Tebow is a green bean!!!

Agreed, although this would have been one of the few places he could go and not cause a stir. GB being another. Nobody would put up billboards to replace Brady or Rodgers with him. Not like he'd really have a spot with the Pats, so I'm happy that media circus won't be heading our way.

NY is probably the worst place for him to go. He either needed to go to a team that would put him as a starting QB, or guaranteed bench / role player. To put him on a team with an already shaky QB is very dumb on the Jets part.

Either make Sanchez your guy or get rid of him. How can a QB feel comfortable when he has to look over his shoulder at his own team, let alone the opposition?

I think we just lost the solution to our Free Safety problem...

Adam Schefter is now saying there may be a problem with the trade.

(2) If the Tebow trade to Jets falls apart, St. Louis could wind up getting back into play. Sides sorting through details.

Mark Sanchez has just got to be in hell over this.

If i am not mistaken the JESTS have the worst right and left handed "so called" QBs in the NFL

Both their QBs have been to and won playoff games. There are a lot worse than them in the NFL

I've been laughing all afternoon. Whether this deal goes down or not, this might be my favorite offseason since '07.

Probably the worst place he could go from a QB developmental aspect and from a personality fit aspect. The locker room is dysfunctional, a young QB that struggled last year but was signed to a new extension, I don't see this working out well. I like Tebow, but to see him go to the Jets amazes me, I think he will be off the team either cut or re-traded by the end of the season.

The only sane thing to do is to trade him. So expect him to be there another five years.

Maybe they could retire his jersey while he's wearing it.

The jets won the bidding against the rams. The jets like the wildcat, so this makes some sense. HOWEVER, this will be a circus. Also, Tebow will need to wear earmuffs whenever the coach is speaking to the team.

McDaniels taking the HC job in Denver in 2009 makes a lot of sense now. This has been our plan all along to further destroy the Jersey Jets. Kudos to BB and JMD for this well thought out plan.

We're playing chess, they're playing checkers!

Brilliant move!

PFT is reporting that there may be a snag in this deal..

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos and the Jets have encountered a hangup in the language in Tebow’s contract that could nullify the trade. Schefter cites a Broncos source as saying the hangup could keep the trade from happening.

The contractual issue apparently arises from a clause in Tebow’s contract that could require the Jets to pay up to $5 million to the Broncos. The Jets may refuse to do that.

The NFLN commentators say the only other option will be for the Broncos to keep Tebow, because the contractual "snag" supposedly would apply to ANY trade deal, not just the Green Beans. So expect the trade to still go through with Jersey once that gets cleared up.

If the deal does fall through, the Jets look even worse. It just reaffirms the notion that they had no clue what they were doing when they traded for him in the first place. And if they do pay the $5 million, then that's even more hilarious. Either way, they lose!!!

Normally teams aren't allowed to enter into cash swaps or subsidies to make trades in the NFL. However this would be different if it is recapture language in Tebow's deal although even that wouldn't make sense unless he forced the trade...

Per Pat Kirwin:

Pat Kirwan ? @PatKirwanCBS

the Tebow issue is the salary advance for yrs 2012.13,14.it totals 5 million..1.424, 1.691, 1.92

AFAIK, teams cannot change contracts w/o the consent of the player.

And to address what someone posted above (too lazy to find it ): the new CBA prohibits renegotiating rookie contracts until after the third season. It is not retroactive, however; the old CBA required two years, which Tebow now has.

My first reaction to hearing this when I was at work was "April Fools Day is next week homey," but this is the gift that keeps giving. Sanchez will melt down first the the Meadowlands starts chanting Tebow when he has a 4 pick game. Getting the popcorn ready now lol.

So, I'm not a big legalese guy: Can Tebow essentially veto this trade?

From what I read a few days ago Tebow had already hit incentives in his rookie contract (Broncos make the playoffs; QB for at least 50% of the snaps), which doubled his base salaries in 2013 and 2014. As Mo pointed out above, NFL teams can't absorb portions of a contract in order to make a trade the way they can in other sports like baseball. This is actually a good thing because otherwise the cash-rich teams like the Redskins or Cowboys would have a decided advantage over small market clubs; the even playing field is part of what makes the NFL such an appealing product in comparison to other sports.
