Re: Hybrid Offense ~ 2007 & 2011 Merge, Forming "Some Terrifying Mutant Combination!!

Bill Belichick drafted tight end Daniel Graham in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft and tight end Ben Watson in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. Obviously the aforementioned tight ends did not work out as well as the current pair of Gronkowski and Hernandez.

Yeah, didn't work out here either. But interesting to think if the Duel TE's was a accident or BB was shooting for 2 TE's.

Re: Hybrid Offense ~ 2007 & 2011 Merge, Forming "Some Terrifying Mutant Combination!!

Wait....I heard on patsfans last week that the offense was "underwhelming" so far this year.

You mean to tell me that they are doing okay after all?

Re: Hybrid Offense ~ 2007 & 2011 Merge, Forming "Some Terrifying Mutant Combination!!

He started experimenting with it in the 1970's with Detroit when he coached with them

Belichick's dual TE threat started in 1970s - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Yup. It's no accident. BB has been obsessed with TEs for decades, and he's been trying to find the right mix ever since he came to NE. And even with Gronk and Ahern, he's still trying to add to the group. No other coach in the NFL is as obsessed with the use of TEs in the offense - the New Orleans offense has no real correlation, in spite of Jimmy Graham's rise to dominance.

The interesting thing is that despite the dominance of the Pats' offense, they really haven't had all the pieces together this season. Lloyd is still gettig in sync with Brady. Edelman's been out. Gronk has been banged up. Hernandez has missed most of the season so far. And Vereen has only been used sparingly. Welker and the RBs have really stepped up over the past few weeks. As good as the offense has been, the potential is much greater.

My hope is that Gronkowski doesn't need this year to get back to full-strength.

My hope is that Gronkowski doesn't need this year to get back to full-strength.

74catches for 994yards and 10 TDs would be his projected 16 game stats.

Gronk is definitely not full strength, and he's banged up. He doesn't seem to be generating quite as much separation as last year, and he's missed a few tough catches that he probably would have made in the past. But he's been a huge factor in the dominant rushing attack, and he's still the best overall TE in the game.

Re: Hybrid Offense ~ 2007 & 2011 Merge, Forming "Some Terrifying Mutant Combination!!

Offense is right now at about 85% strength right now. As said before, Lloyd is still trying to get to speed with Brady, players will get healthier as the season goes along. But imagine the possibilities with this offense. This offense will be lethal in the postseason, if they can use that running game to control the clock and keep the other team's offense off the field. But now, the biggest change in the offense this year is the time of possession. Last year, they were 27th in the NFL, even with the 2nd best offense (yard-wise). This year, they are 7th in the NFL in TOP.

You owe me a new keyboard from all the sticky buttons your threads have caused. I know, TMI, but that's not cool man!!

Bucky Brooks looks at the latest makeover of the Pats offense, this one featuring the up-tempo no huddle and the power running game:

New England Patriots diversify offense with power running game - NFL.com

It's impressive how many ways the Pats have been able to "re-design" an offense that averages over 30 points per game.

Love the breakdown by Bucky Brooks. This Pats offense has so many ways to hurt you! On top of that we are getting Aaron Hernandez back soon! Defensive coordinators around the league do not sleep well when they have to face the Pats the following week!!

Wait....I heard on patsfans last week that the offense was "underwhelming" so far this year.

You mean to tell me that they are doing okay after all?

Please tell me what they are smoking. They do realize that the Pats are the #1 offense in the ENTIRE NFL both in terms of yardage and points scored?

The offense is looking more like a combination of the 2004 and 2011 versions to me.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner I would agree with the combo of 04 and 11 more so then 07. But I would go one step further04 combined with 11 but a cherry on top in BLloyd as neither the 04 or 11 team had that type of player.

Yes, indeed.

Read the first few posts, if you will, Gentlemen.

The Title was chosen because it quoted a Reference from FootBall OutSiders.

But Brother Mayo and I have been loudly advocating a Fusion of 2004, 2007, and 2010 for a long time.

And as this Thread has evolved from a side reference to an article ~ from the FootBall OutSider Almanac ~ into a discussion of precisely that Dream that Mayo, I, and others've shared ere so long ~ and of its ~ incredibly ~ seeming to come true before our very eyes...I shall humbly request the Mods to change if for us.

Re: Hybrid Offense ~ 2007 & 2011 Merge, Forming "Some Terrifying Mutant Combination!!

I'd say it's a combination of 2004, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001, and 1985

So..... what you're saying is that this is the 4037 offense?

Actually 6001. I forgot to include the 1964 offense

With 5 games to go the Pats are averaging 37 PPG, the highest in modern league history, even higher than the 2007 team, despite injuries to Hernandez, Gronk, Mankins, Vollmer, Connolly and Edelman and the suspension of Bolden leading to significant missed playing time, not to mention a plethora or lesser injuries and missed games (Connolly, Fells, Shiancoe, Vereen, etc.). The Hybrid SuperBeast Offense seems to be coming together nicely, with a lot of the timing problems and kinks that were noticeable earlier in the season being much smoother now.

I would still love the pats to get a burner though. Having a true deep threat would make the offense virtually unstoppable.

When Jake Ballard returns to the field, watch out. this year has been great but I feel next year is going to make god a fan.
