It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I just sent Ryan an e-mail for trotting out his annual "BB needs another SB win to be considered legit" column. Once a year he dusts it off and has it re-printed. Tired, out-of-date pap. Feel free to say good morning to Bobby Boy if you wish at [email protected].Bob Ryan posits that Bill NEEDS a post-SpyGate SB for his legacy in today's Glove.....

Leave it to the local media to 'support' its local team. Here in the bay area I cant hear one talk show or read a paper where they want to take their team down.
Now hopefully we can pass jay glazer today without any pats related controversies which always seem to rear its head when pats are in the big games.
i think both Belichick and Brady are the GOAT but for the national media and the country it will take that much to be in the discussion and more to end it. If they both get 2 more lombardi's then there shouldn't be a discussion, however there will still be those who wean to trot out the unbeaten in the SB argument, which is bullsh.t because losing Championship games doesn't make a player or coach better, which is really what they are arguing. Montana was 4-3 in NFC Championships, Brady will be 6-1 in AFC Championships if they win today, and 4-2 in the SB if they win their next 2 games. 6-1 in Conference Championships and 4-2 in the Bowl is better than 4-3 in Conference Championships and 4-0 in the Bowl. And that doesn't even include the many other categories where Brady will have the edge over Montana
if BB and Brady get 2 more lombardi's.....anyone who says they are not GOAT losses all credibility instantly, but instead of it being just NE fans and the NE region, it will be ALL football fans, and the whole USA
there is a limit to how much of a hater you can be, if these guys win 2 more (i can see it happening easily) and you try and argue they are not GOAT, you're simply dumb (you as in the person who says these things, not you as in ivan)
I miss Will McDonough's articles. I wonder sometimes how he would of viewed and wrote many of the topics over the years. I'm not sure if he would of changed with the times and became a blowhard like Borges and Ryan(who used to be very good writers)
I actually think McDonough would have hated the Patriots because he was the ultimate insider and expected real insider access and information, and Belichick would not have provided it regardless of whether he respected McDonough or not because he feels it doesn't help his team and definitely could damage it. Imo this has always been the source of Borges anger at Belichick and the Patriots, even more than the Bledsoe decision. Borges believed he was heir apparent to McDonough and was furious when Belichick treated him the exact same way he treats every other journalist. He thought he was going to make a big name for himself as an NFL insider and when he couldn't even get insider information in his home town it diminshed his ability to get it anywhere else as well.

Present and past members of the New England Patriots have vivid memories of former Boston Glove sports writer Will McDonough.
Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick:
"This is a terrible shock. Just three days ago, Will and I talked about the playoffs and he was his typical self - excited about the upcoming games, going through the matchups and, as usual, working angles that nobody else had thought of.
"That was Will - passionate about the game, extremely knowledgeable about the game but always looking for something new to add to his wealth of information and deliver it to the public - a true icon.
"I have many remembrances of Will, including playing golf on Nantucket, but my most vivid memory dates back to 1995, when he broke the news of the Browns moving to Baltimore. That was one of the biggest stories in NFL history, and Will was writing about it months before anyone had a clue."
RW, I agree that Belichick respected McDonough, I just think that his unwillingness to divulge information would have pissed McDonough off. Belichick wouldn't give his mother anything more than, "he's day to day," "it is what it is...."
I agree to a point. Willie knew how to cultivate his sources and build relationships and was never about injury reports or trying to publically show people up. Willie was certainly all about Willie but he wasn't a grandstander like Borges, Felger and Thomase that went out of their way to show people up or embarass them publically because they had something to proove. Keep in mind that BB has a long list of friends in the media that he'd divulge information to. Guys like Armen Ketayen, Michael Holley..and a lengthy personal interview with Bella English a few years back. All you need to do is be respectful of game and respectful of BB.
Thats why Willie was and because of that, I think Willie and BB would have continued to be fine if he hadn't passed away in 2003.
Oh, I just remembered that BB hired Willie's son as a scout for the Browns back in the 90s...that tells me there are some ties that bind there between the two.
