Cutdown Day: PATS DISCUSSION thread

Let's go to the quote. Quote time for Andy:

Happened. Brown's PI call in which he literally ran over the receiver before the ball even got there but the Giants at first and goal with a fresh set of downs.

Again, the pass interference happened because he didn't turn around and look for the ball. If not for that, our chances of stopping that final drive go up and there's a big chance the Giants go 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Instead he trucked the receiver and set the Giants up for the game winner.

Sarcasm stemming from his tweet. Not rejoicing. For me to rejoice, it would go something like this: "Sweet! I'm glad that bum is gone. He sucked and our secondary is all the better for it". I didn't say that. Further...

rejoice[ ri-jois ]
verb (used without object)
1.*to be glad; take delight (often followed by in): to rejoice in another's happiness.

Where in my post did I ultimately take delight in his being cut? A better description for my post would have been this: an ultra dry, sarcastic recollection of what I remember him most for.

Sarcastic, yes; dry, not a whit.

And you're still rejoicing even if you're expressing it via sarcasm.

Anyone else seeing a youth movement on both sides of the ball?
I think Belichick is actually planning for the future. And by doing that I don't mean stockpiling draft picks so that we have ten first rounders 5 years from now. He obviously sees talent in the younger players on our roster, otherwise he wouldn't have cut ties with so many of our vets.

I agree...post#98
BB is on a youth movement kick.
ALL the 3 vet WRs cut. Every one. And Edelperson still here whom most of Patsfans had gone.
Got incredibly younger at RB over the last 2 years. Bye to Faulk, the old JAGs and BJGE.

O Line much younger over the same time period as Light and Koppen depart.

Vets on D Line purged (Warren & the FA) with all the youths still there.

BB hates old people. Or maybe his son is filling in making the roster moves this summer?

He's a top-notch gunner
Top-notch gunners for the New England Patriots:

Matthew Slater
Marquice Cole
Nate Ebner

who's shown some potential utility at WR.
As of today, the New England Patriots do not need "potential" at the wide receiver position on the 53 man roster but proven commodities. Potential is for the practice squad.

We already have some top-notch gunners on our roster *see Slater, Matthew
but I'll give you that second point. He DOES have potential utility at WR... If he doesn't quit halfway through the route.

I think a training camp and preseason in a less dysfunctional system could have cured him of his route-quitting tendency. If he is cut - as is expected - I think it'll be for not having shown enough positive reasons to keep him, rather than having that one play for another team counting against him.

You are joking right? Why say it if you won't stand behind it?
Your post is nothing close to simply recalling what happened

Sergio Brown was terrible. He was arguably the worst player on arguably the league's worst secondary. I think we all wish him well…just not wearing our team's uniform.
If he had stayed on the roster despite all the recent drafting of DBs, I think I would have lost it.

It's still preseason. All anyone is at this point is "potential."

Reiss has Kettani cut, so some positions seem set, for now:

S - Chung, Gregory, Wilson, Ebner
FB - nobody
QB - Brady, Mallett

Didn't he quit on a route during the game against the Giants?
I could be wrong, I didn't watch the game. But I think he dropped off a deep route that would have almost definitely been a TD.

I hope Eric Kettani makes it to the practice squad.

Matt Kopa released.

Another potential practice squad player along with Kettani.

You might want to read on the definition of rejoicing. I posted it. If you want to see rejoicing, consult PatriotsReign's post.

And I like how you know what I was conveying in that post better than I, the one that wrote the post, does.

:bricks:

I hate Sergio Brown, could care less where he ends up or if he even gets a call. Good riddance to bad players, sorry this is a cut throat league. If you ain't up to standard then get the F out and get a job like everyone else or go play in the CFL. Don't act like you can play and steal fans hard earned money to play like ****.

That penalty against the Giants is beyond the dumbest thing i've seen a Pat do in a while.

BB is gonna make a big trade at Receiver to give us a lock at No.3 and then bring back Gaffney or Branch after Week 1.

Jesse Holley is not the answer to the question.

Unless the question is "which of the following receivers are still on the Patriots' roster as of this moment:

a) Jesse Holley
b) Deion Branch
c) Jabar Gaffney
d) Donte Stallworth

You don't cut Deion Branch without a backup plan in mind, i highly doubt it's Ebert either. There will be a move for a receiver IMO.

Unless Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels both believe Branch has nothing left to offer the team compared to the WR's currently on the roster.
