Is This Where We Finally See Jake Bequette On The Field?

Re: Jake bequette

Bequette isn't as quick or fast, is more powerful, doesn't have pass rush moves, doesn't have good length, is known for having a nonstop motor, and doesn't have prehistoric exoskeletons tattooed on his arm.

How are they similar?

They both have a last name beginning with the letter B

Re: Jake bequette

I would throw him out there and let him get some reps.Nothing to lose. This team needs more consistency when it comes to rushing the passer.

But we got Alfonzo Dennard, who actually could end up being the steal of the draft.

The Pats' 2000 draft was pretty sucky. But there was this 6th round QB that they picked up ...

Dennard is already looking like the best steal of the draft.

He's on the roster, why not play him a snap or two? If we use this Cunningham down time and take it easy on Jones, we might pull a surprise later with Francis or Bequette. What do you have to lose in an obvious rush situation or two in non critical situations.

Haven't read all of this thread, but apparently some have judged, by the quality of his pine time, that Bequette obviously doesn't have it. This place just cracks me up sometimes.

In regards to dennard, many of us were excited about the initial first to second round projection. Punching an off duty cop gave us the chance to take a flier in the seventh...

Many of us felt he would be a steal if he could keep his nose clean...

Agreed. We should blitz all 11 guys IMO.

So the guys ahead of him don't need reps?

Re: Jake bequette

I much rather see him then Francis, etc.I just wanna see a damn pass rush.Thats gonna be huge in the playoffs. You just cant keep trying to outscore the other opponent.I think building a running game in the playoffs will be huge this year.

Re: Jake bequette

Umm, well, ahh.... what?

Yes, apparently we missed Bequette's 18 sack season. Why is he still on the bench? This is an OUTRAGE!!

This entire statement is absurd. The guy we need to replace Cunningham was being cut in mini camp according to 98% of the posters in this forum and now you're saying you are either in the program right away or not at all. Tom Brady took 3 snaps as a rookie, Rob Ninkovich had 1 sack his first year with us.

Francis came in with a very strong relationship with Belichick son they were together at Rutgers that is hardly the depths..

I think we should allow Bequette some time before we judge. He has good size, good athleticism, high motor and based on recently winning a practice award he is a hard worker.

Tom Brady won the Super Bowl the first year he was out there playing. I wouldn't level that with giving Jake Bequette more time to develop. Brady was also one of the backups to an All-Pro QB in his rookie year. No such player stands in the way of Bequette.

I was simply saying that typically (there's always exceptions) players don't suddenly get it. There's always a hint, and we have no hints with Bequette. The reference I always use is how everyone (large percentage of posters here) wanted and hoped to the point that they believed that Pierre Woods was going to transform from a backup/special teamer into a good OLB once he was the starter simply because he was the starter. We never saw anything he did on the field that made us think Pierre Woods is anything special or even anything respectable.

Being a UDFA is the depths, but Francis was getting a lot of acknowledgement from very early on in the preseason.

If someone can teach him some technique - maybe in 3 years he will be Cunningham. All he did at Arkansas was run around people - when engaged, he never got close to the QB.

So you're telling me we have a Clay Matthews 2.0 on the N.E. Patriots and BB is not playing him? I want BB tarred and feathered as we speak!

Except Clay Matthews has more in his bag of tricks than just speed.

Just think of our picks last year. Tavon Wilson in the second, a rugby player, a slow WR and a cop punching faller. I think our board was so small last year that once BB got Tavon Wilson, he didn't really want anything after that. Just took what was there. Hence Bequette.

umm.. I didn't realize that a WR who ran 4.38 was slow.

As for Bhelmet and his Johnny-Come-Lately 2 cents, most of what he's saying is just a rehash of what NFLDraftScout.com said about Bequette.

Contrary to the OP, Bequette HAS seen the field this year. He's played in 2 games. Reality is that Bequette was a lot less polished than Jones and seen more of a long term project who would have to put a lot of time and effort into his development. Probably as a 3-4 OLB more so than a 4-3 DE.

Can't remember the exact story but didn't Belichick tell a scout or coach to have a good look at Brady? Maybe targeted is too strong but there was certainly pre-draft interest.

**** Rehbein, who was the QBs coach, was sent to scout both Brady and Tim Rattay. During the draft, with both Rattay and Brady still on the board, Rehbein was asked who he would chose. Rehbein said Brady. And that's who they took.

From what I remember, WR Ebert ran a 4.42, how is that slow ?

Ebert ran a 4.38 at his Pro-Day.. In either case, it's not slow.

Gotta love people who claim Bequette doesn't have good length. The guy is 6'4 and 1/2" tall and his arms measure 32" long. How is that not "good length"??
