critical areas, that's why it failed in the end.

This may not be a good draft but there is a lot of draftable safety talent compared to most years... last season Josh Evans would have been a day 2 pick by a team that needs a safety imo.

But now the team is drafting for depth, people are still moaning.

Too many fans of this team expect them to field elite players all the way down to the bottom of the roster.
