Likely Receiving core: What do you think?

No Sanders means they really need to go WR twice in the first 3 rounds.

The weaknesses are Jones and Jenkins.

That's the problem..them and say 2 rookies..Just a waste IMO especially given the health issues with Edelman, Gronk and Ahern. I know they can't do much anymore this year besides the draft..but hopefully they turn into a running team to shoulder the Jones/jenkins issue

Maybe BB will make a phone call to his buddy Chip Kelly, and see if something could be worked out for Maclin.

This is a strange way to pay back Brady for signing a hugely discounted contract.

This team currently has one starting WR, and he can't stay on the field.

A trade is a strong consideration. Problem is that BB has painted himself into a corner in that he has shown his cards, so it will be difficult to find "value" in the trade market.

It is indeed...don't really get it but oh well. like DI said..this team has 1 starting WR...that's it...

Yep, he's going to have to pull a rabbit out of his ass now to get their WR corps where it needs to be before the season starts, they really needed Sanders and a good pick to make it adequate. depending upon who is there i would be fine with them going WR in the first two rounds and addressing their other needs through free agency. they can still get CB's, DL, and OG in free agency, there is nothing left at WR.

I'm sure BB has a contingency plan in the event the steelers matched the offer...

No way they start the year with this group, and a rookie or 2 at the position.

Something is on the way.... there has to be.

It's looking increasingly like two wideouts in the first three rounds.

May I remind you and others that Wes Welker's uniform would fit me perfectly. My football nom de plume "Mano a piedra"

I can bet now this is what will happen. It may be a rough year at the WR position...

Hell i don't even think jenkins will make the team.

Maybe we can run 4-5 TE sets?

The whole situation is confusing. If you felt Emmanuel was good enough to trade a 3rd rounder for, is it really too much to offer 1 year 4 million instead of 1 year 2.5 million?

the low # shows that they were undecided with him or didn't think he was worth $4 mill..i guess.

Which is kindof dumb since we were willing to give up a 3rd for him. Whatever time to move on.

I'll post what I did a couple months back:

Justin Blackmon:

64 receptions 865 yards 5 TDs

Kendall Wright:

64 receptions 626 yards 4 TDs

Josh Gordon:

50 receptions 805 yards 5 TDs

T.Y Hilton:

50 receptions 861 yards 7 TDs

Chris Givens:

42 receptions 698 yards 3 TDs

Rod Streater (UDFA):

39 receptions 584 yards 3 TDs

Michael Floyd:

45 receptions 562 yards 2 TDs

If we can find the right rookie WR, there is no doubt he can be an impact starter for us. Let's just hope we find the right one.

I can't really do your post justice, so I'll just say.....

Yep.

I agree. If they find the right one. I just hope they don't pull a chad jackson out of the hat or price. They never draft good at the WR position. But we can all agree....this O is a downgrade from last year so far

If the patriots thought that Sanders is worth a 1-year $4M deal plus a 3rd, then they would have offered it. If the patriots REALLY had an agreement in principle for a long-term deal, then Belichick would have offered $4M for a 1-year, and then restructured.

What you see is what is true. The patriots thought that Sanders was worth $2.5M and a 3rd. The steelers decided to match the offer instead of drafting a WR in the 3rd and save $2M on this year's cap.

Agreed, unless we somehow get a rookie Anquan Boldin or rookie Randy Moss season.

Just a couple of thoughts some of which I'm sure have already been posted. The offense absolutely needs someone to be a threat outside of the hashes. That does not necessarily HAVE to new a deep vertical burner. I know we all harp on the safeties creeping up and forcing them back with deep throws BUT if the offense had a receiver that could consistently get open on 10-15 yard outs comebacks etc etc the horizontal threat would open up some more spacing in the middle of the field (grammar police: I am aware that is a run on sentence I simply don't care). Previous to Moss the Patriots never had a real vertical threat on the outside but did have guys outside who could get open.

Secondly the run game could hide a lot of warts. At first blush I think the ground game is solid. My problem with it was I don't think in watching games other teams fully respected it and the Patriots never fully committed to it. I'm not sure if it was the quick snap pace that made it feel gimmicky but when they absolutely need to choke out games it sure seemed like the run game was lacking. I think we have the players on the roster to make that commitment. Will McDaniels?

Thirdly I don't see how bashing Wes Welker has any place in this discussion. Guy was a warrior period. I'm sad he's gone but such is life in the NFL.

Lastly if taken apart individually the receivers are certainly not as accomplished but as a group can they be as productive? I think definitely maybe.

Yeah. Waste of time. Steelers has just "matched" the offer, so Sanders stays as a Steeler.

It is quite dopey, in term of Patriots decision making. 3m/yr I believe would have made him a Patriot.

Most folks feel Patriots should be a WR in the draft. Well, Patriots has wasted plenty of picks on BAD picks. Would it not be better to get someone you know can run routes, than rolling the dice again? What if the draft pick goes bust? With Gronk probably out for awhile, and Ballard is still recovering, we are not in a very good position, in WRs...
