Should the superbowl be moved to Saturday?

Super Bowl Sunday is a de facto national holiday. I can't see why the NFL would even consider moving it, when so many people plan parties and things around the game, regardless of who's playing.

It would feel wrong to have it on a saturday. Maybe I've just got used to football on sunday's over the years. I typically work on saturdays and while my boss is fantastic at giving me Pats games off, there's always a chance something big enough gets booked at work (I work at a convention centre) where I couldn't be off.

I'd prefer Saturday personally because of the party late in to the night of the superbowl.

This said, an earlier time on Sunday would be good.

As would maybe the bosses and clients of the world giving everyone a little slack on Monday morning.

Sunday evening SUX!!! I voted moving it to Saturday cause I havta be at work by 4:00 AM EST Monday morning...I could take the day off, but I'd just be screwing the other people at work!

I am one who voted for Saturday, from the heart, before reading any posts. Having read the defense for Sunday however, I changed my mind somewhat. I agree with you that we keep it on Sunday but at a much more "normal" earlier hour for a Sunday football game. Even the traditional late Sunday start of 4:00 PM EST would do it for me.

The Super Bowl ends at roughly 10:00 Sunday night in the east (obviously earlier than that in other time zones). If you can't handle staying out until 10 at night without suffering at work tomorrow, then that's pretty sad.

As long as Goodell changes the playoffs system to stop allowing the Giants and other lucky or mediocre teams to make the Super Bowl and cause undeserved upsets I don't care when they play.

They can play on a monday and I'd be fine with it. Make it happen Goodell. One good thing you can do before you leave is round-robin playoffs or bust.

Yeah but I am sure quite a few people want to enjoy some food and alcohol to go along with the party. And it would be nice to be able to stay out late after the SB to celebrate after the game without having to set your alarm to 5 AM. Of course I could have and should have taken a vacation day this monday but I completely forgot.

If you're in New England, I think that regardless of the game's outcome, people will understand if you're a little "under the weather" on Monday. Personally, being on the west coast, I have a few more hours to work with, but I'm already planning around Monday being basically a lost day, productivity-wise.

well part of this whole problem is the late start time of 6:30 pm EST . . .

back in the day, in the first 10 or so SBs, it was started at 1 PM PST when it was played on the west coast, and 2 PM CST/EST when it was played on the east coast/central part of the country . . .

if we go back to those times, it will keep the Sunday traditionists happy and the "i gotta work on Saturday" crowd happy too, also the game will be over at around 7 pm EST . . . so one option would be to move the game to 4 pm EST, and thus a 1 PM PST start . . .

As for those who have to work on Saturday, I am not sure how many businesses are open past 6 pm on Saturday night . . if you have a 7 or 8 pm start anybody working on Saturday will be home in plenty of time to watch the game . . .

the problem arises is that people want it on Sunday, but want it late enough in the day so they can do thier thing/get ready/watch the 12 hours of pregame (i remember went the pregame went to a whoppying two hours and i thought that was way too much), but you can't have you cake and eat it too . . .

I think if you want to have a party and a national event, then have it on Saturday, as Sunday there are a lot fewer people that are working then on Monday . . .

I really don't worry to much about tradition, as football is a Sunday DAY sport to be played at 1 pm or 4 pm local time, once you moved the game to night time Sunday night, it is not different to me than if you moved it to Saturday night . . ., that is once you broke tradition . . .

i am self employed and always am able to get that Monday off (alho I have had to stop going the to the Beanpot), but it would not bother me if it was moved to Saturday . . .

i guess it comes down to, if people want to be working during the pregame, or working 4-6 hours after you went to bed after your were able to decompress from the game . . .
