Cutdown Day: PATS DISCUSSION thread

No, I'm talking all his injuries. You're pretending you have insight into them when you don't.

Again, this is a waste of time. You're making a ridiculous argument, and you're doing it on an area of the team where I'd already said that I wouldn't be worrying about it (pitchfork committee) until after week 2.

You are talking a three year stretch in a nine year career. A stretch that ended three years ago.

I agree this is a waste of time. Why do I waste my time with your negative contrarian spin on everything. You take away the three season stretch, and at most, Lloyd missed four games in six years due to injuries AT MOST! The guy is a walking trama center.

Somewhat ironic, considering that they seemed to have a hundred guys in camp at that position.
The "veterans":

Branch
Gaffney
Stallworth
Gonzalez
Ochocinco

The "scrubs":

Holley
Taylor

Of course, I wasn't being a negative contrarian at all, and you were playing the part of team shill, but you go ahead and pretend otherwise.

And you don't just get to take away 3 seasons. But, again, you know that too. It's just the shill in you working again.

I am being patient. I am not going to act like an idiot like you and act like the sky is falling if it takes 3 weeks for the Pats to resign Gaffney because Lloyd was injury prone in three of his nine years in the league.

If the Pats are as thin at WR right now after game 4 or after week 2 if Gaffney signs elsewhere, then I will be more negative. I am don't go overboard and I wait for the other shoe to fall. I expect Gaffney to be re-signed, but it make a little more time than after week 1.

Don't forget cuts not due till 9pm.

I hear you, and you're absolutely correct. However, I'm going to assume that a player practicing has made the team until it's reported otherwise, just because it seems an easier approach.

Ugh the lack of dept at wide out is going to come back to bite them in the ass when special teamers like Edelman and slater are playing major roles down the stretch(remember Caldwell and Aiken starting?). Bill better have a plan he's right more often than he is wrong but let's not act like he hasn't made mistakes.

The more I think about it the more I think Branch will be back.

I expect him to be back at some point, but possibly not right after week1.

1.) You jumped into the conversation with the contrarian take, not me. I was having a calm and reasoned discussion regarding the cuts and had even put a troll on ignore rather than allow the thread to be derailed.

2.) I've noted that this is a waste of time on multiple occasions, but you can't stop trying to massage the guy's injury history instead of just accepting it for what it is, which is a red flag for a team short on WRs. Just let it die, for crying out loud.

Will Ebert be on the roster because of the Welker situation?

I've always wondered whether Ebert could get some play on the outside. He's got the wheels for it. He's also reportedly about 5'11" and 200 lbs, so he should have the size for it.

You know it's an pointless argument when you read the last page and can't tell which side two people are on, all you know is they are arguing.

Injuries are fully random. They are randomly distributed throughout the entire league. Some players will never get one. Some will get some one year, but not others. Some will get them often. But it's flipping a coin. There is no such thing as "injury prone." Just random luck, good and bad.

(The only argument with merit is whether a guy is willing or not willing to "gut it out" and play with a minor injury; but major injuries are purely random.)

I don't really have a position on this because I think the data is very mixed. If you want to take Deus' opinion, you have that 3-year stretch in there where he missed a lot of time. If you take Rob's opinion, you have 6 of the 9 years (and the last 2 in particular) where Lloyd was pretty healthy.

It's almost impossible from the data to get an accurate projection of how many games he'll play in 2012. I'm going to guess 14. But it's no better a guess than Deus' or Rob's. One thing everyone can agree on: we all hope he stays healthy all season long.

I have to think, check that, I have to PRAY that the team is bringing Gaffney back because Edelman is not a flanker and WR is generally a position where rookies have struggled to succeed in our offense. Further, I have doubts that we can bring in Vinny Gumbatz off the street and have him digest our playbook in enough time to be a factor at the beginning of the season.

As it stands right now, we are terribly thin at WR.

No 4:00 game today.

Exactly He's just about the same size as David Givens and at 4.3 the fastest 40 time other than Demps. As far as I remember reading he is strong enough to play outside and certainly fast enough. I don't remember reading or seeing anything exceptional in his quickness that would make one immediately assume he's going to be a slot receiver other. than the color of his skin.

I'm fairly certain he's going to eventually find his way to the PS. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor last longer on the 53 man roster.

Having Mallett as the only backup QB is a concern. I don't see him as often as BB does, obviously, but the kid doesn't look ready to me.
I learned BB knows more then I do back on that season bradys knee was destroyed. All preseason the only thing I wanted to hear everyday was cassell got cut as he looked like a large bucket of **** on the field, then he came in game 1 and ended up with 11 wins. I stopped questioning BB's decisions from then on.
