Wo Where Are We Now: Draft Direction?

Draft direction:

Wide Receiver - Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins, give me a break

Cornerback - Glass-IR Dowling, need I say more

Safety - not sold on a 30 year old Steve Gregory or a 33 year old Adrian Wilson

Defensive End - Jake "riding the pine" Bequette, Jermaine "adderall" Cunningham, Marcus "motorcycle accident" Benard, Jason "CFL" Vega

You seem to cite all the things that are wrong but nothing that is right.

I cited the positions where upgrades are required on the New England Patriots roster:

Offense
Wide Receiver(s)

Defense
Cornerback
Defensive End
Safety

The defensive tackle position could use a refresh as well.

Tippett - I just want to go on record that you were one of my favorite players. With that said, you are focused on the wrong positions that are in need of an upgrade, particularly at defensive end and defensive tackle.

The Pats are pretty strong at those two spots. I don't know of many teams that would be unsatisfied with Wilfork, Jones, Ninkovich, Love, Kelly, Armstead, Francis, Forston, Cunningham, Bequette, Deadrick, Pryor, Vega, and Robertson. That is 14 guys competing for 9-10 roster spots on a 53-man gameday roster.

Never mind the fact, that Ninkovich, Armstead, Forston, Cunningham, and possibly Robertson being able to play more than one defensive position.

With Sanders likely coming here, they can afford to utilize a late round pick on a wide receiver project (i.e. Courtney Gardner or Brice Butler), get a 4th linebacker who competes for snaps against Spikes/Hightower with better coverage skills (Arthur Brown) and a cornerback who competes for snaps against Dowling and to a lesser extent Talib and Dennard.

Zero sacks in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Emmanuel Sanders has yet to catch a pass from Tom Brady in a regular season game.

Dowling is more likely to land on injured reserve than contribute for 16 regular season games. In two NFL seasons, Dowling has been on the field for a total of 8 games.

That is all that you have to say? How many quarterback pressures did the Pats have in the game? Do you know?

How banged up was the defensive line entering the playoffs? Do you remember?

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

All I know was Joe Flacco had all day to throw the football.

Which speaks to the lack of quality depth on the New England Patriots defensive line.

It appears your expectations are that our backups be starting caliber. It's hard to give your opinion much weight when you just use negative nicknames for players.

Ninkovich had 2 sacks in the AFCCG. Not bad going against a top OL unit without Jones across from him.

I think we're in the same position as we were prior to the Sanders signing. Top needs are still WR, DE, and secondary. Only difference with the Sanders signing is that we'll only need to draft one WR high. There are quality prospects throughout the draft for the top two needs, so I expect the team to trade down, and possibly out of the first round to collect more picks. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Mallett dealt, but I don't think the compensation is going to be anywhere near what people expect.

Yet the New England Patriots defense allowed 28 points and forced no turnovers.

Just keep your head buried in the sand and repeat everything is alright.

How the heck is DE still a top need for us? You people are driving me crazy. DT, Cover LB, CB, WR, OL and Safety are clearly bigger needs. DE isn't even in the top 4.

I think we would all appreciate it if you cited reasons why you think those players aren't sufficient 3rd, 4th, 5th and sometimes 6th stringers instead of just listing them with silly nicknames. Can you tell me who our back up OLB/DEs were when we had McGinest and Vrabel? Odds are you can't without Googling it because we didn't have 6 awesome players at that position. We had two.

Hi Vrabel - I took a look at last years' draft and here is something that I found interesting. Tavon Wilson, as we all know was selected by the Pats in the 2nd round and I can only imagine what it was like on this message board when he was drafted.

Do you recall who was selected immediately before Wilson?

I wonder if anyone recalls how long it took for the Patriots to get their selection in on that Tavon Wilson pick because the Pats went over the clock on that selection announcement. My gut tells me that the guy that they wanted was the selection before and this will be the draft that they rectify it.

Bull crap! His name was Rosevelt Colvin!

That many?

But seriously folks, nobody should have that pre-ordained waste of a #33 overall pick
on their CB depth chart. Better to pretend that he doesn't even exist.

And the Pats played the AFCCG without four defensive starters by the mid 1Q... Your point is what? Don't get injured? I agree.
