Chandler Jones shooting up draft boards, could be first DE off the board going as high as 12 to Seatle

Good. Drops a better player to us. Laughable if he gets drafted before Courtney Upshaw. I love to watch football. Not too big on watching young men lift weights and run 40 yard dashes with no pads.

^^^ FYI Jones had an awful 40 yard time. I never had watched him until I heard this and saw Mayock's top 100 list but youtube a couple of his games and it's impressive. Consistently generates pressure and plays with a great motor.

Don't have the link, but Greg Bedard writes that the Pats like Montana DB Trumaine Johnson.

I don't think it would be laughable. I have just mocked Jones to Seattle myself in my final mock yesterday. Upshaw falls off at #16 to the Jets.

I like Upshaw and he's a day one starter but I think a guy like Shea McClellin will have a better career over the long haul. Upshaw is not going to light the NFL up IMO. He'll be a solid contributor. He won't be able to play with his hand down at an NFL level and he's not explosive or athletic enough to be one of the best OLBs in the NFL.

Jones tape is rather impressive, with consistent production throughout his collegiate career. I wouldn't say he had an awful 40 time but he didn't have the best...had a nice 10 yard split and was up there with the top prospects...didn't lift as much as some either but he has incredibly long arms so that would make it more difficult. I tend to add an extra 5 reps in my mind for players with extremely long arms.

Jones did impress me in agility drills a little more than I expected too. He has always looked a little stiff to me on tape so it'll be intriguing to see how he develops and if a team sees him as a potential OLB also.

PFT reports Patriots have not contacted Andre Carter. Might indicate what they are looking for in the draft.

In his Monday Morning Quarterback column this week, Peter King mentions that "The Patriots worked out Boise State outside 'backer/defensive end Shea McClellin and liked what they saw..."

Small mention, but I dig it!!!

Geez.... So many "risers" being thrown around by media and "sources". This is what I think BB realizes, that his counterparts on other teams don't.... not all of those guys can rise without other good players falling.. you also can't have 20 guys rise into the top 15. is it possible to have 33 people "rise" into the 1st round? lol.

Alot of disinformation out there this time of year. Lovin' it!

Can't link but from Tony Pauline (draftinsider.com)

"- I’ve been told by several people the Baltimore Ravens will jump at the chance to draft Shea McLellin if he’s available for them in round one. Otherwise they could draft Peter Konz."

Saw someone of some repute on Twitter before (sorry I can't recall who) saying that Patriots had Chandler Jones in and really liked him and were interested in Nick Perry too. I'll try and dig it up.

I like Jones somewhat but he's probably going to be drafted way higher than he should (which should be the 2nd round IMO).

Not big into Perry. Seems like too much of a strength guy and a one-trick pony.

I will be very, very surprised if Belichick takes a DE/OLB conversion project early.

EDIT:It was Stacey Dales of NFL Network, as reported by Mike Loyko of nepatriotsdraft.com.

Not a rumor, and sorry if its old news, but I just found out that Chandler Jones is the brother of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. He's gotta be pretty athletic then. I wonder if he's as arrogant as his brother?

Their other brother also plays for the Ravens. Talented family!

Great news for me. My top 2 OLB / DE choices heading into the draft.

Unfortunately for Jones fans, he'll probably be long gone by the time the Patriots pick. His stock has skyrocketed recently. Some are even saying Top 10 now...
