Brady will eventually hold the most consecutive games with a TD

Trust me, Brady doesn't care about this record. But it's more than ok for fans to talk about it. It would add to his overall legend that is ever growing. Brady could care less about personal records, he wants Lombardis the most. This type of accomplishment would be icing on the cake.

One point to differ though, the dump off pass to the RB. Isn't the old era about short passes rather than long vertical passes for TDs? The length of the pass has no relevancy on whether it is a 'legitimae' TD pass. It's all about whether the ball passes the goal line.

And if you watched Vereen's TD catch, that was an electric and dynamic play. He simply beat all the defenders with his speed. The fact that Brady hit him in perfect stride allowed him to go off with the ball in space. I don't see any problem with crediting both men for making a tremendous play.

Sorry, I don't really see how impressive this record is in a league that is pass oriented. Why should I be awe-struck at Brees's record when I saw him throw a TD pass with 10 seconds left on the clock in a game they had no chance of winning, just to keep the streak going?

Moreover, I am thoroughly unimpressed with 1-2 yard dump offs to running backs that end up being 30+ yard touchdowns - Qb's should not be credited with a TD in those situations. I am far too young to have watched Unitas, but I have watched enough of the Saints the past few years, and specifically Drew Brees to see how much individual stats mean to the dude. I really don't think his streak was all that brilliant.

I personally don't know Brady, but for a guy that his arguably the greatest to ever play the game; multiple SB rings, MVP’s, and countless records - I find it hard to believe that he would be passionate about getting this one, or that he would even be aiming for it.

So you don't think that a former sixth round pick cares about the all time most consecutive games with a touchdown record to add to his resume?

Trust me, Brady doesn't care about this record....

Why do people here keep saying this sort of thing? It runs completely counter to everything we know about both Brady and Belichick. Brady is known as an ultracompetitive man who is driven to win at everything he plays, from table tennis to football. He still gets pissed and choked up when he thinks about being drafted in the sixth round, over a decade ago. BB is the guy who had Flutie making drop kicks and Brady going completely off the game plan against Miami in 2007 so that Moss could get the receiving TD record. As a duo, they're the most pedal to the metal pairing the league has seen since Lombardi/Starr.

Brady may be willing to only go after records within the team framework, but there's no way that he "doesn't care", IMO.

I'd prefer him to hold (and I bet he'd prefer it too) the record for most Superbowl appearances and most Superbowl rings for any QB.

I don't know if this was mentioned previously in the thread, but a bit of trivia:

Brees' consecutive-game touchdown streak ended on November 29.

Brady's last game without a touchdown pass?
November 30, 2009 - against Brees and the Saints.

Brady may not hold that record in such high regard as Lombardi and MVP but there's no way he doesn't want his name on that record as well.

I think he will try and get it..but will fail

In a way, I don't like this...seems like it becomes top of mind in a way that wasn't before. But what the hell, hope he breaks it.

the only thing this stat reveals is longevity, has very little to do with assessing a QB's performance.
the most important variables in assessing a QB's performance IMHO in a given season are:
1. Turnovers
2. 3rd down success rate
3. Sacks taken

Not as much emphasis is placed on sacks taken but this has a huge impact on a teams ability to sustain drives and albeit a crappy Oline has plenty of say in this but the best ones know when to unload so they aren't in a 2nd or 3rd and long. this is one area that Rodgers gets little to no bashing on but in my opinion reflects a significant difference between he and Brady.

Deus is on fire today. I cant like this post twice but I would. And your post in the Brady/Manning MVP thread about the media's flawed logic I couldn't agree more with.

Any guy who is competitive enough to still be talking 20 years later about how he wasn't the starting QB on his high school team is more than competitive enough to care about holding a signature NFL record that stood for over half a century, that wasn't even threatened by the likes of Starr, Staubach, Montana & Marino and that Canton said "might never be broken" in its bio of Johnny Unitas.

On the other hand, if you have had a private, one-on-one conversation with Tom Brady in which he has told you he doesn't care about this record, please feel free to correct me and fill the rest of us in on the details. We're all waiting with bated breath.

And, to anticipate the response, yes, I completely agree that Tom Brady would no doubt gladly trade this record for a fourth Lombardi if he had to choose, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about it.

And, to anticipate another response, Yes I do know that winning football games and championships is more important to Tom Brady than any individual record, but that too doesn't mean he doesn't care about holding this one, all other things being equal.

If Brady was playing Pac-Man at the local five and dime and somebody said: "Drew Brees was just playing that in here last week and he has the top score." Brady would get a part-time job there and play til the top score said TFB.

Rings is what counts in this league and that 4th ring seems to be elusive.Thats what i care about with TB.

and I'm sure that's Job One with TFB too but that does not mean that he can't multi-task and work towards and care about goals that are congruent with Job One. It's not like the guy is noted like Peyton and Brees for cranking up the arm at the goal lone eschewing the opportunity to run the TD in. Quite the opposite.

At this stage in TFB's career he's got to be well aware of legacy. Another ring is by far the most important but there are plenty of other worthy benchmarks within his competitive grasp.

To me, the most impressive QB record is this:

Most consecutive passes, None intercepted: 358 Tom Brady.

List of National Football League records (individual) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And Brady already has it. While all stats depend on another player or multiple players on your team in order to achieve, I still feel that with the exception of the unfortunate bounced pass off your receivers hands or a receiver slipping, interceptions is a responsibility that is mostly in the hands of your quarterback more than anything else: completions, touchdowns, etc.

Just my opinion of course.

And it's not just the fact that he broke it, but rather, he smashed it.

1. Tom Brady, New England, 358 (2010-11)
2. Bernie Kosar, Cleveland, 308 (1990-91)
3. Bart Starr, Green Bay, 294 (1964-65)
4. Jeff George, Indianapolis-Atlanta, 279 (1993-94)
5. Rich Gannon, Oakland, 277 (2001)
6. Jason Campbell, Washington, 271, (2007-08)

Even when Alex Smith was getting all that attention on his efficiency only got to 249 and that's while managing the game and keeping his attempts to around 25 passes on a regular basis. Rodgers never came close.

Tom's at ~200 and counting right now and might make the top 5 list once again this year. TFB is so good he is the only one who has a chance to break his own records. I can see the top 3 on this list all being "Tom Brady" by the time he retires :D

PS: Oh and I'm 100% sure Tom Brady does care about this one, as he should. A whole hell of a lot.

Well, it is kinda the definition of a "streak."

Except he did not throw a td versus Baltimore in the playoffs so if you are being that literal Brady is out of it too

Can you go into some detail about the lost draft for the '72 Fish....never heard this before

Shula was coaching the Baltimore Colts when he left to be the Dolphins head coach. The Colts claim that the Dolphins tampered with Shula while he was still under contract and the Commissioner made Miami forfeit their first round pick in 1970 or 1971,,,,,

Playoffs don't count in regular season streaks.
