I consider top 5 picks who are mediocre players busts like Dorsey and Jackson. Especially, when you factor in the salaries they have received.

Dorsey
Oher
Jones
McFadden

clearly not busts

For several others, the jury is still out

MAJOR LOL @ YOUR LIST.

Dorsey is a 3-4 DE. What do you want him to do? Post 16 sacks a year? DMac was only leading the league in rushing by a huge margin before he got IRed last year.

omgomgomog you're such a bad fan of football.

edit: Also Kareem Jackson and Robert Ayers made huge strides this year.

Talk to me about Tebow when they go 5-11 this year. McFadden is always hurt and was over-drafted. Top 10 picks should be better than just starting players like Andre Smith, Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey.

If you think Dorsey and Jackson are busts then Seymour and Warren are busts. Crennel uses his DE a certain way. They won't show up on stat sheets but you better believe the players around them will be able to make plays because of them (think Tamba Hali). Notice neither Dorsey or Tyson Jackson have been asked to restructure their fat contracts.

I can't quite share the Poe love when the coaches in his own weak football conference didn't bother to put him on the all-conference team.

Screams workout warrior / game day bust to me

I'm with you on Poe. Insane athleticism but he's lacking the fundamentals. Put him with a great DLine coach and he would go far. He falls down and loses sight of the ball a lot because he plays with his head down. That majorly needs to be corrected.

I also don't get the Nick Perry love from Pats fans. When I look at his combine stats he's everything I don't want in an OLB in our system.

Did you just compare Dorsey and Jackson to Seymour and Ty Warren? Oh my!! Big Sey is going to the Hall of Fame. The LSU boys were top 5 picks. You have to be better than average.

Do you consider Maroney a bust? I do. In four years he had 2430 yards and 21 td's with us. McFadden had 2627 and 16 td's in his first 4. 657 YARDS and 4 TD's per season for the 4th overall pick. Not a bust? Please don't use injuries as an excuse because his durability was questioned coming out.

Do you consider Maroney a bust?

Depends on the context

Looking at Maroney as a blanket bust just makes you look like someone who doesn't put any real thought into the issue. Maroney was clearly not a bust when healthy in his first couple of seasons.

Injuries are an excuse, though, whether you like it or not. Furthermore, McFadden's not done.

Maroney's career status: Over
McFadden's career status: Just getting started

McFadden already has had 1 year that was better than any Maroney had (1,157 yards with 7 TD and 507 receiving with 3 TD). Maroney also had 2 seasons where he didn't even get 100 yards on the season.

Depending on how McFadden does, maybe he turns it around. I wouldn't call him a "bust" but I'd call him a guy who could've been special but never met expectations.

Maroney I would call a bust because he was a 1st rounder who basically played 3 seasons and only went over 800 yards rushing in one of them. Also it's not like Maroney was a receiving threat whereas McFadden has shown that he can at least catch the ball.

This was a good thread until it was Hijacked

Like:
Brockers
McClellin
Branch
Cam Johnson

Stay away:
Mercilus
Irvin
Poe
Ingram

Bequette is clearly the man. Irvin posted better numbers at the 3-cone and short-shuttle, but Bequette has the size advantage. Legit 6'5'' and has 30 pounds over Irvin.

Also Wolfe. Posted respectable numbers at the combine, and combined with his on field production, he would be a great pick for the Pats.

During what round would you place them at their proper value, and which OLB/DEs and DE/DTs would you draft ahead of Bequette & Wolfe respectively?

To me I would say Andre Branch. He just seems like the safest pick to me. Good combine, good resume and film to go along with being a team leader. He doesn't bust out and say I'm going to destroy you but he does seem like someone who can play within the system of the Patriots and make big plays when his number is called upon.

Again. Donte Paige Moss seems like a foul dude by reading his twitter. And Burfict blaming his coaches for his issues over the weekend combined with a ****ty combine doesn't speak well for him either. I don't draft either of these guys in any round. Including undrafted free agent.

Love: Michael Brockers, Dontari Poe, Fletcher Cox- DT/Base End 34, Mark Barron SS, Andre Branch DE/OLB, Vinny Curry OLB, Dont'a Hightower OLB/ILB/DE 43, Janoris Jenkins CB-- (1st) George Lloka FS (2nd), Kendell Reyes DT (2nd), Chandler Jones OLB/DE 43 (2nd), Billy Winn DT/DE 34 (2nd), Jayron Hosley CB (2nd), Sean Spence OLB/Rover/SS (2-3), Harrison Smith SS (3rd), Ryan Steed CB (3rd), Josh Chapman DT (3-4), Mike Martin DT (3-4), Jake Bequette DE (4th), Casey Hayward CB (5th)

No interest: Nick Perry DE, Whitney Mercilus DE/OLB, Brandon Thompson DT, Alameda Ta'amu DT/NT.

No strong opinion on the rest of the class. I like most of the CB's after the 1st round. I even think Cliff Harris (4-5th) and Donnie Fletcher (5-6) can be starters in the league.

Love: Brockers
Avoid: Hightower... totally over-drafted

And by the way, Luke Kuechly is going to be a star, too bad not for us.

Do want:

Jake Bequette
Bruce Irvin
Mike Martin
Kendall Reyes

Do not want:

Coples
Mercilus
Crick

Want: Nick Perry

Kuechly is going to get draft by the Eagles and is going to make all the difference in the world for them.

Disagree on Hightower being over-drafted. I think he could play all 4 LB spots in our defense and Bill loves that type of flexibility. His running a 4.62 which is faster than expected is going to put him in the first round for sure.

Brockers won't be around at 27.

For players who could fall to us I'd like to see Cox and Hightower.

I would have no problems with Cox and Hightower in the 1st round. Cox is 4-time SEC DL player of the week and Hightower has versatility and more importantly is an intimidating hitter. The Pats could become the best young LB group in the league.

Now is the time to straighten out any problems on defense. The Pats have 10 picks in the top 4 rounds in 2012 & 2013 and 8 in the top 3 rounds. They can get top notch DL, OLB, CB and safeties but still have enough picks left for OL and WR's in the next 2 years!!
