No link, but on the Afternoon Blitz on Sirius NFL Radio today, co-host Jim Miller hinted that since former Arizona State head coach Dirk Koetter has recently signed on to be the OC for the Jags, Jax are currently leaders in the Plummer sweepstakes. He said this even though Koetter was actually at Boise State whenever Plummer was starring for the Sun Devils.

Viewing from an opponent's perspective, I'd rather the Jags keep their current QB's than get Plummer. He's too hot and cold, and I think the Jags just need decent play from the QB position in order to make the jump to the elite.

While Google searching for Plummer I found a link to rumblings that the Houston Texans (you know the team that BB wants to coach in a year) are also interested in Jake the Snake's services.

Is Jack Del Rio an idiot? Leftwich and especially Garrard are both better than Plummer, IMO. I personally think Denver dumping Plummer this year was not the best decision. While I think Cutler will be good long term, they would have had a better chance with Plummer this year I think.

I don't think either one has it. Leftwich showed nothing for three seasons. Gerrard has looked okay, but still a bit shaky. I'm not saying Plummer is a HOF QB but he has his moments where he can actually play like a good NFL QB. Like when he plays against us.

Here's a link to the Jags forum talking about Plummer rumors, BTW...

I agree, I am one of few people who has an ounce of respect for the guy. My problem with the Jags giving up on their two current guys though is the fact that Garrard, while he has had a bunch of starts, has never gotten a chance to prove himself as a QB. Everytime he plays, they call plays "not to lose." I think they should give him a chance to throw the ball a little bit before bringing in another shaky quarterback.

why would any team have any interest in jake plummer as anything other than a back-up?

to win a title in the nfl you need a qb who won't lose you games. jake is not that qb. employing him only prevents a team from finding that qb.

then again, i don't really understand shooting for 8-8 and going nowhere.

At this point, I think Jax would settle for a nice little run in the playoffs. They have issues with their fanbase (or lack thereof). Plummer would sell jerseys and a few more tickets, as well as improving the chance of them getting hot around December.

Poor Jacksonville, indeed. A would-be great team languishing in the burnt-out remains of an offense without a leader. Del Rio is good, though. Quarterback is tough to fill. So important, too.

color me an infidel: It would never happen, but I'd trade Jones-Drew for Cassell.

Sorry guys, I typed too fast without thinking. Disregard my ridiculous thought. Sorry 'bout that.
