Would you be in favor of adding Tebow to the Pats

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! guys, please STOP the madness. Until the day someone can rationally explain what function Tim Tebow could play in this offense, there should be no Tim Tebow talk.

Where the F*CK would he play?????? Under what circumstance are you a better team with Tebow under C over Tom Brady. Is he worth a multi million dollar salary and a draft pick to play the non existent FB position the Pats "love" so much Do you take Gronk or Hernandez out so he can play TE?????? Yeah, that make sense - Well, I guess that leaves having him come in as a back up QB so you can install and practice a completely unique offense just for your back up QB. Now you're on a roll, brother. BB LOVES him his 46% completion rate passers

Make me a case that he can be a LB or SS and I'm all for it, but cut the offensive crap. Breer is FOS, the Pats would be exactly the WRONG place for Tebow. If he wants to go to an offense he'll have a chance at, let him go to Carolina and back up Newton. He's going to get hurt soon, anyway.

Ken. You must have missed the post, and I am not joking, where the poster had Brady split wide receiving passes from Tebow. Personally I think someone should have to give up football for life, no parole for such suggestions, but that's just me.

You'd rather have Sanchez and you're asking what's wrong with OTHER people? :bricks:

The gap between Brady and Sanchez is smaller than the gap between Tebow and Sanchez.

...
... But when you get the people attacking what he did last year as if he did nothing and his team just magically turned on some switch that had been there for years, you know you're wasting your time because those people are coming from a place of emotional prejudice, and aren't being honest in their evaluations as a result. It's why this thread is going strong after more than 400 posts about a player who'd be nothing but a backup or gimmick player if he did come to New England.

Well said. I have to admit that I'm not a disciple of the Tebow, but I've staked out a contrarian view here simply because (a) I think the pro-Tebow arguments have merit and deserve to be voiced and (b) the knee-jerk prejudice against Tebow kind of ticked me off.

Tim Tebow shouldn't have any trade value until he comes out and says he is willing to learn another position in the NFL. But he won't do that because he loves the platform that trying to be a QB brings.

Tebow instead of Sanchez! Now that I like. Of course, the only reason the Jets are looking at him is because they read the rumors that the Pats are looking at him.

Now THAT would be PERFECT. Two guaranteed, record-setting wins per season.

lol

Maybe I'm just a hater, but Tebow is the worst quarterback I've ever watched.

There's really no maybe about it. You're a Patriots fan. You've seen plenty of QBs who were far worse than Tebow.

I don't know how long you've been following the Pats, but I take it you missed the Marc Wilson and Hugh Millen era. 9--39 over three glorious seasons. :bricks:

Yeah but I'm a new/young fan

I hopped aboard the wagon when Brady took control.

Let's not forget the likes of the lovely and talented Tom Hodson (career 1-11 record) or Scott "8 seasons, 7 starts" Zolak.

Ok, just first round picks post 2001 and up to Tebow's year (too soon to be fair on those taken after that, IMO):

David Carr
Joey Harrington
Patrick Ramsey
Carson Palmer
Byron Leftwich
Kyle Boller
Rex Grossman
Eli Manning
Phillip Rivers
Ben Roethlisberger
J.P. Losman
Alex Smith
Aaron Rodgers
Jason Campbell
Vince Young
Matt Leinhart
Jay Cutler
JaMarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Matt Ryan
Joe Flacco
Matt Stafford
Mark Sanchez
Josh Freeman
Sam Bradford

Plenty there that I'd take Tebow over, and that's just the first rounders.

50% of the people that took that poll actually have some knowledge of football and the other 50% are on drugs!

My guess would be that the 50% expressing some interest in Tebow are not looking at him as a back up QB - but in some other capacity, having seem him frequently get by defenders and pick up first downs on the run.

Those comparing him to Sanchez probably look at him only as a QB and may not be enamoured with using players in other capacities, be it Aaron Hernandez as a RB, LBs at TEs, WRs as DBs etc

Belichick, however, is, and in fact had enough interest in Tebow in prior to the draft to meet with him... So you probably have to count him as the 50% on drugs...

All that being said, one assumes the Jets really ARE interested in Tebow as a QB making this yet another bizarre move by them to crush any semblance of confidence Sanchez has. Neither I nor any Patsfans are advocating for Tebow as our QB as we've seen the Patriots handle him easily against Denver and I have no doubt we'd have the same success if he's with the Jets.

There no longer is an emergency QB designation as far as game day rosters go.

The NFL did away with that, and instead simply made game day rosters a total of 46 players (rather than 45 plus an emergency QB). Teams can dress as many or as few quarterbacks as they desire, and all the old rules about a quarterback not being able to return to the game, or not appear until the 4th quarter are done away with. A team could have two or even three quarterbacks on the field at one time if they so desire.

Correct... which actually gives the Pats some extra flexibility, and a justification to use someone like Tebow in the 46th spot while retaining some insurance at QB if needed (hopefully NOT needed!) without sacrificing anyone from the other 45 game day roster positions.

Interestingly it was pointed out that the rule change actually works in FAVOR of those teams who might have a QB with an ability to run.

NFL drops third quarterback rule, 46 active players on game day | ProFootballTalk

In 2011, the lack of a third-quarterback designation could be helpful for teams with third-string quarterbacks who are running threats: Now the third-stringer could be inserted as a wildcat quarterback for a play or two and then be replaced by the starter.

I would take Tebow over Jamarcus Russell.

That's it

But you proved me wrong. There has been a worse player than Tebow.

Not ones who were starters. And who were hyped beyond all reason.

Curtis Painter comes to mind--does he count as a starter?

As someone who supported the team sitting on ice cold aluminum benches at Sullivan Stadium watching Hugh Millen, Tommy Hodson and Scott Secules play QB I can promise you that we would have loved to watched Tebow give them a chance of winning more than one or two games during those seasons.
