Bit early and details still to come (I think) on who we get, but lots of good football watching in store for us as we await the start of the showdown with the Niners.

the506.com - NFL map index 2012

Thursday night: Benglas and Eagles. Hard to root against any team with BJGE on it; easy to root against the Eagles.

Sunday highlights:
Early games CBS: Den @ Bal, Indy @ Hou
Early games Fox: GB@ Chi, NYG @ ATL; Wash @ CLE could be interesting
Late games: Pitt @ Dal; Sea @ Buf (Toronto) potentially interesting

MNF: Titan-Jets (comic relief I guess)

Red Zone all day. Gonna be weird rooting for Indy and the Ravens, but so be it. Early forecast in Baltimore is rainy and 50, by the way.

5 key games:

1. SF @NE. Pats win and they're in the driver's seat for at least the #2 seed, possible #1. SF wins and they're in the driver's seat for the AFC West and a possible #2 seed. Lose and they may be facing a wild card.

2. Denver @Baltimore. If Baltimore wins they win the division. They have a new OC and will probably run the ball more, testing Denver. They are coming off their first 2 game losing streak since 2009, and their first home loss since 2010, so their backs are to the wall. If Denver wins they keep pace for a possible #2 seed. Lose and they are the #4 seed as of next week, even if NE loses, and will have lost to all 3 other division winner. Root for Baltimore (it hurts to say that).

3. Indy @Houston. Houston wins and they win the AFC South and clinch a bye. Lose and Indy is within a game with 2 to go, including one at home. If Indy wins, a sweep would give them the division and make Houston a wild card. Root for Indy (it hurts to say that, too).

4. Giants @Atlanta. Giants need to win to stay ahead of Washington and Dallas. A loss puts Atlanta in a tailspin heading towards the playoffs.

5. Green Bay @Chicago. If the Packers win the clinch the AFC North and are in position for a possible #2 seed. The Bears could end up out of the playoffs altogether at this point.

5 other games of playoff interest:

6. Seattle @Buffalo. Seattle should win this, which would make them 9-5. If NE beats SF the 49ers would be 9-4-1 going on the road to Seattle. A Seattle win would give them the division lead over the 49ers with one week to go, and both teams have easy week 17 games. It's the difference between being the #2 or #3 seed or the #5 seed.

7. Cincinnati @Philadelphia. The Eagles stopped the hemorrhaging last week with a last second win against Tampa Bay. Cincinnati lost on a last second field goal to Dallas, and needs to win to stay in the hunt for the #6 seed in the AFC, with a showdown with the Steelers the following week.

8. Pittsburgh @Dallas. Steelers screed up vs. the Chargers and have to win to stay in the playoff hunt before facing the Bengals week 16. Dallas got a reprieve against Cincinnati but need to win to keep pace with Washington.

9. Washington @Cleveland. Redskins may not have RGIII, and Cleveland is not a pushover any more. Redskins need to win to keep pace.

10. NYJ @Tennessee. Jets suddenly think they have a shot at the playoffs.

It will be interesting.

You should be rooting for the Bengals and Steelers right now. Good chance that the Pats chance for a #1 seed boils down to Texans @ Colts, week 17. It would be a shame if the Colts are already in the playoffs and not playing for much.

I just looked at the Playoff Machine at ESPN. There is almost no chance that the Colts will be playing for anything other than 5th versus 6th seed in Week 17. They could lose their next two and will probably still clinch the playoffs before then. Too bad for the Pats... that loss to AZ was a game they never should have lost, and it will likely cost them the #1 seed, unless the Colts can knock off Houston in Houston this week. Houston is favored by 9.

Over the past couple of weeks my mind keeps going back to that AZ game. Hoping we get some help from Indy and it all becomes academic but you got right, it could definitely be the one that costs us the #1. Aw Hell, should have had Baltimore and Seattle too!

I keep on thinking of that, too, but they now have to deal with it. I think the Patriots are going to end up with that #2 seed.

On a different note, the Giants have some good games coming up. If they make the playoffs, they will certainly be tested. @ATL and @BAL in back to back weeks. I am curious to see how they come out of it.

Its unfortunate that all the best non-primetime games are at 1:
NYG-ATL
DEN-BAL (huge implications for us)
IND-HOU (huge implications for us)
GB-CHI

At 4 you only have one possibly good matchup - Pitt at Dallas, but on both sides you never know what team will show up. Wish they could distribute those games better. Still it should be a very entertaining Sunday afternoon leading up to our big game Sun night.

Go Colts!

seriously?

Yes, I guess so.
