I still have this gut feeling that we may be underestimating the Jets 0, though for the life of me I can't see how. Other than Mangold the others on offense are either talented with flaws, flawed with talents or just plain flawed. However the Front Office and coaches have conspired to make the flaws more obvious.
I remember back when they traded for Tebow, Fanseca was almost vitriolic in saying you cant have two different offenses, one for each quarterback as you end up with no offense. While this appears to be true from the first two games, the two offenses approach does limit the amount of practice the team gets in either "vanilla" offense, though technically its only one "vanilla" offense because Rex/Sparano are keeping the "wildcat/option" under wraps during the offseason. What we may be witnessing is Sanchez performing his "vanilla" offense ineffectively, and Tebow performing Sanchez' "vanilla" offense even worse, because he is not allowed to exhibit his version. His runs in the first pre-season game were not part of his "vanilla" offense (wildcat or option), but merely improvisational moves on his part.
While it is still early in pre-season, this cannot bode well for the Jets. Instead of simplifying the Schotty offense, they have made it much more complicated by having two distinct and separate offenses that bear no relationship to each other. I am guessing that this makes it very difficult for all to learn (especially rookies and 2nd/3rd year players). Instead of practicing hard on the overall offense, the time has to be split. Final thought is that this level of complexity must also limit the amount of situational football that is practiced, since the more plays that are practiced the greater the level of complexity (ie which play goes with which offense - argghhh).
There is no doubt in my mind that Rex is going "all-in" on this approach, a risky bet at the best of times.
