Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

So, this pistol stuff. Who originated it? I know the Skins used itall year and Seattle started up with it. Now it seems SF is doing it too...so when did they start doing it? Were they doing it a lot when they played us? I honestly don't remember because I have blocked that game from memory.

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

Today's games show as bb says that what fans and analysts think will happen is not even close to what does.

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

3rd and 15, make 14 of them on a brilliant play, draw the defense offside on 4th and 1, run straight up the middle for another first down at the 2. Goodbye Green Bay!

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

Wikipedia says 626 is the record.

Thanks, doesn't look like they'll get it since they'll just be killing the clock next time they get the ball

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

Man, the Packers really suck!

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

Green Bay should think about fixing that defense. Second year in a row now.

They have been killing clock all of 3rd Q. GB cant even stop that.

Tebow and Urban Meyer popularized it. Tebow and Cam Newton in the NFL last year.

Not sure who should get the credit for it though. Similar concepts have been around for a loooong time.

I recall reading an article that detailed the differences between Green Bay and New England earlier this year. The article showed how the Patriots went about improving their near bottom of the league defense by making it a primary focus in the draft while Green Bay basically didn't reinvent themselves after last year. Now we're seeing that same Green Bay team which can put up points but is soft on defense.

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

As predicted, 49ers a much more complete team, wearing GB down. Much more physical. Over 550 yards offense, over 300 yards rushing. Dominant.

Green Bay has a great QB and passing game and can embarrass lesser teams, but to win it all they're either going to need to get lucky, hope they get on a sustained hot run, or they're going to need to make some major investments on defense and in building a more balanced offense, IMHO. Sort of like the 2010 Patriots.

Both teams last year came into 2012 needing a running game and a defense. BB had a great draft, traded for Talib, and gave the RB spot to a 2nd year guy that paid off. What did the Pack do? Draft a stiff pass rusher and do nothing to fix the running game?

All they're doing is running now...

Mathews is overrated IMHO. He flashes against weaker teams but he plays out of position a lot and is invisible in big games.

Possession 19:22 37:04

Re: Divisional Round Breakdown: Packers at 49ers

So much for the Denver v Green Bay superbowl

I really think I'd take Ninkovich over Mathews. Ninko is miles ahead in setting the edge, and not that far behind in pass rushing.

As frustrating as the Pats defense plays sometimes, this team is truly blessed to have BB and TB at the helm. Just look at what happened to high powered offenses w/elite QBs with soft defenses (GB, NO). With weaker leadership NE could be no different.

I never wanted Matthews in 2009, and have not been a big fan. He's a one dimensional player, just like GB's a one dimensional team. And a showboat to boot. I'll take Nink.

On nights like tonight it looks unstoppable. But then again, in that one game long ago, the Wildcat looked unstoppable too.
