You are limited in the number of players that you can give that type of money to. Is Garcon really the player you want to give that money to? Is Garcon the player you want to sign when it will directly interfere with your ability to sign Welker? After all, you aren't going to have two players making that type of money at the WR position.
Personally, I don't think Garcon is all that special, nevermind someone making $8/year. I was shocked to see him sign the kind of contract. To me, it is a sign of a desperate team. It would be the height of stupidity for the Patriots, who are not a desperate team, to pay desperation prices for these types of players.
I think Garcon is an emerging stud and worth that money.
with the 49ers visiting with Manningham/eddie royal I wonder how serious their interest in Lloyd is?
if schefter article is right and there has been limited interest from other teams around the league, it only makes sense that he would try and at least leverage with the pats and make it look like there is interest from other teams...
I'm inclined to agree with him. The guy made plays all over the place last year with one of the worst QBs in the NFL. He made plays all over us, for that matter.:bricks:
Not me personally.
And I don't have specific examples.
But you see someone make a comment, or complaint, and it's "omg go play madden more" or "this isn't fantasy football moron"
That isn't at all what I said. I said lack of talent was not the reason we lost the Superbowls against the Giants, and I stand by that assertion.
Big changes to a Super Bowl-caliber roster?
Well, good luck with that.

(SARCASM) OMG WE ARE DOOMED!!! WE'VE ONLY SIGNED SPECIAL TEAMERS AND ITS BEEN ALMOST 24 HOURS OF THE START OF FREE AGENCY. WE WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, WE WILL LOSE THE DIVISION AND WE WILL HAVE THE 2ND PICK IN THE 2013 DRAFT. THE PATRIOTS ARE DONE. WE JUST SUCK!!!
There is a lot of free agents available and we have a lot of firepower for the draft. LETS GO!!

Even the most pessimistic fans expect a top seed, that is the thing, nobody is saying we suck, just that we are one step away and wasting Brady's career holding back from that step.
Those things happen when idiot fans use Madden to claim that Welker is just a jag who limits the offense, or try to use their "expertise" as fantasy GM's to argue that he is only worth Leigh Bodden money. When you say stupid sh.t it tends to come back at you, and that is what you are using to claim the idiot haters are being treated unfairly.
So the Pats are wasting Brady's career for not overpaying an average WR like Pierre Garcon top WR money? The fact of the matter is that none of the playoff teams from last year have been signing big free agents in the last 26 hours. And if you look through history you will see many of the big time free agents signed in the first day or two end up disapointing or even busting out.
Look at last year, I don't think there was a single high priced free agent other than Jason Babin who got more sacks than either Mark Anderson or Andre Carter and both were value free agents.

How come no one ever mentions how average, or even garbage Ocho and Branch are at this point? So a Garcon, Wallace, Lloyd isn't a prime Rice but they still can play and the two guys we have can't. I can see this logic after the 07 loss but its obvious we have one WR and he is way too short to go deep.
If you look at history you see Pats can't win with bums off the street, focusing on Philly or other teams short comings doesn't change that. No other franchise has had a Tom Brady/BB, so why should we avoid talent because another team failed? You realize there is always a worse scenario, if we go 0-16 I could say "well x city doesn't even have an NFL team, at least we do", doesn't make it acceptable.
