Rodney Harrison tells new story about Pats-Giants Super Bowl Final TD

As far as Rodney saying it without Junior here to defend himself, they were team mates for 12 seasons on 2 different teams. If anyone has the right to do that it's Rodney. Further, if he's telling the truth he should have called time out, I think we still had 2.

Maybe he said it because it happened, I dont take it as a knock on Junior, Junior was a competitor and probably thought he could get the sack and save the game. Hes just repeating what happened on the field, I actually love hearing these stories from him.

The video posted is just part of the interview. Iam sure there was a setup question before this was brought up. This is not rodney going on radio to absolve himself and blame junior. Sad but good football story IMO.

Just one more scenario added to the list of whatifs.Seymour was held blatantly.that's the one I'm sticking with.

Fans always want insight until it turns out not to be what they wanted to hear.

Maybe he's trying to find ways to absolve himself of any blame he's placed upon himself for not being in position to swat/intercept the ball and then not being able to pull the ball away from Tyree?

Dear Big T,

Perhaps you did not see it on the second SNF he a Dungy did together during their coaches breakdown segment.

The game had neither the Patriots or Giants, but Dungy decided to break down the helmet catch play from 42. Patrick offered Rodney a decent out to not watch and Rodney was going to take it and St. Dungy made Rodney stay.

In fairness to Dungy, he pointed out it was Samuel's man and he left his man to cover the scramble. Rodney was late because it was not supposed to be his responsibility.

Maybe Rodney's an analyst/journalist now and doesn't care as much about bumming out Patriots fans as he does about being candid and doing a good job. People are so F-ing sensitive.

I don't know what to think of Rodney Harrison.
He's my favorite Patriots player on defense probably of all time.

I remember saying at one time on this very forum "Rodney Harrison is a beast. He can say whatever he wants."

But lately I don't know...
He's said a lot of things that have made me want to recall his Patriot-4-life card. He's basically saying Junior botched the final play and Junior's not here to defend himself.

Not sure why we wouldn't have heard this before.

Or have we?

Only thing I've heard before is him putting the final Eli drive on Asante.

It's true that lots of people would rather remain ignorant than know what happened.

Rodney was asked a question and he gave the answer years later. It's not like it was the next day or even the next month. It's OK for the story to finally be told. You think Rodney's making this stuff up and that there's something for Seau to defend himself with? It happened. Just deal with it.

I love how nobody ever mentions how badly the d-line was held on that play. I bet the league uses that play when teaching new refs when to call holding.

Or when they're saying "See, when we want you to influence the outcome of a game, this is a moment it can happen. You can always say you wanted to let the players play in a game like this and no one will question it."

I love the insight. I dislike the the fact that it somewhat diminishes Junior, even though I feel very confident Rodney meant no slight. I dislike the fact that Rodney comes off as "smarter that the rest" because he knew the match-up was bad. As I stated earlier, if Rodney felt so strongly on it, why not call time out? As PalmBeach points out, we had all 3 time outs. The game was in the balance, Rodney's statement acknowledges this, but he didn't feel strongly enough about it to stop the Giants from exposing the mismatch. It doesn't add up to me. Call time out and get the right D. Instead, at the time, he backs his friend's call, knowing it was wrong. What stopped him?

I have no way of knowing, but I'd guess that at the time, Rodney went along with it because he too wanted the same thing for Junior... the career defining sack. I am only speculating, but I'd say time and hindsight have perhaps changed his view of the event.

First my disclaimer, Rodney was the second best Patriot I have seen in our Defensive Backfield (M Haynes #1, T Law #3.

I also like Rodney's brutal honesty as an analyst even when talking about the Pats D early this season.

I didn't get the sense he was throwing Junior under the bus, he was telling a war story and Junior wanting to blitz was a reflection of his personality as a layer. It is certainly possible that he just saw something different than what Rodney saw. I will be interested to see if Tedy B ever has occasion to comment on this.

Rodney has never mentioned that Samuel blew the coverage on the Tyree catch, or that he dropped the int earlier in the drive. He took ownership for not stopping the Tyree catch.

I also like hearing the between the lines stuff, remember how often the Pats talk about the importance of communication on D.
