i love the talk of packaging our 2 first round picks and getting up to around 10 or 11.

So lets play a little game... (we somehow manage to trade with buffalo for their 10th pick) who do you want us to take? Lets pick a few each

#1 Donatri Poe, DT, Memphis/ Brockers, DT, LSU
#2 Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
#3 Melvin Ingram/Courtney Upshaw OLB

nobody.

you use #31 on wallace

While I would never make that trade, if we had the #11 pick I would happily take Upshaw (although I know many wouldnt). Claiborne and Blackmon would be off the board and I have Upshaw rated higher than any of the other DL in this draft. I'm guessing we will see a lot of Brockers, Cox and Poe picks here, and maybe 1 or 2 Wolfe and Bequette picks (sorry I had to)

Not sure there's a sure fire defensive player in this draft worth two firsts. I'd have done it for Suh or Patrick Peterson. Not even Claiborne this year.

When you trade up and take that much risk you really need to grab a no brainer player that is going to solidify a spot on your roster for the next 5+ years. To me, grabbing a WR or DE/DT is such a high bust move that moving up for them is crazy. Factoring in everything I just said, if we traded up to #10 the only player we should reasonably take is Luke Kuechly.

Not worth it, but in the fictional world I'd take Mark Barron

With Light and Koppen iffy

Unfortunately we will be taking Cordy Glen

Protecting our greatest asset

If he's there Trent Richardson. I want a defensive player if I'm trading up but IMO Trent is the best prospect in the draft.

Mike Brockers, baby!! :rocker:

No way in HELL I'd make that trade, of course...But I figured I'd play along!!

Personally at this point I would rather keep the two picks (or even though it's considered blasphemy, trade down or trade out to next year with one of those picks). However, here's my thoughts on each of those mentioned.

  • Poe - an incredible athlete and very intriguing; I'd be okay with this move.
  • Upshaw - a guy I like, but I don't know if it's worth it to trade up that high for him. Due to the position he plays I'd probably be might be more on board with trading up for Upshaw than Poe.
  • Kirkpatrick - similar to above; maybe trade up to 10, then back to about 15 and get another pick back to draft him there.
  • Brockers, Ingram - I would think either one if not both will be available at #27; I don't see the value in giving up so much to trade up for them. For me definitely Brockers over Ingram.

If Brockers is actually still there at #27, I will absolutely LOSE it!!

Whilst I wouldn't use both firsts to do it, I would ABSOLUTELY use 27 + 63 to trade up and grab Mark Barron. Outside of the top 10, no other player will make as immediate an impact for the Patriots as him in the short term and he is absolutely good enough to warrant the picks over the course of his career.

And, with the safety market continuing to dry up (Thomas Decoud has just reached an agreement with the Falcons), I worry that we will have to trade up for him.

From what I can see now the "sweet spot" in this draft is from about #15 to #22. I really don't like us being at #27 & #31, don't see anything there that can't be had in round 2.

I would not go up to #10 unless there was a sure fired player that the Patriots had rated as a "must get" Maybe go up as much as 10 spots and get some picks for later in the draft.

Last I saw, Pat Kirwin actually has Brockers slipping out of the first round of the draft based on his combine.

no way would I move up to 10 for anyone other than Blackmon.

I agree 100% with this thinking.

In my mind BB is a master of letting the draft come to him. But unless something unexpected happens, there will not be an athlete on the board at #27 with a first round grade and BB is unlikely to find a trade prospect.

Therefore a trade up makes sense, but find it very hard to justify paying 2 first rounders for any player in this draft not named Luck.

PS: I continue to hear that Richardson is dropping out of the top ten. In my mind he is a three down player and could really add a ton to our offense, especailly if Green Ellis can't be resigned. Not saying he is worth 2 first rounders, but I could be tempted.

I don't think there should be any connection made between TR and BJGE. The two are in a very different class. You are right about TR though. Three down player that helps more than just in the run game.

We have two sophomore RBs. Maybe we can grab a cheap vet in FA.

Didn't stop us getting McCourty after taking Butler and Wheatley the two previous years. and then following that up with Dowling.
