Would you be in favor of adding Tebow to the Pats

Looks like Jags are going after Tebow pretty strongly right now (and per NFL net other teams are inquiring about Tebow...so don't think we have to concern ourselves with him any longer. Realistically, either jax or even Miami is good fit for him....

Let's not forget the likes of the lovely and talented Tom Hodson (career 1-11 record) or Scott "8 seasons, 7 starts" Zolak.

c'mon Deus...you're making me ill...I hate revisiting ground I've already puked on

Jax is probably his best chance to start at QB.

Not ones who were starters. And who were hyped beyond all reason.

Curtis Painter comes to mind--does he count as a starter?

Given your post, you must be in your early teens. I'd suggest to you that you should watch more than just your favorite team's games if you want to learn about the league and the players in it.

As someone who supported the team sitting on ice cold aluminum benches at Sullivan Stadium watching Hugh Millen, Tommy Hodson and Scott Secules play QB I can promise you that we would have loved to watched Tebow give them a chance of winning more than one or two games during those seasons.

I was being serious, not snarky. I think Tebow did rank below Painter.

...Just checked: per nfl.com, in 2011, Tebow was the 27th ranked QB and Painter was 32nd.

Man, I hope the trade to the Jets goes through. Sanchez was 23rd. Ryan is a football genius. Everyone knows the way to improve at the QB position is get someone four slots below your starter. Jets 2012: From "Garbage" to "Garbage Minus Four".

He'll at least put fannies in the seats since they have an attendance problem, It'll be interesting to see what Denvers asks for him, no way they're getting their first rounder back for him.

It was mentioned at one point yesterday, but seems to have been forgotten now: Tebow's contract.

It's interesting that in previous discussions of most other players that would hypothetically be added to the Pats roster (Mario Williams, Mike Wallace, Cortland Finnegan, etc.) the cost (i.e., draft pick and/or cap space that would be given up to acquire said player) is an integral part of those discussions; for whatever reason it is (conveniently?) omitted from most debates on whether or not adding Tim Tebow is a good idea.

From what I have read Tebow has hit some incentives that push his 2013 salary to over $6 million and his 2014 salary to over $7 million. I just don't see a restructure that would be acceptable to Tebow (as opposed to becoming a free agent) and at the same time be worthwhile (good value) to the team - and that's before also factoring in whatever draft pick (or player) you are trading away to acquire his rights.

Yeah... I realized after the fact that that was the point ausbacker was trying to make...

So knowing we're dealing in hypotheticals, the question of which roster spot Tebow is going to take seems to be giving people the biggest problem.

I look at it differently... Let's assume that there's no problem finding a spot for him on the 53 man roster. We all know that guys from 45-53 aren't even going to suit up. So these guys are in the "too good for practice squad, not good enough for game day"

Tebow, the athlete, should have no problem making that cut.

Making the cut for the game day roster is another matter.

But seeing as the NFL changed the emergency QB rule to allow them to play any time during the game, and allows 46 to suit up (if one is the emergency qb)

Is it really all that important to have Mallet dressed for game day? Couldn't Tebow be the 46th man that we're not currently utilizing? I guess the only question is whether the emergency QB can play along side Brady in a wildcat role or if Brady would need to sit out a play.

Brady sit out a play to bring Tebow in? Think about what you just wrote. That's ******* insane.

If Denver wants to get rid of him badly enough, they'll take the hit if there are no takers for him at full price. If I'm Tebow, I'm not going to make that easy for them.

I watched. Every game: three quarters of the most boring offensive football I have ever seen, with Tebow playing some sort of inelegant form of street ball so horrendous a real quarterback like John Elway could barely stand to watch, and then a fluke running TD in the fourth quarter. Grand total of points scored: 15. Electrifying!

I keep swearing I'm done with this debate, but I keep getting drawn back in.

Why is sitting even a future HOF QB for a few plays to diversify your offense "insane?"

What about obvious QB-sneak situations where Brady now says a quick prayer, locks his knee brace and throws his 35 year old body into the middle of a bunch of 350 pounders and we all hold our collective breath that some galoot doesn't land on his ankle or knee at a funny angle and end his career or season? Is it "insane" to think that it might be possible that Brady and the Pats would be better off if a guy ten years younger and a lot more mobile took those snaps and hits?

And, what's wrong with an offense that throws a few wrinkles at an opponent when it needs to move the chains or pick up a big chunk of yards? A guy in the backfield four or five plays a game who could take a hand off or even a direct snap or be a threat to take a pitchout and run an option or just plain be a decoy might not be all that bad.

Let's face it, it's been eight years now since the Pats offense made the first downs it had to make to win the last game of the season. It's not too far-fetched to say that the Belichick/Brady Patriots are just two or three First Downs away from six Lombardi's (06, 07, 11). So, why is it "insane" to suggest that there might be another way of going about things as Brady comes to the end of his career? "Plan A" has come close but hasn't closed the deal in a long time.

And, what's "insane" about thinking that maybe the Pats could prolong Brady's career at a high level by another season by taking some of the heat off him over the next two years?

I'm not arguing that they should bring Tebow in. In fact, this debate is actually moot because it's virtually certain that Jacksonville or someone else will give Elway a lot more for Tim than the Pats would, but why is it "insane" to talk about it as an option?

I'm geting a flashback to 2001 when the Bledsoe Krishnas lamented the way in which TFB was winning games. Long passes forced into coverage even with picks galore were more important than winning games. Style over substance. Still Uber Alles!

Because Tom Brady is the surest passer in the NFL right now. Because we have just picked up a slew of talented receivers. Because we have a plentiful backfield. Because we have two of the best tight ends in the league. Because we have Hoyer and Mallett. Because Tebow is not a great passer. Because we don't need him.
But most importantly, Because Tebow is not a great passer. He is nobody's answer at QB, unless you want to talk about the 2008 Dolphins.

Do you mean cut him? I would imagine that may be a PR nightmare Denver doesn't want to touch right now if they were to do that. I think they might be better off waiting till next year when Tebow's cap hit becomes much bigger; at that point they would be hoping that Manning would have played well enough that their fans would be okay with letting Tebow go.

Legitimate question. Let's say the Broncos offer Tebow and a pick for Mallett. Which pick of theirs would it take for you to accept that? And let's assume Tebow redoes his contract so he's not making $6 and $7 million in 2013 and 2014, just normal backup backup pay, but perhaps on a longer contract.

Tebow would be an excellent choice for the Jets. His ability, generally, to avoid the turnovers that Sanchez is so willing to make, would improve that team immensely, because the defense wouldn't be consistently put in bad positions. The Jets would need to get a better slot receiver, though.

I hate fantasy but I'll play this one

First round pick yes; maybe a 2nd if they keep Tebow

Like Tebow as a QB for some other team

I don't think Tebow has much chance to end up with the pats. However, I am big fan of his and hope he turns into a very QB. Denver may regret the day they traded him for an aging QB who hasn't played a down in over a year. Even if Peyton is healthy it is going to take him a long time to get comfortable in the pocket.
