1. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots

Come on. Is this really a surprise? Let's see ... three Super Bowl rings, five Super Bowl appearances and nine playoff appearances in the past 11 seasons. Don't forget three more Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator, including two rings with the Giants. Simply put: the most accomplished head coach of our time.

I am surprised Andy Reid is at 6 ( a bit too good in my opinion) Kubiak (who is at 16) should've been ranked better than 16........

NFL Head Coach Power Rankings | NFL.com

Placing a member of the New England Patriots at the top of any ranking will surely result in the desired number of clicks from rival fans that will repeat all the same old comments that have already been written for the last five years.

Any rankings beyond that are superfluous; the site will have already generated the traffic they intended to acquire.

Initially I thought Rex Ryan and Fisher were rated too high, but after some more scrolling, wasn't so sure. There are a few really good coaches, but the quality quckly drops dramatically. We are so lucky to have such a great coach for our team.

Wait. Weren't they all anointing Sean Payton #1 a year or so ago?

Shanihan at 16. Are these based on last year or careers??

Shanahan, Swartz and the unmentionable un-Coach of the New Orleans Saints belong in the top fifteen.

Wrecks Ryan does not, and especially Norv Turner does not either...

We as Pats fans despise him, but he still carries some rep with his 2 afcc games in a row with a rookie QB.

Any fan of another team who says they wouldn't want BB coaching her/his team is outright lying. Case closed, take it to the bank, we're locked and loaded.

four 14+ win seasons......five 13+ win season.

what is that stat about 27 wins or 28 wins in back to back season - being done 6 time in history and three of them are belichick/brady?

That back to back Championship game thing is something the Jets have bragged about so much that people now assume it is some type of great accomplishment.

Ryan has 3 years.
One he made the playoffs as a wc
One he backed in to the playoffs only because 2 opponents benched starters
One he missed the playoffs and ended the season with the most dysfunctional team in recent memory

The one word abbreviation for that is Average.

Sorry, but unless those rookies were two different guys, that's not possible. Keep in mind that the Jets haven't been to (let alone won) a SB since we landed a man on the moon.

Interesting list. The Super Bowl should be the Mason-Dixon line. If you won one you are 1st tier, 2nd tier is getting there. Third tier is everybody else except for douche-bags who are enthusiastic but done nothing - back of the line with Pete Carroll and Rex Ryan.

Shanahan should be in the top five with Belichick, Tomlin, Coughlin, and Mike McCarthy.

Marvin "The Warden" Lewis should be in the bottom five for being a loser who can't draft, can't coach and can't control a locker room.

Both Harbaughs and Rex Ryan can't shine the shoes of guys like John Fox who has proven he can really coach with the hand dealt him. My God. Rex Ryan is regressing - top ten?!? Next year he goes for his 4th guaranteed Super Bowl - 4th in the AFC East is more accurate. Dork.

Sadly I didn't even know who some of those guys at the bottom are. Who is Mike Philbin anyway? Wasn't he one of the aliens in Men In Black II?

IMHO Coughlin should be #1.

2 Super Bowls in the last 4 years and utterly dominates BB. 'Nuff said.

If it's based off of the most recent history I might agree, if its based off of careers nobody coaching in the NFL today holds a candle to what BB has done in NE alone, add in his work as a DC for Parcells and he's in a very select group of coaches.

i think shanahan at 16 is preposterous

Shanahan spent 15 years as Denver head coach--he went to the playoffs 7 times and won the Superbowl twice.

By contrast Mike MdCarthy has only coached about 5 years, has one ring, and for that is ranked the NO. 3 best coach.

Shanahan has to be in the top ten of active coaches. No way is no. 16 out of 32 active coaches.

Belichick 175-97 .643 reg season 18-7 playoffs 5 SBs 3 Wins 10 PO berths
Coughlin 142-114 .555 reg seas 12-7 playoffs 2 Sbs 2 Wins 9 PO berths
-It should also be noted that since 1999 Coughlin has only won playoff games in 2 of those 11 seasons(11 seasons coached). and did not reach the playoffs in more than half of those season (6 of 11)
'nuff said was the right comment, you just picked the wrong guy
