Who gets what defense? Do Dilfer and Patten get the 2000 Ravens' D, or even the 2003 Patriots' D, while Wes and Brady get the 2011 Pats' D?

I don't care what Willie or anyone else says, just sign Welker please BB! We really ned this guy and he did outplay his contracts. He's never once been a poor sport about the money he was reveiving. If Ochostinko can get what he got last year, they should triple Welker's salary.

He's 100% expendable. The system has proved over the years that it can turn nobodies (which Welker was) into somebodies and it can revive the career of a run down vet (look at Moss and Branch).

Willie hasn't, but NFLN analyst Warren Sapp claims to have.

Accoring to Sapp, the Patriots have reportedly offered Welker a 4 year deal worth 58.3 pairs of Jordans.

Willie never had to think about money. He was rich before he ever played a down, based on where he was drafted. Wes has always been a solid teammate , furthest from a diva as one can be, and is using his only leverage. IMHO, Willie should have a Coke and a smile and STFU.

You didn't answer the question. Until I see a contract offer that outlines what the Patriots are offering, ripping Wes Welker is an unnecessary position. I'm neither in favor of the Patriots or Welker, but I sure as hell don't commit to something I don't believe to be reasonable, especially a contract.

The more pertinent point is that anyone applying a diva mentality to Wes Welker, given what he's done for this team over a 5 year period needs their head examined.

You have to take your agent's advice. The NFL is a business and players are its commodity. Nobody is looking out for Welker but Welker.

The only thing I agree with Willie about is that Wes Welker on another team is not the same as Wes Welker with the Patriots.
In other words, he was a nifty little utility knife on the Dolphins, but Bill B. and Tom B. used that little Swiss army knife to carve a masterpiece.

Will he be better with another team than he was with the Dolphins? probably.. as teams have seen how to better use his talents.

Will he be as good as he is in N.E. with another team?....most definately not. I think 80-90% of other GM's know this.

BUT..... it's that other 10-20% of GM's that are in desperation/stupidity mode that throw a monkey wrench in the negotiations. While nobody has offered Wes a contract... Both Wes and the Pats know that if there wasn't a franchise tag slapped on him (costing 2, 1st's to the team signing him I believe?) then he would have gotten a pretty sweet offer in FA this year.

No one in Pats management or Welker's camp is required to provide transparency into this. It would be odd if they did.

I think there is a difference between a NE Patriot criticizing his teammate in regards to his contract situation vs a commentator criticizing a player on his former team.

I don't see why people have such a big issue with Rodney,Bruschi,Willie,Troy or whoever having opinions about what is going on with the team. Right or wrong i still appreciate what those guys have to say just based on what they helped build in here.

maybe welker should just man up and play under the tag like others have

if I was the pats FO, I'd be more worried about gronk showing up one day and simply saying: 'you know what guys? you need to pay me more' .... for gronks part, the smart move would be to do that BEFORE the franchise tag shows up, or he might be playing on the tag for 3 years in a row. on one hand, you have the CBA rules and the leverage the team has to prevent a player from becoming a free agent. on the other, you have the deion branch way of ultimately shooting your way out of town, but that really only works while you are still under your rookie contract.

the players don't owe the teams anything beyond the signed contract and vice-versa. both sides need to treat it like a business. for gronks part, it would be smart business to secure guarantees sooner rather than later, and also time it so that he can get his next big deal at 26-28 years old.

I disagree with him because he was never in welker's position, but he's far from an idiot.......he's been a candid guy since he was drafted and is actually quite intelligent

in fact, I like the idea that the pats are still 'his team' and wants what's best for the team

It's very possible that McGinest is just delivering a message for someone, much like the one Tedy sent Ocho last fall about learning the playbook. It is difficult to believe Willie would go this far out on a limb on his own.

Yeah, according to Wes he hasn't heard a word from the team since they placed the tag on him in March. But then who is to say that isn't normal since Andre Carter, whom most here believe the team would want back after letting Anderson walk and who is on record as wanting to come back just let slip that he hasn't heard a word from the team since they thanked him for his 2011 contributions...
